Sophienhof Lodge

With very grateful and happy memories of our stay at Sophienhof, we would like to share our experience with the lodge and its wonderful crew.
My girlfriend took me on a very adventurous and romantic round trip through Namibia and Botswana—a lifelong dream of hers. I couldn’t imagine a better moment to ask her to marry me. So I emailed Sophienhof.
To make it personal and special, I asked Sophienhof to arrange a very romantic picnic with a sunset view in a place where it could be just the two of us.
They offered us a private, small game drive on their impressive property, with a lovely, humorous, and friendly guide. He took us to the most amazing and peaceful place we could imagine. Then they left us with a beautifully decorated picnic table, delicious food, and champagne. There was only one thing left for me to do—and luckily she said YES :)
Together we look back on a very special moment in our lives, shared with a lovely crew and a beautiful lodge, resulting in wonderful memories. THAT is what Sophienhof is capable of.

We had a wonderful stay at Sophienhof Lodge. So peaceful, great food and very friendly staff. A special thank you to Willem, he recommended and made an appointment with Dr Burger at Outjo, when I was a bit under the weather. Thank you, Willem, you walked the extra mile for us. Highly recommended place to stay!

We stayed in Sophienhof 3 times in October 2025 camping on the first occasion (on our way to Etosha National Park) and in a motel styled room twice (before and after Twfelfontien). On each occason we were greeted by warm and friendly staff and felt very much at home. We must thank in particular reception manager Willem who organised for my wife to see a wonderful doctor in Outjo (and checked on us several times throughout the afternoon and the next morning), after she had a fall near to Twyfelfontein and badly injured her finger. We highly recommend this lovely homestead just 10kms outside Outjo.

My wife and I rented a 4x4 from Bertie, the owner, and we just wanted to write a review on here to say he is one of the friendliest and nicest guys we've met in Namibia!
Just such a lovely person and we had a great experience in Etosha all thanks to him.

Great place to go. There’s an awesome game drive in the evening and animals show up at the pond at night while we are having supper.

As hard as I try, I can't fault this place. I really enjoyed my stay. The food was delicious! Thank you Cecilia! The service in general was just an absolute pleasure. The game drive is an absolute must!

Excellent atmopshere from start to finish. We camped on the lawn and had an amazing experience with wild roaming, while we were braaiing. Clean and stunning facilities all around. Thank you Willem for welcoming us and being such a great & friendly host. Already planning our next visit to Sophienhof!

Sophienhof is an absolute gem of a retreat. The chalet was perfect for a couples retreat, Willem was an excellent host an looked after all our needs. The roaming buck and giraffe added to our stay and we will definitely return for a spoil.

A beautiful piece of paradise! We enjoyed a 3 night stay. Willem is a great ambassador for Sophienhof and takes great care of the guests. Amazingly there are Nyalas that walk around the dining area and trim the lawns! What a special place!

We really enjoyed our stay at Sophienhof. We saw many different animals at the game drive and at the various waterholes, it was a big adventure for the children as well. The staff and owners are very hospitable and so friendly and the cuisine at the restaurant was outstanding and made with the freshest home grown ingredients. We will for sure come visit again. Thank you for an excellent experience.

We truly loved our time in Sophienhof Lodge. We stayed in the large villa. We planned on staying one night and ended up staying for three.
The staff were awesome and helpful. The game drive was great with Nico patiently explaining everything. I definitely recommend.

Great staff, meals and activities. Could have stayed much longer. There are no larger game like lions, leopards or elephants, but there is an abundance of wildlife and a game drive is entertaining. They also have e-motorbikes which are great fun for getting around the vast land.

Incredible staff! Everyone working there made our stay lovely. They truly care about your well-being. The dinner is also very nice! The setting is cozy and you chan chose if you want your own table, or sit together with the other guests.
The game drive they offer was one of the best experiences we had in Namibia. We saw lots of different animals and some surprises. The guide was absolutely lovely and you felt how he loved his job and the animals. 💖
The rooms are very clean, but there‘s weird smell lingering in them, if you don‘t air out the room constantly. Other than that, the room has all the basics you need (with soap! ) They don‘t clean the room during the stay, what was a bit unfortunate.
The location is 1 hour drive away from Etosha. We had two days at Etosha so it was alright for us. There is a little hill hike in the area.
Sadly the owner of the lodge came off as a bit unfriendly.
All in all you get a good deal for the money you pay. I recommend staying here. 😊

Very pleasant stay at Sophienhof. Thank you for accomodating our last-minute reservation. Rooms was very comfortable and folding beds were installed for our children.
All lodge staff was very welcoming and helpful, food was excellent. We also really appreciated the game drive and the variety of animals.

Great setting, very nice bungalows, but the most important: very relaxed atmosphere and very nice staff that know how to deal with foreigners.
The game drive – and especially the driver – is highly recommended. The area is very big and lots of animals to see. The lovely driver is very enthusiastic and you can feel how much he likes his job and the animals.
From ostrich and gepard feeding to seeing girafes and one hippo (they are waiting for the 2nd hippo at the moment) and rhinos as well.
Also to mention the very delicious German bread that is baked there and offered for breakfast.
