Twyfelfontein Country Lodge

We had a wonderful stay at the Twyfelfontein Country Lodge. If you’re traveling as a group of three, we highly recommend booking two separate rooms, as the three-person room is quite small and feels cramped for three people.
The elephant tour is absolutely worth booking to see the incredible desert-adapted elephants. The Twyfelfontein rock art site is also very close by and fascinating to visit. It’s a truly surreal and beautiful place, surrounded by dramatic rock formations which is the home of cute monkey families and desert landscapes.

This lodge has one of the most unique entrances you could imagine! You walk from the car park towards and in-between huge boulders which are adorned with historic wall carvings created by San hunter-gatherers 2000+ years ago. Truly amazing!
Tucked behind the entrance is reception, the dining area, a bar and a lovely swimming pool. Service is great and the buffet style meals offer a good choice. Excursions are unique, giving the opportunity to seek out desert adapted elephants, followed by sundowner drinks with amazing views over the stunning, wild landscape. Guides are friendly and knowledgeable. Around the site there are many different birds, and smaller local wildlife.
Rooms are located in separate buildings to one side of the lodge, a short walk away. They are compact but spotlessly clean, well equipped and peaceful. We absolutely loved our stay in this very special place.

The rooms are good but the beds are small for 2 people. And our friends had little squirel friend while they were sleeping. Which was a little scary for them. The food options are limited, didn’t like the foods that much.

Staying at Twyfelfontein Country Lodge feels like stepping into a fairytale, almost as if you were walking into a beautifully designed and luxurious version of The Flintstones. The setting is truly unique, with the lodge built among stunning red rock formations and the different cabins perfectly blended into the landscape. The property also features a lovely common area with a pool, a lobby, a bar and a restaurant.
At the bar you can enjoy a drink while taking in the views, and the restaurant, located on the upper level, offers breakfast, lunch and dinner in buffet format. Everything was of genuinely good quality, with plenty of variety and very tasty dishes. The service deserves a special mention because the staff are incredibly attentive, helpful and always making sure you have everything you need.
During our stay we joined an excursion in Damaraland to search for desert elephants and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We were taken in a 4x4 across wild terrain until we reached an open area where we were lucky enough to see several elephant herds in complete freedom, including mothers with their calves, all surrounded by a breathtaking landscape. Our guide drove slowly so that we could fully enjoy the experience. Afterwards we stopped to watch a magical sunset while they prepared a small picnic for us before heading back to the lodge.
The rooms are comfortable and clean, each with a small terrace with two chairs, a good bed and an ensuite bathroom.

The only advantage of that the lodge is that it is very well located near to the engravings site. However the rooms are not very confortable (very high Price /quality ratio). No fridge in the room which is quite unusual at this price level. Very noisy in the morning when all the cars are coming. And the place is very impersonal.
Anyway I have to mention that the dinner buffet is very good.
I would not recommend to stay more than 1 night here.

Location is great, rooms are nice, although our bed was very small and hard. The Restaurant has an amazing view, lunch was good. We didn't like the dinner buffet very much (2 nights) Very nice pool area and the dry river drive with Reinholt was amazing! We saw a lot of elephants and we watched the sun go down enjoying a drink and some snacks.

My husband and I spent 2 nights here — the position of the lodge is its strong point : at the foot of the mountains and very close to main point of interests we wanted to visit : the rock-engravings art, the Burnt Mountain, the Organ Pipe, and the Damara Village.
The lodge is “old style” and mainly for groups ; we actually prefer smaller lodges but the rooms were clean, comfortable and equipped with anything you needed.
Another strong point is the food : even though it was always buffet, both breakfast and dinner had an amazing variety of really good food.
We found a lovely staff, smiling and always helpful. We had a problem with the safe and they immediately fixed it.
We joined the ephemeral river drive and we could see the desert adapted elephants that we missed 25 years ago when we came to Damaraland : we strongly suggest this activity and if the driver/ guide is Alexander, “fun is guaranteed “.

The stay at this hotel exceeded all expectations!
The staff is very polite and attentive, always ready to help.
The rooms are clean, cozy and have everything you need for a comfortable stay.
The breakfasts are delicious and varied, with quality products.
The hotel grounds are well-kept, the atmosphere is calm and pleasant.
I will definitely come back here again and recommend it to everyone!

This place was beautiful! Stunning lodge situated in the rocks. The restaurant and bar area is gorgeous to sit in with lovely decor and sweeping views of Damaraland. The pool area has a waterfall amongst the rockery where colourful lizards hang out. Our children loved this! Rooms were lovely, staff were lovely, food was a buffet and was delishous. Really loved our stay here!

Stunning location and loved the restaurant and bar design, and the general landscaping.
We didn’t have much of a friendly welcome at the desk, compared to other places we’d stayed.
The rooms are let down by the lack of door between the room and the bathroom, no one wants to hear someone else opening their bowels, not to mention the smell! Also poor lighting overall (couldn’t work out how to turn on the ceiling light that was integral to the fan). The shower was fab and the beds really comfortable. Aircon worked well and was quiet. However the door felt insecure.
We loved the elephant drive, even though we didn’t get back to the lodge until almost 7.30pm, which didn’t leave much time to shower and relax before dinner. A warning would have prepared us.
Our dinner was disappointing. Only 2 menu options — fish or meat. Our main course was served before the starter and the waitress struggled to understand this. Of course we sent it back to await our starter. So when the main course came back out, it was hard and dry. Then the dessert arrived — clearly bought in as it was still wrapped in plastic! Made quite a mess trying to remove it at the table.
Such as shame as it could have been a great stay.
The breakfast made up for dinner. Lots of selection at the buffet, with a chef to cook eggs however you’d like them.
I’d stay here again for the location but hope they listen to other feedback.

The lodge is nice and clean. Some local specialties were missing from the menu. Only Western meals were offered. Polite service. Wifi offered at a surcharge.

Twyfelfontein Country Lodge impressed us with friendly efficiency in booking (despite short notice).
Exceptional hospitality was the golden thread through our stay, from welcoming drinks to luggage handling, amazing cool airconditioned rooms (much appreciated in Dec), and friendly and personal service at buffet meals.
The Nature drive to see the desert adapted elephants, was made extra memorable by the accomplished guide, whose patience, attentiveness and respect for nature allowed us to even see the two little elephant calves.
We have visited several lodges in Namibia and this one is a highlight.

Lovely lodge close to the rock carvings. Comfortable bar/lounge with views. Nice rooms with small veranda. Food in the restaurant was good. You can get a guide to show you around the ancient rock engravings which is very interesting. Recommended.

Really enjoyed our stay, the place is well equipped, food was good, staff were excellent and the sundowners drive was amazing. Not many places where the entire restaurant staff break into song at the end of the shift, something truly apprecieted. There chef with one eye (sorry I have forgotten his name) was an absolute star — cracking jokes throughout service and really going above and beyond. Never been a fan of the self serve buffet, which got a little busy when buses arrived, but having said that this was a superb buffet. If anyone is visiting and not taking advantage of the sundowner drive, think again — it is amazing and we can also highlight a really knowledgeable guide. Some amazing sightings, of course, including the elephants.
Should also mention the rock art right in front of reception which is wonderfully undersold — literally thousands of years of history and we saw so many people walk right past it. The real highlight for us was the wildlife around the pool, huge variety of birds, dassies on the lawn and those amazing agama doing their push ups on the rocks meant you could easily just spend a day sat there watching them. The pool is lovely as well.
Some minor niggles: It's 2024 — charging for Wi-Fi only available in the lodge? Seriously? Only place in Namibia we had to pay extra to access the world.

Our second stay at Twyfelfontain and we were not disappointed! Well on the contrary. This time we were staying at the VIP Room. This is more of a luxurious residency than a room. Own pool, a lot of space great view, own security guard, wine offered by the house and many more.
Unfortunately we could only stay one night! We will come back!

From some of the reviews I nearly did not go to this establishment but I am so glad I did. I found myself wanting a few days downtime in a hectic schedule and changed from a long drive to staying here for two nights — fabulous setting, wonderful staff, food of excellent standard and plenty of it and just a great unwind. Congrats to you all for keeping up the smiles. Swimming pool a treat in the heat and the ambiance was just perfect. HIGHLY recommend.

Went twice. The first time, I stayed in the newly renovated units, and there was no hot water. Amenities were seriously lacking, and the rates are absolutely ridiculous.
Second time around I just stopped for a day visit to have lunch and see the rock paintings.
They stole bags out of my car, in the middle of nowhere. They opened the canopy and removed my bags and tech devices. The manager said he can't do anything.
If you stop, lock your car. Look at the rock paintings and leave!
