Enjoyed our stay there. Room awesome… Service No 1… will definitely go back… right in Town everything handy.

Large rooms, most with balconies that overlook the pool or the river. Reception and restaurant staff are always very friendly. Breakfast from the menu is very good (including veg options). Do recommend, service and cleanliness is always consistent. Great location too.

Staff in reception are very hospitable helpful and polite. Bristol bar beautiful meals, and the staff going out of their way to help. Accommodation excellent as well as the staff very helpful.

Best value for money accommodation I've ever had in over 40 years of travel around NZ.

I really like this hotel, corridors are a little like a maze but the beds are comfy and the food is good. Getting a little tired but still comfortable.

The rooms are unnecessarily large and divided into two rooms. So quite chic, however, the bedroom lacks the window! Otherwise everything is quite good as you can see in the photos. The staff seem to be well motivated. Very friendly service. The long hallways and paths to the garage I find now not so bad, rather the missing window.

We stayed here in November of last year the staff made our stay very comfortable the rooms are beautiful had plenty of space for both me and my partner plus our 2 kids who loved the pool we had a pool view awesome balcony clean room awesome services overall we enjoyed our stay at the emerald we have booked another room for end of March thank you so much to all the staff at the emerald I highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Very nice dinner. Well lit. Nice views of the pool and tropical surrounding area. Good service. Well worth it.

Great hotel in a great location. Massive room (we had a 1brm poolside unit). Great service. Centre of town. Inexpensive for what you get. Beds are very old school soft which may not be for everyone.

Great hotel in Gisborne. The rooms are huge and the pool area is fantastic. Affordable and great for business or pleasure.

Nice rooms, balcony and pool, but shocking food service — wouldn't serve us dinner after 8.30 pm and not even room service was available after this time!

Large rooms. Pool and hot spa is decent. Gym is terrible and the corridors are oddly large. Can get lost if not paying attention. However, I always enjoy my stay.

General layout of the hotel doesn't make sense. 3 lifts on one side with long hallways to get to the Riverside rooms. Receptionist needs lessons on how to speak to people or guests better. Rather abrupt with no courtesy or mannerism. My friend wanted to visit after 8pm, only to be told that they could stay an hour? Access in and out is limited to the front entrance, yet there is many more ways avaliable. Got to room and no TV remote, air conditioning is poor, after 3 hours on, the room was still cold. Many items dusty and dirty including drinking and eating utensils. Barfridge with nothing but milk in it. Condiments very scarce. No water which should be standard in the fridge. For the size and cost of the room, it would make sense to have a small kitchen unit in them, as I don't like to have to wash cups or utensils in the bathroom sink. Same with bathroom, for the size, it could have a bath or spa. The design, size and layout of the entire hotel makes me think whoever built it, has no idea of what they were doing. Overall, I believe Emerald Hotel does not deserve 4.5 stars. Overpriced rooms that under deliver in the most basic of things, unfriendly and unapproachable staff. A real disappointment after changing my mind from Portside Hotel.

Could be a really awesome hotel — big comfy rooms, great food in the restaurant, but seriously under-staffed. Rooms on the riverside are great, but the road facing rooms are too noisy (single glazed) and you can expect to be woken up at 4am by the first truck heading to the port!

Stay here for a night in a recent work trip to Gisborne, the manager is a great friendly guy and makes you feel welcome, the room was massive they could, do have made two out of the one. The room that I was in was by the road so was woken up by the street sweeper in the morning, other than that it was a very nice place to stay. Breakfast in the morning was a great start to the day.

Stayed at the Quality Hotel Emerald for one night and I felt like the only person there. The wide corridors and dim lighting made it feel like The Overlook Hotel at times. The room I had was a massive double room which was at the front of the hotel. It had lots of furniture in it (bed, sofa, 2 chairs) all of which faced away from the wall mounted TV. The bed was 2 hard singles joined together which wasn't comfortable. Still, for one night, it was fine; although a little boy on a tricycle might have changed my mind.

My Wife and I stayed here for 2 nights. We paid $130 per night which was a "deal" rate advertised on their website. It included a full breakfast each morning. The hotel is located right on the main street of town, down one end which made it really handy for seeing the sights etc. There is full secure parking facilities on site as well. We booked an "executive suite" which is one of the cheapest rooms available. I was expecting a nice functional modern room. Well I got that in spades! The rooms are HUGE. Our room had a large king size bed in the "Lounge" which faced a big wall mounted flat screen TV. Between the bed and the TV was a coffee table with a 2 person leather sofa and a 1 person leather armchair. The balcony overlooked the internal courtyard and got lots of sun. There was a tabel and chairs on the balcony as well. The balcony was about twice the size you normally get at hotels. The bathroom was enormous. There was no bath, just a shower. There was also a second bedroom with 2 single beds and another tv. I actually thought we had the wrong room, but when I enquired, I found that almost ALL of the rooms here are set up this way! We didn't eat at the restaurant, except for breakfast — which was fine. The service was exceptional. There is free internet in all the rooms, and a free public PC in the reception — free internet is something that I've found is fairly standard overseas but not that common in NZ.

Great facilities for conferences and meetings — the accommodation looks great too.
