Great food, fantastic atmosphere and very comfortable rooms. All facilitated by the wonderful staff who made everything run smoothly with unfailingly smiling faces. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. Make sure to stay more than one night!

Absolutely brilliant — views, staff, food, rooms — what’s not to love?

Loving it here at Zatori. Officially never want to go home. Tracey and Steve and all the staff are amazing and really welcoming. Couldn’t have asked for better. The view and gardens are absolutely stunning and the food is fantastic. 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Too many to mention! Great location for exploring the area. Beautiful views. Fabulous rooms with comfy beds. Tasty breakfast and the staff are wonderful, friendly & so helpful. Wish we could have stayed longer.

We stayed for 3 nights, even booking an extra night to stay in the bunk room after 2 x nights in the Queen Room. It is a spacious, tastefully decorated place, which has a mix of feeling like a quality, furnished home, providing a great, private kitchen for cooking meals if used to hostelling & a library area for chilling on the sofas, whilst providing a popular restaurant to the public. After travelling from Bali, Auckland, Roturero, Taupo, Picton, we got grounded here, with a spacious deck, to chill, sunbathe, play the communal guitar, do some washing & even make use of the massage room to practise a Balinese massage treatment, which we studied in Bali a couple of weeks previously. Tracey was very welcoming and accomodating & all the staff were like a well-oiled team machine, Steve giving tips of places to visit & how to carry the kayaks down to the estuary when the tide was right. We tried paddle-boarding for the 1st time one morning, then both kayaked another & also had a short evening cycle on the old French bikes, with amply cushioned saddles! A fantastic stay, which initially felt more expensive than we would normally spend, but the quality of Zatoria and her gifts were reflected in the costs & we would highly recommend staying here. Thank you to all involved. Oh and the 'death by chocolate' cake we shared on Valentine's day, nearly killed us!

What a place to stay. Tracey & her team offer a lovely relaxing experience. Our rooms were warm & very comfortable. The food was delightful & the views magnificent.

We were scheduled to fly from Karamea to Brown’s Hut on the morning of the 15th May to start biking the Heaphy Track, but due to impending bad weather, and the fact stock were in the paddock at Brown’s Hut, we had to travel late on the 14th with no idea where we would stay or how we would get to the start of the Heaphy.
Our pilot came to the rescue and said he had booked us into a nice place in Collingwood and they would arrange to shuttle us to the start of the Heaphy Track.
What a fantastic surprize when we pulled up at Zatori Retreat and were met by Beau the dog – The Zatori Retreat is just a magic place hidden away in Collingwood that offered 1st class accommodation and meals and a very generous host that nothing was a problem too.
Our room was exquisitely appointed and presented, and the meals were delightful. With my wife being vegetarian, there was no trouble in meeting her needs at short notice.
In the morning our host had been in contact with her neighbour who had generously offered to transport us the start of the Heaphy Track and all was in place, with us arriving at the same time as if we had flown in.
This was an unexpected adventure bought about by the bad weather, but we were on the winning end with special night of accommodation, meals and company.
We will return to Zatori Retreat, as it is now a special place for us, and I suspect for anyone else who looks to stay there.

I LOVE this place! Everyone NEEDS to stay here at least once in there life. It's recently renovated so everything is comfy and new. The view is stunning and there are free kayaks and a paddle board to use. Tracy the host is very accommodating and even picked us up from Takaka. We will be back for sure.

Couldn't have picked a more perfect location to have a dinner out in Golden Bay (plus celebrate our anniversary) Will be back for more meals, fantastic food and drink and you just can't beat that view looking over collingwood and farewell spit.

Excellent location facing the Farewell Spit. Delicious breakfast, somewhat pricey. Comfortable rooms, clean and tidy.

We enjoyed the wonderful views, fabulous breakfasts and kind and friendly host. This accommodation would be ideal for visitors to New Zealand, as the settling and scenery takes your breath away. Highly recommended.

A purely beautiful place to enjoy a glass of wine on the deck, one of the best views in Golden Bay. Tracey is a perfect host and the food is incredible!

Haven't stayed here but over the summer months they sometimes open it up for dinner or an evening drink — excellent views, particularly in the evening as the light fades. Great calm atmosphere with cool decor and a dog that plays fetch (although then makes me fetch the ball) — may be best to call in advance and see if they are open to the public. Dinner is also delicious and has a very communal feel.

Stayed in the flash backpackers. Was stunning. Lovely atmosphere, friendly & warm, clean, elegantly appointed and gorgeous views. Sunset and a glass of wine on the deck was a favourite way to end the day. Also loved pottering on the river on the SUPs.

This place is confusing in a good way. Way nicer than any hostel but still with the hostel vibe (and guests). The owner is lovely and very welcoming. The grounds are amazing with gorgeous views and even an outdoor bathtub. This is the best hostel experience you can have.

A wonderful place to stay and relax. We felt very welcome at Zatori. I very rarely write reviews, but this place is well worth a mention — and a second visit.

Me and my boyfriend just stayed at Zatori Retreat, Golden Bay, and had the best time! Tracey, the owner, has done amazing job turning an old hospital to a beautiful and relaxing destination to travelers with different budgets, as the accommodation options vary from Private Honeymoon Suite to 6 Bed Dorm rooms! All the facilities are brand new, well designed and comfortable. It was sooo relaxing to enjoy the warmth of the fireplace with a good drink after a run at beautiful nearby Minthorpe forest. It was also great to kayak and paddle board right in front of the Zatori. The food that Tracey made was delicious and focusing on local made and organic ingredients fresh from own garden and she had also made this amazing home-made muesli for us to enjoy for breakfast. Overall, we really enjoyed of the place, we received very friendly service and also a lot of useful tips arranging our travels around Golden Bay. We can definitely recommend the place for everyone and we are looking forward to going back there!
