Our family stayed at the Grand Mercure last night after a flight cancellation, what could have been a stressful situation turned into a wonderful extension to our holiday. Thank you for your kindness, the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had access to all we needed during our stay. Forage restaurant was a highlight, the meals were impeccable and yet again fantastic service from all. Thank you for making our young children feel so welcome, they loved the experience. Would visit again in a heartbeat!

We had a short but very sweet stay here earlier in the week. The service was outstanding. Every staff member was friendly and competent. The hotel is classy without being showy. Everything was clean and in order. Our Grand-daughters visited us and were treated like royalty! They were served fresh biscuits and tea in the foyer. They had such fun in the pool and sauna and then later on enjoyed snacks in the bar. We loved the generous buffet breakfast and the great coffee. The bed was super comfy and we took advantage of the pillow menu to extend our comfort. The hotel manager was proactive both in overseeing various aspects of the services and interacting with guests. A big thumbs up from us to the Grand Mecure Wellington.

Awesome service, great buffet breakfast. The valet worker was super nice too! so friendly everywhere and everyone you talk to had a smile.

Excellent service, kind friendly staff. The food in the restaurant was excellent, and nice comfy bed. The shower was great, with a choice of hand held or rain shower, overall great stay and we will be back.

Exhorbitant price for a room overlooking a car park and into someone else’s house. Considering the price paid and the half empty hotel, I’m confused as to why we are in a basement near the leisure centre on the lowest possible floor. The room has absolutely no soundproofing. All night we heard every car door, room door, people entering the pool, the lifts, people talking in their room and even walking on the floor above us. It was constant. At 7am the room above us started ma…intenance and be endless drilling began. The shower is higher than the rest of the room, so water runs down into the cupboard sized bathroom. The glass bathroom “door” jams closed and can only be opened from the outside. You also can’t open the door to enter the room more than half way as it hits the glass bathroom door. The heating is loud, clunky and takes forever to heat the tiny room. Nothing “grand” here. It is, by far, the worst experience I have had in a hotel. An extremely regrettable choice with not a single redeeming quality.

The good: Bed was great, near and tidy, food was awesome. The bad: poor service after complaining about the smell in the room 3 times they tried fixing it by running the shower for 15 minutes. Then the fiasco with the loose toilet seat. Should have asked for a refund at that stage. The inconvenience of having people coming into your room 3 times while trying to have a rest after a long flight… Would not even consider moving us to another room. Its the customer service that draws you back to places. Sorry.

All and all a nice place. Better suited to a corporate type visit over a family getaway. Restaurant and bar had nice views of the city and food was good. Room was small but clean and the bed was comfortable enough. All staff were friendly and professional.

Good experience and nice ambiance. Staff are accommodating. A bit far from restaurants and city centre. Quite a climb uphill if you dont know there is an elevator on the other street. Overall recommended if staying in Wellington.

Great place, warm and welcoming, friendly staff. Close enough to everything, but also just a bit removed from the hustle and bustle. Would happily stay here again.

ABSOLUTELY love the Grand Mercure on the Terrace.

Stayed in a deluxe king room. Location was a little strange, right in the middle of a large residential area. The views were nice though as the hotel was halfway up a hill. Restaurant (Forage) was a little overpriced for what the offerred, especially the appetisers. Overall a nice stay as what matters most are the rooms and those were well appointed. (No bathtub though)

Rooms were perfect but breakfast was disappointing, aside from tables not being cleared the buffet was lacking a lot of things, wasnt replenished and staff didnt bother to check on it, not until we asked them to, $35 was not worth it, didnt even bothered to explain that theres ala carte menu, just told that theres continental or full buffet. Was really dissapointing. Dinner was waaaaaayyyy better than breakfast. Dinner staff was really accommodating and realy explained the menu even they were short staff, would likely recommend the hotel for dinner and rooms but not the breakfast.

Very nice hotel with great views of Wellington. Love the self service espresso machines and food selection provided at the breakfast buffet.

Nice and clean and staff were friendly. Really bad room service options. (Like rediculas limited annoyingly) no hanging space in the rooms. Live out of your suitcases.

I hope it was all a comedy of errors. Booked a room for our honeymoon and arranged a late arrival. Stuck in the lift at 3am. Champagne bucket full of water and hot. Ordered room service, only to find they were out of stock. Arranged and paid for a 2pm check out, only to have 3 people knock on the door while doing what honeymooner's do at 11, 11:30 and 12, certainly a memory that will last. Gave up hope of peace and quiet, headed out for a walk, only to find that my room keys had be deactivated. Approached management who stupidly offered a free night or anything I could think of… how about a refund in full for atrocious service, a lasting bad memory of the night and a destroyed milestone achieved in our life? But no, you wanted me to provide a solution? You're the 5 star hotel apparently, guest relations and providing solutions for your service or lack of it is not my job.

What fantastic value for money. A modem and well equipped hotel that would challenge most four Star hotels in Wellington. Typically a $10 Uber ride from parliament.

Price for two nights was comparable to a hostel or bed and breakfast, location was further from CBD than we imagined but still within an easy walk. Decor was a bit dated especially in bathroom but overall was very reasonable for the cost. Now that the hotel has had a renovation and trades as the Grand Mercure, this has probably changed.

Absolutely beautiful hotel, really elegant. Staff were friendly. Really smooth checking in and checking out process. $30 for parking was a bit much as most hotels charge $20 but other than that no faults at all. Really nice luxury rooms. Nice updated modern classic vibe.

We had our official conference here. The conference room, facilities, support and attention to detail was top class. The food served during afternoon was very good. The conference room was big with good ventilation. A very satisfying experience.

Poor motel room was not clean probably with rubbish under bed and $30 a night valet parking on top of room price to park at motel. We stayed for two nights and had room service clean the room next day but did not change the sheets on the bed. Pretty disappointed with this motel the brochure doesn't match what you get won't be back in future.

Average hotel. Claims they have free Wi-Fi but very limited amount. Lasted me half an hour. I requested an early check-in and late checkout, both were accepted but then ignored. Room was okay but didn't seem too clean. Smart TV wasn't set up properly. Staff were friendly and the facilities were nice.

The staff at the Grand Mercure are absolutely wonderful — friendly and helpful at all times and really made us feel welcome. The hotel is beautiful, the food was delicious (and we ate at the restaurant many times during our stay — never had a bad meal! ), the breakfast buffet was fantastic too. Valet parking is extremely good value as there is limited parking in the area (true in most of Wellington city tho). I will definitely be back :)

Really nice hotel but only parking is $35 valet. There is a back entrance that may be easier to self park especially on weekends. Weekdays most street parking requires resident coupon.

One of the best! Enjoyed my stay and the meal. Lovely decor.

Was not informed of ongoing construction work, the hotel and other guests were, in general, very noisy and the rooms lacked any form of sound-proofing. On a business trip, I called reception at midnight to ask to be shifted to a quieter room, they said they would sort it out and call me back 5 minutes later. I received no call. When I voiced my complaints at reception then next morning they did not knowledge or apologise for my broken sleep. I was still charged in full for my stay. My conference was also held at the hotel, they delivered morning/afternoon tea late multiple times and the food/coffee was horrible. This hotel lacked basic customer service and curtesy, especially considering the rates they charge. Wouldn't stay here again and have advised my friends and family to avoid this place.

Brilliant place with quick and extremely helpful services. Is brand new, so even better! Has good views from a smalliah hill top. Is an accor group hotel, so don't forget to bag your points whole staying here. Food services can be improved. Being new, fitness center and swimming pool is expected to open by September 17

We had a great stay here recently, the room was lovely, staff were great. As an Accor Club Member we recieved lots of great perks.

Rooms have obviously been made over and look flash but don't feel good. Door didn't open properly due to door stop having to be at odd place. They follow the silly trend of using sliding glass doors for the bathroom. Seems to amplify sound. No matter how much you love someone there's things you don't want to hear. Terrible noise levels between rooms. Neighbours were playing music you could hear clearly and then got back at 4am and bonked for 2 hours. Location is not near shops, restaurants etc Staff save this from being a 1 star. Never again.

Friendly helpful staff. Beautifully redecorated. Just a short walk to cuba st with interesting shops, restaurants etc. Quirky Cuba St. Love it!

Great staff and management but — noisy neighbour through connecting door, single glazing so cold damp windows, absolutely hopeless main lighting and useless reading lamps, but beds and food fantastic and porter/magician a bonus during fire emergency. I would not drive a big coach anywhere near here. Overall didn't hit its 5 star rating.

If you like the smell of mold and enjoy rude hotel staff the Asian manager. Then you will love this place.

Yes this hotel is dated! I have only ever stayed in the superior rooms. I would highly recommend the superior rooms as they are HUGE! with AMAZING VIEWS of Wellys which is rather unique for a city hotel. If you can handle the dated decor then you won't find another hotel for this price with this much space or with such grand views. Book the superior room, it's worth the extra few $s.

Not overly cheap for what it offers, windows and doors are not made for the wellywood winds, no sound proof for the rooms.

An older hotel that has been redecorated reasonably recently. My room was small but nicely laid out in a modern, minimalist business traveller configuration. No cupboards, but more than enough hangers and coat-racks for a short stay. The bathroom was clean and well maintained and everything worked well I walked and caught buses during my stay and so can’t comment on the car-parking. The restaurant was a very pleasant surprise. I only ate there in the evening once as I wanted to try other places around town, but I was sorely tempted. The fish dish was fantastic. An extremely well designed combination of interestingly compatible flavours. The breakfasts were very nice but nothing I can rave about as out of the ordinary. I ate them happily, thoroughly enjoyed them and would again. Overall I’d happily stay there again and would try and fit in eating there on a future trip to Wellington even if I weren’t staying in the hotel.

Room is nice enough, but outdated shower and only has tea / coffee facilites. Location is a decent walk from centre of town, but building has a rear exit that skips most of the hill. Would stay agian if the price was right.

Not overly cheap. Only stayed 2 nights. The first night the man on the desk was awful, rude and obviously too busy for us. The second night there was a much nicer lady on the desk. Dated, old, clean and tidy. No new towels or a change of sheets for the second night. Gym and spa needed serious updating.

We stayed at this hotel while on tour. Our tour bus consisted of 45 people. There is only 1 lift. This lift would take a maximum of 4 people. If a 5th tried to get in it flashed up over loaded. So it took forever to get to our long awaited comfy room. Did I say comfy? The room was so small. No room for 2 people and 2 suit cases. The bathroom was VERY OLD and in bad need of a make over. We asked for a wake up call as did the rest of the bus. Only a handful of people got a wake up call. Just as well I was awake all night thanks to the YAHOOING from the party goers all night and the pedestrian crossing going tick tick tick tick bbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Never mind I thought. As I was so hungry cos dinner the night before was not enough to feed my 17month old grand daughter I was so looking forward to breakfast. Well the bacon, eggs, and sausages were cold and the 3 pieces of white bread I attempted to cook were all mouldy. When checking out I was charged $15.70 for a local call. When I confronted the man at reception he said well thats what the computer is showing me. I spoke to our lovely Tour Director who went and spoke to this gentleman. I was asked to go back inside to see this fellow. He apologised and said sorry computer must be playing up again I give you a refund. So he did. Left a VERY BITTER taste in my mouth. Mecure pull your socks up and lift your game. What a dreadful experience. Those considering this hotel would be doing them selves a favour to stay elsewhere.

Excellent breakfast but we were upset to pay $15 per day for car parking in an out of city location when not advised of this on booking or check in.
