A unique experience! If you’re expecting a 5* hotel this isn’t for you. We loved it, surrounded by amazing scenery and animals.
Kevin has thought of everything and has worked tirelessly over the last few years since the quake to keep things going. There are several options to choose from. A yurt, old railway carriage and tipi. Thanks team!

Interesting spaces and places. Kids loved it.

If your interest is mainly to meet the various unique animals, may consider this place. However, do prepare to accept some not so new/wear and tear kind of cookware or utensils. Our family had our great time meeting and at times feeding the chickens/birds, alpacas, llama, pigs, sheep…

Smelly and dusty place with a rude owner… nothing positive to say! You can find much better places to stay.

Amazing weekend that you to the great team on site for making it such a great one, I would recommend this to anyone wanting to get away from your phone and enjoy the great outdoors can’t wait to visit again in the summer.

What a great place to stay.
We stayed in the yurt, there was plenty of room for two adults and two teenagers.
The outside kitchen was a lot of fun.
If you are open to try something new I would recommend Wacky Stays.

Disappointment. We booked the cottage. Pluses were a quiet location far from the downtown tourist-y Kaikoura and comfortable beds. Minuses were many: freezing house heated by electric space heaters and a wood stove with inadequate wood supplied; shower with almost no water pressure (imagine trying to shower under essentially a dripping faucet with very limited warm water) ; ancient Wi-Fi that failed frequently; toilet room unheated with plastic wrap over the open window (! ) ; "farm" animals in a filthy state wallowing in mud and no farming anywhere — they are essentially poorly kept pets (feeding sheep bread? Really? ) ; proprietor was very negative and weird ("let's feed the animals then, shall we? Ok, we're done, let's move on") ; cottage with holes in the floor that have been covered with carpeting. Never again.

The rooms were nice it's just the service needs work. Like more towels and lower the prices for the lama trecking cause your only walking next to it. But I loved the animal feeding. Also the llamas and alpackas were so cute. There was also & & and 1

My husband and I stayed in the wagon on Friday night and it was fantastic! Amazing location, views, really relaxing and we loved feeding the animals. Would definitely stay here again :)

I am terribly disappointed. My family including two infants (1 and 3) were in Picton with the plan to drive down to Wacky Stays. When the road was closed between the two places due to the weather (for a week! ) we were told that it was “awkward” and that we would not be refunded any of our money. We were told that we chose not to drive 6.5 hours to get there, adding 3.5 hours of driving in a day with two toddlers. This is simply unrealistic and unreasonable to expect. I would have hoped for a little more courtesy, and not being charged 100% for something beyond all of our control.

It is an excellent place to stay. A new experience to us, the gert is well decorated, very clean and comfortable. The bathroom is superb, clean, and lots of hot water. We enjoyed staying there and recommend for anyone to try their services. You can also opt for animal feeding and enjoy the stargazing.

If you want to experience something new although it is bit overpriced unhinged place (as it is a farm area), then go for it. Otherwise I strongly suggest not to. I stayed in Tipi with my two teenaged kids. Up to 4 people can stay there and spacious. Bathroom is outside but clean (I suggest to use flip flops when you shower). 1. Smell: it is a tent, therefore it has an unique smell which we couldn’t get used to. Sheepskins and weird American Indian’s wig and dream catchers are everywhere. If you have small kids who afraid of those, consider again to choose this place. 2. Bedding: this was the worst part of our staying. I could really smell so many people’s head smell from the pillows. And I doubted that they change the beddings from the previous customers. The colour of sheets are dark and worn off so I couldn’t prove it but I am sure. At the end I used my own clothes for pillows and blankets. 3. Breakfast: they will give you basic ingredients for breakfast and you have to cook. Although we stayed for two nights, they only supplied breakfast only for a day. 4. Farm animals: they would entertain you but they wake up early and make noises and their feces are everywhere. 5. No Wi-Fi: it is almost lie that Wi-Fi is available in room. Even mobile data wasn’t working. 6. Kitchen: outside and you need to wash them before use. Only cold water available. 7. It was leaking when it rained. : ( Please do not use shower gowns. I don’t think they are clean.

Great night staying in the Tipi. Very comfortable sleep and we awoke to the sound of chickens and sheep baaing. Amazing farm too!

We stayed in the colonial wagon and absolutely loved it! So beautiful waking up to the view of the snowy mountains and llamas! Wagon itself had everything you need and was quirky and fun. Farm animals were super friendly and the whole place had a wonderful vibe. Will definately be coming back :-)

Never again. The idea is good. But mice poohs in my House Truck we ran out of gas for cooking. The manageress was very unfriendly.

Was really bad. The pace was good but attitude of the owner was disappointing. Because of SH1 closure we took a lot longer and we didn't know about this earlier nor the owner informed us but still the owner was not ready to wait for us and asked to book something else. Later he agreed waiting if we pay him 30 dollars for half an of wait. We were 3 hours late so you can imagine the extra amount we were maid to shed out.

We, three girls, stayed in the train carriage for one night. It's an impressive experience for us, and interactions with the animals in the farm is great too. I think it will also be a great stay for a family, kids will be crazy for it.

We have had a fantastic time here. We would def recommend the train carriage for a family of 4, it was comfortable and cosy and our children loved it. The owners are lovely and welcoming, when we arrived there was bread, milk, butter, eggs and delicious homemade jam waiting for us. The kids loved walking around the farm, petting & feeding the animals, riding the pony and we even had an evening visitor to our garden — the lovely tame deer. We'd thoroughly recommend this place and will come again one day.
