Omaruru Game Lodge in Q&A

Information is provided based on reviews and may contain inaccuracies.

What is the location of Omaruru Game Lodge, and what is nearby?

The lodge is set in a wonderful location that allows guests to experience the complete tranquility and beauty of Namibia's nature. A distinctive feature of its location is its proximity to a waterhole visited by dozens of animals, ranging from antelopes and zebras to giraffes and rhinos. Guests note that the animals are just steps away from the restaurant and lobby. The property also features its own private airstrip for light aircraft.

How far is the nearest airport?

Windhoek Airport is located approximately a 4-hour drive from the lodge.

How polite is the staff, and what is the quality of service at Omaruru Game Lodge?

The staff is described as exceptionally friendly, warm, professional, and hospitable, treating guests like family members. Many reviews express special gratitude to guides Clarence and Kahn for their profound knowledge of nature and wildlife. Overall, the service is rated as top-notch, although one guest mentioned a rare instance of inattention from a poolside waitress.

What dining options are offered at the hotel?

Guests speak highly of the dinners, frequently mentioning the delicious 4-course menu and traditional Kalahari coffee. Breakfasts are described as satisfactory or delicious. Some visitors note that dishes can be overly peppery. Meals are often enjoyed with a view of the waterhole where animals are fed.

How reliable is the Wi-Fi at the lodge?

The Wi-Fi speed at the hotel is slow; however, some guests note that high-speed internet is hardly necessary in a safari setting.

How is the soundproofing in the rooms?

Soundproofing in some rooms is poor, which may allow noise from neighboring rooms to be heard. Guests also mention plumbing noise (bubbling and gurgling in the pipes) when using the shower or sink.

What is the condition of the rooms and furniture?

Opinions on the rooms are divided: some find them cozy, clean, and charming (thatched-hut style), while others consider them outdated and in need of major renovation. There are complaints about uncomfortable, creaky beds and old air conditioners that blow directly onto the bed. The overall quality of finishes and furnishings in some rooms is considered basic and not commensurate with the price.

What kind of view do the rooms offer?

Many rooms offer wonderful views of the waterhole and animals, which may even fall asleep right outside your window.

How clean are the rooms and the property?

Most guests note that the rooms are very clean and well-maintained. The lodge grounds are described as lush, green, and well-kept. However, there was a comment regarding the swimming pool, which one guest felt was not properly cleaned.

Does the hotel have a swimming pool, and what condition is it in?

The lodge features a swimming pool with sun loungers. However, some guests were dissatisfied with its cleanliness, noting cleaning equipment left in the water during morning hours and the overall unappealing condition of the water.

What entertainment and activities are available for guests?

The main attraction is the game drives (safari tours), which come highly recommended for the opportunity to see elephants, hippos, rhinos, and other wildlife. Guests can watch animals being fed at the waterhole and even pet rhinos or giraffes. There is also a feeding session for a cheetah kept in an enclosure.

Is the hotel suitable for families with children?

The hotel is well-suited for family vacations and children (especially ages 5 to 18). Children thoroughly enjoy the opportunity for close interaction with the animals, including feeding and hands-on contact, which makes their stay truly exciting.

What is the overall atmosphere at the lodge, and are there any controversial aspects?

Overall, the atmosphere is very warm and inspiring. However, opinions on the concept are somewhat divided: while some guests are thrilled by the close proximity to wildlife, others find it unnatural and compare the lodge to a zoo. Particular criticism is directed at keeping a cheetah in a small enclosure, which some describe as inhumane.

5 Stars for Omaruru Game Lodge!
Our stay at Omaruru Game Lodge was absolutely perfect.
🐘 Magnificent Wildlife.
The wildlife viewing here is truly in a league of its own. You don’t even have to leave the lodge. Seeing the animals up close in their natural habitat was breathtaking. Whether it was the graceful giraffes or the powerful rhinos, the "magnificent" label is an understatement!
🍽️ Culinary Excellence.
The food was, quite simply, amazing. Every meal was a gourmet event. The presentation was beautiful. It’s wonderful to find a lodge that balances rustic charm with high-end dining.
🌟 World-Class Service.
What really ties the whole experience together is the awesome staff. Friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.

What a wonderful lodge. So comfortable so cute. Wifi is slow. But you don't actually need it. You have fantastic safari. If you are lucky you will go on safari with Clearance. Amazing guide. And rhinos will fall asleep in front of your window. I love this place inspite of some little drawbacks like poor soundproof but I was lucky my neighbors were adults and quite respectful on evening hours. Dinners could have been better. But again, it's not the most important. Thank you. Recommend this place.
