Cozy, clean, friendly staff. Wwoofers do hard work! Stayed three months in winter.

People were nice but definitely got bed bugs bites here… didn’t realize until I came home and had a doctor look at them. Luckily none of them traveled with me across the world. It may be resolved by now but not sure. It’s a bit out of the way of things as well. Maybe next time I’ll stay closer to downtown. Wouldn’t recommend unfortunately.

Best hostel I have stayed in for a while. Great little touches such as hot water bottles and blankets. Twin room was great with comfy beds. Big kitchen area to prepare food with conplimentary breakfast and tea/coffee. Although a little warm the log burning stove was very cosy.

Lovely hostel located in lovely Nelson! such a cozy main area with heaps of space to play board games, read, or make new friends. after a tiring 3 day journey along Abel Tasman coastal Track — this was the perfect place to wind down, rest, shower, do some washing, and the best part was the chocolate pudding with ice cream at night cheers!

It’s clean, it’s cosy, the staff is so helpful and funny. Feels like home! Love it! Thank you for making my 2 month stay in Nelson perfect.

The atmosphere in this hostel is one of the best. Staff is very nice and facilities are good! As stated earlier the walls are a bit thin but it didn’t bother me. This place really let me feel at home.

Great vibe. Large clean kitchen with many fridges. Bed are weird size.

We were only there one night but would come back anytime. Check in was quick and easy, the double room was quiet, nice but functional and the bed comfortable. The pudding in the evening was delicious and the one hour Wi-Fi free zone led to Nice entertainments where we once again got great tips on our hike in the Abel Tasman. The kitchen was clean, as was the bathroom. We didn't use the showers, so we can't say anything.

Very cozy. There are board games and guitars in the living room. In the garden is a BBQ area and anyone who wants to save money can camp in the garden. The dessert which is there every evening tastes good and is very popular. When we made the Abel Tasman walking track for a few days, we were able to store our superfluous luggage there for free.

One of the nicest hostels we’ve stayed in. The rooms and kitchens are clean and have everything you need, there are plenty of lounging/socialising areas, (inside and out), the staff are super friendly, and the price is right! There’s a lot of extra touches too… a basket full of hot water bottles, bags (non plastic) to take to the supermarket, free chocolate pudding and ice cream every night at 8pm, & loads of brochures and tour info. They are really making an effort to make this a top hostel, and are succeeding.

Very nice hostel, great atmosphere, nice rooms, lots of communal space (indoors and out) for people to relax in, getting everyone together to eat chocolate pudding is a great idea, gets people socialising and also tastes delicious!

The rooms were clean. The kitchen was large and well equipped. The staff was friendly and helpful. We will return when are in Nelson in a few weeks.

Definitely my favourite hostel in New Zealand! Really chilled out vibe, two guitars in the lounge, excellent staff, daily cleaning, free chocolate pudding and ice cream every night, and free breakfast in the off season. I met some really awesome people when I stayed here for three weeks. Abel Tasman is just a day trip away and there is good mountain biking in the area as well.

Absolutely Fantastic! Above and beyond the call of hospitality! Very friendly owners who sent on my laundry when I left it behind! Free chocolate pudding and ice cream every day, what more can you ask for! Thanks a million guys! If I could give you 50 stars I would!

This place is amazing. Good vibes, nice rooms, good living spaces and kitchens. Don't forget to be around at 8pm for the pudding!

Pro: Reasonably nice. Free bikes was good. Bikes are not very good, but they help. Cons: No closet in rooms.

This hostel could be great but it falls down with a few things. It is a fantastic hostel if sleep isn't a main priority. The hostel itself is fairly quiet and not exactly a party place. The noise comes from the walls being incredibly thin so you can hear everything even when people aren't being particularly loud. Even when people are walking around the hostel and coming out of their rooms you can hear it all. It makes people sound a bit like elephants. The hostel is clean and tidy although a little dated looking. The staff seem nice enough although then hostel manager reminded me a bit of a school teacher at times just checking up and hovering about a little too much. The vibe of the place is pretty chilled out and I would recommend it to others if they aren't bothered about the thin walls and their sleep.

One of my favo hostels in NZ. Clean, beautiful, really nice and comfy commonroom with a fireplace. Every day chocolatpudding with icecream. And the owners are awesome.

This is the kind of backpackers you never want to leave. I planned to spend 2 nights originally, but ended up staying 3 weeks. The staff are lovely, the facilities are great, the hammock is comfortable and the bikes are super convenient. The pudding contributes to a welcoming atmosphere that allows you to meet some really fantastic travellers and feel completely at home here.

Great real hostel. Clean an well taken care off. Supernice staff. Hospitality in its best form. Abit cold in winter. Breakfast is mostly carbs.

Cutest hostel I've stayed at while in NZ! Super homey and friendly vibe, free dessert and breakfast, and the staff was really helpful. I really loved the little books they left out for you to write in (add your recipe, describe your favourite place in your home country, etc. ). Only downside was the location — a tiny bit far from the centre of town — but it's totally worth the 15 minute walk. If you're going to Nelson, definitely stay here :)

Good vibe, staff were very nice and couldn't do enough for me. Place was clean and the rooms were tidy. Just a really great place to stay, plus free chocolate pudding and ice cream in the evening always goes down well in my books.

Great stay, great location and great staff! We enjoyed 3 nights here in a double room and enjoyed it. The parking was convenient, the staff were friendly and the shared kitchen was well set up. Tasman bay wants your feedback and recommendations of there is anything to make it better. The only drawback is that it's a bit noisy. We were there over st. Patrick's and some people woke us up at 3 am… That's to be expected as it's a hostel and has more to do with who is staying at the time. Overall, I'd stay again.

Best backpackers I have stayed at! My 15 year old loved it! He'd move in if he could. The chocolate pudding is to die for and the staff are really obliging and helpful. So glad we chose to stay at Tasman Backpackers!

Really is one of the best hostels in NZ. Love the common room, always warm. Free chocolate pudding at night, off brand board games, and good times. Good kitchen and other amenities. Also pretty cheap.

Best Hostel we had in 3 weeks south island… Free WLAN… Very good kitchen… Very friendly owners… Free breakfast and at 8 pm the pudding as dessert… Very clean showers… The laundry is very good and cheap… thanks for the good staying.

This pretty much has everything you would want. Free Wi-Fi, good facilities with big kitchen, clean showers, washing line to hang clothes and lots of places to sit and relax, friendly owners and of course the free pudding an ice cream which is fantastic. You will not go wrong staying here.

Very good hostel. Free bikes to get around Nelson, free Wi-Fi and every evening free dessert. Friendly staff and in your room you find an arrival guide with information about the hostel, attractions and activities in Nelson which was very useful. I stayed in a 4 bed dorm.

This is a great hostel. The Internet is average speed, the accommodations are clean, the shower and kitchen are clean, and the lounge areas a comfortable. Also, they make a sort of chocolate cake with pudding each night at 8:00 and serve it with ice cream for free! The managers are very helpful and always seem to be in the best mood of their life! We had a great time staying here.

Best hostel in the south, warm homely feeling, clean, tidy place with good friendly staff, just needs a pet (like a cat) to cuddle on a night when sat talking round the fire, keep up the good work guys.

It is much more than a backpacker accommodation and can make you change your conception of a backpacker accommodation. I stayed in a double room. The room was very clean and tidy. A delicious chocolate puuding in the evening and a gourmet continental breakfast were complimentary. It is located in the central region of Nelson.

Nice colourful large communal areas and a free chocolate pudding every evening.
