We stopped here to stretch our legs and grab some coffee. It was off the main road, so the location seemed great…until I went inside.
You have to pay 5kr to use the washroom, unless you buy something. I ended up buying two coffees and a bag of cookies to use the restroom. The restroom was clean BUT there was no toilet paper or soap 🤢 what was I paying for?!
Once I got the coffees, there was no milk or lid (hello, we’re driving, a lid is the bare minimum no? )
The icing on the cake was the fact that once I opened the bag of 31kr cookies, and put a full one in my mouth, I saw that the cookies were expired since NOVEMBER 2022😭
Long story short, there’s better options…

It’s windy and raining. You've been driving along road 51, somewhat in the middle of nowhere, hungry for food and coffee. You pass this red house with ”Kafé” on it. Of course there are no customers sitting outside in this weather. You wonder if it's open at all. Park the car and attempt go in.
The door can be opened. The dining hall from the previous century is surreal. There are no customers in the room, no personnel. The lights are on though, some pastries are visible over the counter, so perhaps there is food available. There is a menu on display, in Norwegian. A radio station playing on the speakers. A pinball machine in the corner (not turned on). An opening leads to a dark room, an antiques shop part of the house. Some gold watches, possibly for sale, are on display at the food counter. A disco ball on the ceiling, two rotating fans.
Behold, there is a bell at the counter. The game requires you to ring the bell. The host appears from the back, a gentleman of past retirement age. He doesn’t speak English very well, but we establish that the place is indeed open, and there is food. We order something light — bread with egg, plus coffee — and the host disappears to the back to prepare the meal.
Soon enough, your breads with egg, layered with butter and garnished with cucumber and tomato slices, are ready on a tray, served on lovely white pottery plates with blue ornaments.
