We've stayed a couple of times now & each time has been great. Staff are super friendly & happy to help. Two pools which are clean & heated. The grounds are beautifully kept & the food is amazing! Great family atmosphere.

For a $400+ room we were very disappointed… there was no air conditioning, it was a very hot uncomfortable night, the person next door was smoking outside and the smoke was coming into our room, there was no phone to ring reception. The curtains were, old, dirty looking and very wrinkled. The joinery was swollen and it was difficult to open the draws. The TV was tiny with no addition channels (no sky, Netflix) There was no information in the room about the complex. At the poolside bar, there was only a couple of staff, one staff member was running between the tables, they were nice but obviously rushed off there feet, the tables were not cleared and were cluttered with dirty dishes and glasses, the food was of very poor quality and the seafood platter was cold. There was no check of our vaccine pass in any of the facilities despite this being stated as a requirent on the website. The photos on the website of the rooms, facilities and food are way different and an over exaggeration to the reality. I’m not usually one to write negative reviews but feel that after a very tough year we wanted to spoil ourselves for one night somewhere nice and overall it was not worth the hard earned money we paid to stay there and we were very dissapointed.

We spent here a New Years Eve and had a great time. The resort is clean with different activities from 2 heated pools, spa pools, tennis courts to a golf course. Staff at the reception, bar and restaurant was very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and well equipped. We had a tasty New Years Special buffet dinner incl. A welcome drink. Just few minutes from Taupo so great location. So many activities around the area. We will be back!

Wairakei is one of my favorite places to stay in Taupo as it's self contained with all the makings for a perfect relaxing weekend available on site. Casey and the team at the Geyser Bar are very hospitable, and dining in the Pavilion Restaurant is excellent. Special thanks to Joy, who calmly patched me up following a wee accident on Saturday night. A little disappointed to find the private spas closed in our recent visit but also understand it is difficult times. Definitely recommend booking a treatment with the onsite masseuse at the body firm spa. All in all, a great experience and I look forward to returning… again!

On short holiday with group, had a mid August Christmas dinner food was wonderful great selection, staff friendly and helpful, rooms nice with cocoa, tea, and coffee available in room.

Highly recommend. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the heated pool. We will definitely be back.

A large group of us came to Wairakei Resort to celebrate my Mums 50th Birthday Weekend. Highly recommend this place. The customer service was excellent we were treated like kings and queens. The Staff were awesome and a staff member by the name of Troyden was very helpful and great at his job, top marks bro for looking after us😊😊 The restaurant was delicious. Thank yous for having us xx😊

Just spent the night there and found it very relaxing and comfortable. Next time we would stay a couple of nights as it was so pleasant. Very comfortable room, clean, parking was easy and we enjoyed the food in the bar.

OMG! Been amazing from checking in. Fabulous staff, too many to name personally. Highly recommend this property and full credit to you all.

The rooms are nice and spacious, not often we get a washing machine, dryer and a dishwasher in our room so that was an awesome surprise, there’s also enough spa pools to have one to yourselves love it.

We just came here to stay after staying at the Hilton Lake Taupo. We would HIGHLY reccomend this place. The pool was amazing. The beds were so comfortable. The staff are the best we have ever seen any where in NZ. They went above and beyond. The lovely lady and man from Nepal working in the restaraunt and Bar last night were just incredible. Giving us everything to make our meal and stay perfect. If you are after somewhere to stay for the perfect holiday, especially with children. I would definately come here. We just wanted to say thank you so very much! And to the Nepal waiter and lady in the restaurant thank you so so much!

Thia place is amazing for children and families. Staff are friendly, its clean, quiet and well located. Definately a place to stay again.

The place could do with some work, a little run down, the beds are very small and uncomfortable, rooms look very tired, 2 adults can’t share the bed. No soap in our shower. Over priced. Deciding to check out early.

We had booked in for the Jingle and Mingle Christmas party with our work group as we had such a great time in 2018. This year very disappointing event. The dinner last year was fantastic, great buffet with lovely salads, mains and desserts. This year the dinner had been changed to different country food tables around the room. We had to take disposable plates to get a small sample, food very average, standing in lines to get to each area. Last year it was nice for a Christmas party to eat on proper plates. At some of the stations condiments plates were empty and no refills handy so we missed some of thisThe venue this year was so hot it was unenjoyable to sit and eat. Our work mates were regularly going out to get some fresh air to cool down so disrupted the social aspect of the night. The band was miles away from where we were sitting this year which took away from the atmosphere of the night, last year the band was up front of the tables and everyone was involved in the bands show. Going to the bar in the heat meant waiting in lines, then we were told not making cocktails as they took too long to make… all we wanted was a nice Christmas party drink… feels like there was not enough staff on to cater for this.
Last year the photo booth was in the room, this year in another area which again took away from the table atmosphere, a casino night was included so some of our party were in a different area.

We only stay one nite, really comfy bed, nice room in good, tidy condition, really friendly staff, great bar, good restaurant too.

We stayed 7 nights in a junior suite. We wanted somewhere we could relax and recover … what a superb place to do just that. Room was a little dated but everything worked and was impeccably clean. The breakfast buffet was great, the evening meals at the restaurant were top notch, the bar was cosy and the staff remember your name (although the “reserved for Graeme Brickell” sign on the fireplace couches every night is bizarre and quite inappropriate! ). Oh and the selection of television channels is rather limited, just as well we brought our own media player. The waiting staff were brilliant … to be honest our break away was very hard to fault. The heated pool was the perfect way to end the day. We’re planning to make this an annual winter escape.

The restaurant and rooms were great as was the proximity to Taupo. The best golf course I've ever played was 5 minutes away.

Couple with a wonderful location and attentive staff, this is a great place to spend some time and relax.

Highly recommend staying at Wairakei Resort. Staff are hugely accommodating and always our preference of hotels when staying in Taupo.

We want to thank the staff for a fantastic Easter brunch we had this morning. The food was delicious we thoroughly enjoyed it. Tayla served us and was most helpful thank you. Our son enjoyed his Easter eggs and food. Highly recommend to eat here 100%. Eggs Benedict cooked to perfection. Thank you!

Had our daughters 21st dinner here and the food was incredible, with a large variety of meat, salads and puddings (meat and seafood buffet). The service amazing. The staff were so accommodating, friendly, and lovely. The atmosphere was beautiful. Our family of 24 had such a great time.

Great quiet location just outside taupo township. Next to wairakei golf course and wairakei terraces. Lots of activities for families. Buffet breakfast had good variety. Rooms very clean. But rooms/residence buildings badly in need of renovation. Carpet was very worn and stained. Bathrooms needed renovation. Decor outdated and furnishings very worn.

The stay was out of this world. Lovely view from room looking down to little bridge over the pond and trees. Very calming. Great service from your staff. Great conference still buzzing from the lovely time I spent there.

We love staying at Wairakei Resort. We enjoy the amenities such as the spa and sauna, gym, squash court and tennis. The Rooms are clean and the beds are comfy. Sadly the food this time was very average. We were there while a conference was on but sadly it was not up to par. Even the breakfast bacon & eggs were unpalatable. New chef?

Check-in was efficient and friendly. The room was a little tired looking and some of the information books were out of date by about 6years. The price we paid for the room was (in our opinion) a little too much for what we got. However the bed was comfortable and the shower was great. It was clean and tidy. The food from the restaurant was outstanding and the barman Raymond was fantastic. Was left a box of chocolates for our anniversary which was a lovely touch.

We enjoy staying here, it's our third visit & we plan on more. It's convenient with the golf course through the under road tunnel, then a lovely hot swim which is enjoyed by all guests young & old. It's great to see the families & children have so much fun. A drink in the bar then into dinner in the restaurant, never disappoints & back for breakfast. We love the relaxed feeling and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Really friendly staff which made our time here lovely. Rooms dated but well kept and clean. Overheard them talking about a major refit. Spa was fantastic. Possibly one of the best massages I have had. Well worth the money.

Fantastic service. Lovely rooms. Prefect for a family getaway as the rooms are well set up and there are lots of activities on site to do. We booked our a conference room for big family dinner, only down side was that we had to get our drinks from the busy bar, otherwise lovely buffet dinner in perfect size room.

We stay at Wairakei once a month through winter/spring for motorcross. The staff are always so wonderful and helpful and the check-in/check-out process is always fast. We have a 7 year old and a 4 year old and they love the complex — especially the hot pools! We are always made to feel welcome and nothing is ever a problem for the staff. The buffet night on Saturday's is what our whole family look forward to as the food is always exceptional.

The property proved to be great for the event I attended. Their meeting room was good and the meal that followed was excellent. The room was well appointed, quiet and the bed was very comfortable. I'll definitely stay there again.

Really good service, staff lovely. Rooms need updating. Have not seen a shower over bath for a long time. No plug for bath either. Television too small and fuzzy. Not good to watch the Royal Wedding on.

Attended a conference here, good venue. Great staff, good food and park like surroundings. Excellent bar staff.

I like this place as it had a cosy feel. Good restaurant and bar. Lovely hot swimming pools. Has an ageless feel about it. If you can get a room on the ground floor opposite the pool you can walk straight out to the pool from your room. Very helpful reception. Lots a of amenities fitting the billing of resort but don't expect the earth. Old style and laid back!

I love this place and have forgotten how many times I've stayed! The facilities and fantastic and staff always friendly. They always look after us here and this stay I even got a free upgrade! I only wish there were more resorts like Wairekei in NZ. Yes, some of the common areas are a bit of flashback to the 90s, but I'm half hoping they don't upgrade the resort as I like the excellent value for money you get at the moment! I'm worried the price with increase with an upgrade! My only minor grumble is that if you have to go from 4 people to a room to 5 people it's a LOT more expensive as you have to stay in a one bedroom chalet. So when there are 5 of us I stay elsewhere which is a shame. Dave :)

Beautiful surroundings and very reasonable prices for meals. Always friendly staff. Never fail to enjoy our stopover at Wairakei. Highly recommend a stay over at this lovely establishment.

we made the booking 6 weeks in advance. We kept getting the reply… someone will contact you to confirm.

we had to keep calling them to confirm if we still had a booking.

Loved staying here! Loved all the pools and spa pools! We had a great time! The room was excellent for the price we got. Thank you for making it so affordable for us to stay at an amazing place!

Was great family friendly resort with everything on 1 site. Pools and playground were a bug hit with the kids. Lovely restaurant as well.

Rooms were tidy enough, but dated. Passageways and service areas worn. Great heated pool. Dining service very slow — over an hour between entree and mains made us all feel very flat. Plenty of staff, just poor service. Food was fine.

Great place and enjoyable food. Pool was excellent. Unfortunately the beds are not good. They are very bouncy. It was very hot when we arrived and there is no air con in the rooms. We had the ceiling fan going our entire stay but it didn't do much to cool us down.

Rooms were clean and the pool and spa where very nice. Staff were friendly. The resort has plenty of facilities to keep most people happy. I loved the fact that you can still play tennis at night as there are lights which are easily accessible.

We went for a reunion and the staff went out of their way to make it a fabulouse experience from the way they personalized the decorations on the tables and dressed the function room. Stunning! They staff went out of their way with service and food. Our rooms were comfortable and the cost was reasonable and exceeded our expectations.

Decent place to stay. Staff wasn't that friendly and didn't feel like welcoming. Place is bit isolated. They have tennis court and EV car charger, but we didn't use any of these facilities.

Great place for people of every age range. Relaxed friendly atmosphere at all times. For the Fitness conscious there's a adequate gym plus squash and tennis courts. The family swimming pool is always well heated and good fun. Rooms are always clean and tidy. Meals are of a very high standard.

Just checked in today after a long day of travel only to be met by the rudest customer service CICI representative since we set foot in NZ. Aside from being visibily annoyed the fact that she had to check us in (despite this being her primary role as a front office staff) she spoke to both my wife & I with curt & dismissive tone even to the shock of her colleague who looked up a couple of times shocked by her attitude. She demanded credit card for check in and when we told her we didn't have an NZ credit card but we do have a NZ debit card; she demanded a credit card even though we didn't want to be charged exchange rate. When we pushed back on her assertions she was forced to admit (colleague nearly interrupted at this point) alternative in procedure. Her rudeness, unreasonable demands & general lack of customer service is nothing we have seen in recent years! We haven't stayed in Wairakei Resorts before but if the service standard is reflective of CICI's conduct; then we advise others to find an alternative choice. We have 4 nights here and depending on management response l will update the rating / review. As for CICI, the hotel should not have a customer facing representative who discriminates individuals based on the colour of their skin (I'm black) so as to be rude & demeaning from the moment we set foot through the doors. I am deeply shocked this happens in NZ & even more so in a 4* resort such as this.

Loved it. Great location out of town, so quiet and comfortable, friendly, helpful but professional staff, cleaning staff did an outstanding job, facilities too numerous to use entirely in the 3 days we were there, golf, if you want it, but most of all the very good food available in the Phoenix restaurant, eating well with the person you love, plus very good NZ white wines. Whats not to like?

Close to The Terraces thermal pools. Only average pricing, meals expensive. Very beautiful at sunset when rabbits are out hopping around. Good pools on site too.

Lovely Resort set in very pleasant green setting next to a Golf Course. Comfortable clean room, friendly reception staff and good ambience. Tip: ask for a room that doesn't have a joining door to next room; not sound proofed.

Only stayed one night, but the room was well prepared and the resort seemed to have a lot of good options if you were staying for longer.

Wonderful resort! My family come here every summer for a few weeks, great place for the kids: heated pools and a playground with a trampoline. And for adults spa, tennis courts and the gym. Lovely resurant and cafe with delicious foods and drinks, all staff is very friendly and polite. Rooms are very clean, tidy and quiet. Overall I would recommend this to anyone as this resort is like no other!

Great place to take the kids, handy to taupo and multiple activities chose by. Rooms a bit tired but that's not necessarily a bad thing when you have young children who make a mess… and that's reflected in the price too. Hot pools are great and the playground is good for the under 5s. Grounds are well kept and the buffet was nice too. Definitely will be going back.

Roaches on our unit. Lots in the spa. Found more in our luggage when we got home. Yuck.

Fantastic place to conference! Great facilities and heaps of space. Accommodation was lovely and the staff were brilliant.
