Always the place where we stay whenever we visit New Plymouth. Friendly, welcoming service. Clean and tidy studio's. Centrally located and easy walking to cafes, restaurants, movies, galleries, museum, cbd, seafront, supermarkets, bakeries. Even close to Pukekura Park. Best place to stay in New Plymouth. Been staying here for years. We never look anywhere else.

Lovely place to stay. Airy common rooms when it's hot as well comfortable couchs. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms. Walking distance to supermarkets.

Amazing backpackers with a nice staff! we went to Taranaki to hiking and then we were looking for a nice place to recharge our energies… definitely we found it!

Love it. Everything is super clean, the kitchen has everything you need. The dining table is huge. Really close to the center. Totally recommend it.

This is our main stay whenever we visit the beautiful city of New Plymouth. Always a friendly and welcoming hello. Stay in the motel part of the complex. Always neat tidy and homely.
It's so central to what we like doing. So we usually walk everywhere from here. Or we hire bicycles from the bike hire or Devon Street (in the cbd) and cycle up and down the coast (& wherever). Thanks Ducks & Drakes for always a wonderful stay.

Made a good base for us to do a walk on mt taranaki and fairly comfortable on the whole. Nice dining area, lounge and border collies, but the kitchen is a little untidy. Our triple room was a bit on the small side and rather shabby — lots of cobwebs, dust and we had to ask for pillow cases. The hostel and rooms are colourful and inviting but I guess you could say it looks a little 'dishevelled' and 'scruffy' and in need of some updating.

It was a hostel and a motel. Stayed here for three nights, staff and the people who were staying here was really friendly. It was a enjoyable stay. Nice cosy rooms and everything was close by and walking distance. Recommend for everyone.

Best hostel I've ever been to! Lovely, warm, beautiful place. Close to the city but far enough to be a calm place.

Basic overs, but has friendly staff. Could use more practical bathrooms and any extractor fan in the kitchen so the smells don't flood the rooms. Overpriced for what it is, but has everything you need and good kitchen, cozy lounge and warm fire.

I have been staying at this place for years and I keep coming back because the people that run this clean, tidy, value for money place are hospitality exemplars. I come for WOMAD and the location is perfect. I hire a bike from here to get around New Plymouth before WOMAD starts and make the most of being in this neat city. Ducks and Drakes really support you in exploring Taranaki by being consistently reliable, friendly and organised. They communicate expectations around what is expected when you stay here which is how I like it. They are good guardians of a clean and restful place to stay. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Nice hostel in the heart of New Plymouth. Nice rooms with small kitchen.

An absolutely fantastic hostel in New Plymouth located right beside all the supermarkets. The facilities are all clean and excellent. The beds are comfy, bathrooms big and clean. The kitchen is huge with every utensil you ever want. There is a big TV with Sky, free Wi-Fi which is usually pretty quick and a ton of common areas both indoors and outdoors to sit, relax, chat, read or whatever.
It's a mix of a backpackers hostel which is what I did and motel with individual units. This led to a really great mix of people that you don't normally get. I always stay at backpackers and it's usually full of 20 and 30 something German English, Americans etc but the first time I stayed here there was a family of 3 generations who was staying here and great to talk to them. I don't normally see that.
It's a member of BBH family so if you have BBH card you get $4 off which as well as everything I mentioned above means it's also fantastic value.
I can't recommend staying here enough if you visiting New Plymouth and/or climbing Taranaki like I was.

Its an okay hostel. Its about a 15 min walk from the bus stop. It was clean for the most part, the room was a little musty. The dogs they keep are cute. The showers in the bathrooms are small. The owner is strange, he can be observed walking around the hostel cursing to himself. And is only polite to young female backpackers. Its close to the grocery store.

We stayed here on the 22 of July 2017 and had such a lovely time. The accommodation we booked was the cottage with it's own bathroom and facilities. The room was well presented and very clean. The staff were friendly I would definitely recommend Ducks and Drakes to my family and friends in the future.

Really enjoyed my stay here. Free Wi-Fi and barista coffee. Felt like home. Will be back :)

Good place to stay! Definitely better than the wha in New Plymouth. Lovely and very helpful owner. We had a clean couple room for about two nights and we really enjoyed our stay.

Quiet, friendly and chilled. Had a lovely time.

The owners are friendly and helpful, there's a relaxed atmosphere, funky artwork, new comfortable mattresses, towels… in winter a log fire in the lounge, often a group playing board games or someone jamming quietly on a guitar. My favourite place to stay.

One of the best backpacker hostels I've been to. Very good amenities, friendly stuff. Shared dorm in the garden is perfect. Cleaned on a daily basis. Beach and city centre in easy walking distance. Supermarkets 3 min walk.

Told the host we would be arriving late in the evening, host said it wouldnt be a problem, when we arrived he kicked us out, had to book an expensive hotel. Not a very warm welcome to new Plymouth.

A hostel with a lot of charm. My room was a bit warm. But beside that, everything was fine. The staff was very kind, would stay here again. Free Wi-Fi.

Wow is all I can say. Ultimate comfort for sleeping, warm clean and welcoming the host is funny welcoming and bent over backwards to ensure we were happy and settled in well. The place is funky clean and the building is amazing. Excellent location with a choice of rooms for all budgets and needs. Will defenitley return — even if its just to experience the comedic welcome and check in. A BBH that any owner should aspire to. Well done ducksndrakes you rock.

Fantastic place to stay if traveling to new plymouth, always helpful and resourceful when you have any questions as to what's good and going on in the area, fantastic hosts and awsome staff, very clean, also accommodations are excellent and suited to all budgets, really homely and welcoming especially when the fire in the lounge is roaring you can chill out on the sofas and chat with fellow travellers, would highly recommend and stay here again if in the area.
