Super great service. Delicious food.

I attempt to be extremely fair in my reviews because I know that it is tough out there and people can be very unfair, that said I read the reviews of Lucky Bean with my mouth wide open. We went there for lunch, it was empty except for a few cats which were inside and outside the restaurant, we love cats so no issue for us, our food was totally average, nothing noteworthy at all and we would definitely not be in a rush to return. If the reviews are genuine then we maybe experienced the place at a bad time but seriously I couldn't see anything in line with previous reviews.

When u arrive at the restaurant you are welcomed by almost all the staff that see you, if u smoke they are very accommodating. More than any other restaurant. The menu is afro fusion but with a contemporary feel to it and wow… the flavours are amazing. And it works not only does this restaurant has a jewel but I believe I will become one of the top in JHB.

Pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff and simply amazing food.

It was our first time going to Lucky Bean I chose it because of the Google rating. It lived up to the rating. The experience was great. What really stood out for me is how the waiters were so attentive. Not intrusive just attentive. It was charming it made me feel like a 'regular'. For those who are new to Jozi you must try Melville it has a bit of an Artsy vibe about it. Its like Camdon with grooming. LUCKY BEAN is must do for ambience, food, drinks and service.

Truly deserves it's high rating in the Eat out magazine. It has a lovely laid back atmosphere where you could easily while away the afternoon eating excellent food and drinking from the good selection of wine and craft beers and watching the fabulous Melville people go by. The pork belly is superb. It would be a good place to take overseas visitors who want to try traditional South African foods cooked with flair as the menu has a traveller's section. Excellent service too and really reasonably priced.

Traditional African Fare for a Fair Price I planned my visit to this SA well run joint. Senegalese Yassa Chicken, Ostrich Pattie and Umngqusho all hit home runs with me. The internet's hours aren't reliable and the ambience of the place isn't perfect with it being an indoor/outdoor venue, but the food does the talking.

Celebrated my daughters 21st tonight. The service was absolutely stunning. The food was divine. Thank you to Paul and his staff who were extremely accomodating and made this a special night for Prish.

For our first night in Melville/JNB, we were looking for a close restaurant and Lucky Bean has very good reviews on the Internet. So we decided to take a walk and give a try. At the end, we can say that the positive comments are well deserved.
In fact, the restaurant is intimate and nice, the staff is friendly and the service good as the food too.
I highly recommend to try the delicious springbok pie.

Somewhat of a melville institution. Very creative menu with African twist. Excellent cocktails.

I have had 2 starters there and both were excellent. Service is excellent. Very accommodating and helpful. I hope they get Almond Milk for their coffees. It's more of a night time venue and I would strongly recommend a Friday or Saturday night. Also nice because it's large and away from the main part of Melville. We prefer this! It's quite romantic.

Great place for trying out traditional African food, though limited options for vegetarians. The chocolate tart is amazing.

False advertisement. So online it says this place closes at 1130, however they pick and choose what time they close. And on tonight they chose to close at 10 PM because they were slow.

In all fairness Lucky Bean is not a bad venue but I just feel it's location does not compliment what it has to offer. It's pricy and somewhat upbeat… It feels more of a Greenside venue then Melville. Hence it's very quiet.

Simply put it was amazing. Food, service, and atmosphere were all on point.

Great place with lots of options. Very reasonably priced as well. Happy hour is from 4-7pm so would get 15% off their drink selection. Travelers tasting was a bit lackluster but their other starters and entrees are great!

Lovely restaurant in Melville. Nice interior and great service. We had the springbok pie and ostrich steak which, although part of their tourist menu, were excellent and highly recommended. Only a fraction more expensive than nearby places but it is a step up from them and worth it.

Great place at great value. Stayed many times and keep referring it to friends. Conway, is always welcoming and frequently looking after you personally at breakfast, which creates a nice social environment. Rooms are very comfortable and private, the best of the bunch is the pool house. If Conway is fully booked, which is frequent he will go out of his way to hook you up with another guest house nearby.
