Very impressed with Pavillions Hotel. The restaurant is very well done and seems to have an amazing chef and team that know what they're doing. The food was faultless and very good value. We had breakfast before checking out and was amazing. The selection on offer caters to different requirements.

We’ve been coming to the Pavilions for years. Enjoy the food, the staff are great and rooms are spacious & modern all with kitchen facilities which I love. Central to everything. This is why we keep coming back. Recommend to anyone.

Had a stay this week. Was awesome. Great place, awesome food for brekkie and at Jimmy’s. Jimmy’s is an amazing history lesson — even bought both the books. The staff were always cheery and helpful especially the Sunday night waitress who was a great multi-tasker! Will be staying there again! Thanks heaps. Cheers.

Have stayed here three times now but this time was very dissappointed in the state of the room it was an upgrade as well. Room was very shabby and old they did say it's not one of the new rooms for the update but yes I was shocked at how outdated this room was. The view over the pool was nice. The break fast was very enjoyable.

Easy walk to city centre. Lovely staff, relaxing bar. Honestly there is nothing not to love about this hotel. Totally recommend staying here.

Amazing hotel… perfect, rooms, breakfast and staff so helpful and friendly. Came upon it by chance and stayed 2 nights. To meet Graeme was a total pleasure.

My favourite hotel in NZ. I've seen a few. Food is great, staff are amazing. Imagine immaculate service, nice rooms and great food without the sterile and wallet sterilising pretension of some other place that you hope might be better cause it costs more. It isn't better. It costs more for no particular reason. This IS the best accommodation experience in NZ. The bar is a museum of sorts and there's a wonderful story to be told by it's walls and the family members who serve you. Just trust me… go there.

Left a review on Tripadvisor, got an unfriendly response. Would've been more than happy to leave I. D with my cash deposit — there was also no sign stating no credit card or I. D, no stay.
Copied and pasted below is my Tripadvisor review and their response. My husband and I are ex Cantabrians and were home over Christmas break. Making the most of having family around, we thought we'd go out for a child free date night and book a hotel for the night. Lets get this straight before… I continue — my husband is covered in tattoos and we don't "look" like we can afford to stay at this place.
Anyway, the afternoon of the 29th December, we had a look on Expedia for a decent, mid price range place to stay for the night and seen Pavilions. We drove there, went into reception, asked if there were any rooms available and the lady at reception outright said, "no we are fully booked". I told her there were rooms available on Expedia and she then said she'd have a look. "We do have rooms available but ONLY superior deluxe" insinuating it was a room we couldn't afford — I said that's fine and I'll take it. There was then a problem with us not having a credit card (we are lucky enough to be in a financial position where we've never needed one), even though I was more than happy to leave behind a large cash deposit — she told me that she couldn't help me then and "you could try next door but I doubt he'd do it".

Room has just been refurbished to a really high standard and was very comfortable. Everything needed was provided and the breakfast excellent. Staff were friendly. Certainly a place to return to for us.

The room was ok overall. It was a bit noisy sometimes. You could hear noises from the other room and it was close to the road so traffic noise. The jetted tub was extremely noisy when we turned it on so didnt feel comfortable using it. Bed was comfortable but room felt a bit confined as curtains had to be drawn for privacy all the time. Service was friendly and professional.

Really enjoyed our staycation at Pavillions — a great location if you want to enjoy walking around the city, and great facilities if you just want to stay in and treat yourself to a spa bath. Order in or eat at the restaurant, the food is fantastic!

Lovely friendly place to stay. Nothing was a problem and all the staff are super accommodating and helpful to all requests. Will definitely stay here again. Great facilities, and great hearty food.

Wonderfuly close to central Christchurch. Great food. Interesting historic photographs and musram quality exhibits. A great place to stay.

Parking should improve. Some parking take two space. On my stay 1 night I could not get my van close to my room coz someone didnt know how to park. I had to carry my kid and belonging for didtance to carry. When asked the staff didnt know wjat to do.

Couldn't have stayed in a better place I don't think. The facilities, the people. Absolutely fantastic!

It is alright for a couple of nights. They offer free Wi-Fi but we never managed to pick the sign properly so we had to use our data. Not happy. Both room and the bathroom were large but dated. The pub is worth a visit.

Friendly staff. Clean rooms fully equipped. Pool area small but nice. Jimmys Bar is awesome with lots of memorabilia. Close to a couple of restaurants and service station. Laundry accessible. Free WIFi. Free movies.

Conveniently located near the city centre and all the key attractions are within walking distance! Beautiful and vintage hotel building that gives you a peaceful mind. A fine dining restaurant is located within the hotel. Nice food! We would go back again.

The people here are so amazing! They will do what they can to make sure your stay is great. I would definitely stay here again. It is about a 20-30 min walk to the center of the city. The accommodations here are also really good. Nice clean rooms and an easy layout. The 3 Kelly's working night shift were especially great to us.

This motel had great 2 room suites with excellent beds, TV and showers. In room spa baths and cooking facilities mean great value. Guest laundry well appointed.

Large high quality motel Christchurch. Quaint bar on street front. Two pals started the place way back. Had good meal, beer. I will go there again next time I am in Christchurch.

I am staying here for work, at 2 bedroom apartment with ensuite kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen appliances quite complete too. Close to Merivale boutique mall. The food menu from room service is great too.

I've stayed at pavilions 3 times now, currently in the third stay, and it is brilliant. Beds are high quality, there is free high cap Wi-Fi, and the restaurant and bar are also lovely. The room we are in, one of the two bedroom suites (800-12) is incredibly cozy while still being nozy. Only criticism I can give is that our shower was quite difficult to use properly, with the spout being stuck over 2 metres in the air, making it hard to wash properly. There is also a room wide window directly above the bathtub, which was very revealing. However, the hotel is outstanding and I would definitely stay again.

Nicely done. Well situated between the airport and central Christchurch. Quality cottages and above average service. Whirlpool baths but bathrooms do need better cleaning. Some hairs were found and the bath jets spewed out black particles. Buffet breakfast is a bit expensive at $25NZ/EA. There are other accommodation options.

Amazingly friendly staff. I accidentally slept through check out, after they called and even poked their head in, they decided I really needed the sleep. Woke up a bit later and called to apologize and they laughed about it with me… I really did need it with all the traveling… much much thanks, would highly recommend. Good coffee too!

Last night I stayed at the pavillions & after staying here I would not want to settle for anything else. The staff were so friendly and put me at ease as I felt a little uncomfortable staying on my own but was out to ease so fast with how welcoming and helpful everyone was. The room was spotless and so warm, the mirror in the bathroom was amazing and when I rung this morning at 5am for room service the gentleman I dealt with was extremely polite and helpful and was nice to open the door to a big smiling face. The pavillions has just set my expectations for accommodation very high & I will definitely be back & this time will definitely be trying out the restaurant next time as it smelt divine. Could not of asked for anything better. Thank you.

Dated, but fit for purpose… just.

From the moment we arrived we were amazed at the treatment we received. The staff treated us like we were old family friends and always had a smile for us. The rooms were really good, and very warm considering it was snowing. The restaurant were very accommodating. We didn't have a booking but the seated us anyway and the food was fantastic. Overall, the whole stay was wonderful. Thanks to the staff for treating us like old mates.

This place is noisy, and way out of date. The price should be halve what it is.

This place is noisy. The windows and doors are thing and let sound in like the're not even there. If you have to wake up early for any reason, you won't be happy. If the partyers don't keep you up all night on Saturday, the obnoxious music from the bar will keep you up on Sunday night. If you're coming here to party, this must be the place to be. If you're coming here for business or any other reason that doesn't revolve around the schedule of this hotel, stay somewhere else.

I stayed at the Pavilions Hotel for a night, and wasn't a giant fan. The room I was in didn't stay all that warm, even with the heater on, and the bathroom looked like it had last been updated in the early 90s. The room tariff is definitely on the high side, and not worth it for the quality of room available. On the upside, the food at the restaurant isn't too bad, and the drinks are decently priced.
