This hotel is up on a mountain with few restaurants/places to visit nearby. If you do not have a car of your own there is a shuttle that brings you to Funchal and back with the latest time back to the hotel being 5:30pm. If are looking to stay out late walking around the city, I would recommend a hotel on the strip or renting a car. Would have liked if the pool/jacuzzi/gym was open later or 24 hours and would have liked if the pool table was included in the stay, instead it is 5€ an hour. Besides that, everything else is perfect. Staff were super friendly and helpful, the rooms are very clean and comfortable, and the breakfast buffet is delicious.

There was, as we were there, a rattlesnake cooling in the kitchen. Hope already fixed, this one was heard on the straight.

Those who do not like the beds castles: This hotel is really recommended. There is no negative point, only the sauna could be warmer. Everything else is really the finest. The bus (line 19) brings the guest, for 1, €85 pp, from Funjal to almost the front door. Only recommended.

A small, well-equipped, and comfortable design hotel perched on the hill half way to Monte, and around 4 km from downtown Funchal. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the place is immaculate. There's a swimming pool, spa, restaurant, and business center. Breakfast is good with a large variety on offer and plenty of fresh fruit. A shuttle takes you into town daily at 10 am, picking you up again at 5 pm. Although it looks deceptively close, Funchal city center is a little over an hour's trek downhill, should you decide to walk. If you have mobility problems, you should take the hotel shuttle or get a cab. Walking back is almost out of the question due to the steep climb. The street on which the hotel is located is also used for tobogganing. Watch out for the wicker sledges hurtling downhill at high speeds!

Nice small, quiet hotel over the city with very good cuisine and courteous service. Also the standard rooms could have been built a tad bigger.

Fantastic hotel, fantastic service, amazing food, great facilities with an amazing view over funchal. Celebrated my 50th birthday here and they went out of their way to make it even more special. All the staff were very friendly. Would highly recommend this small boutique style hotel.

Wonderful view to the harbour of Funchal. First quality hotel. Everything was perfect. Same quality in partner-hotel Funchal Design Hotel in the center.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to my worst enemy! Having booked the hotel in May! We arrived, along with another couple to be told that the computers had got to hot and as a result we no longer had a booking at this hotel but they had found a suitable alternative! Well that alternative wasn't even in Funchal, 30km up the road! We asked for a meeting with the manager who declined this! It has ruined all our our planned tours and the lack of customer service shown and bare faced lies by the receptionist was not acceptable! They boast a 9.2 rating I wouldn't even give them a 2.9

We were in the first week of November 2013 in Funchal on vacation and opted for this hotel, because it is located above Funchal and man a great survey about the city had.
At the beginning we were very friendly with a glass of wine. The staff is very friendly, hotel very clean and well kept. The location is very good to reach very quietly and with public transport.
Also free, the hotel offers guests a transport in the city (including repatriation).
I would visit this hotel again and again and can only recommend it everyone.
