Stayed for 1 night in the campsite (Not community, the lodge-adjacent campsites)
Regardless, one of the most picturesque phenomenal campsites we stayed in across our entire 11 day tour through Namibia.
Absolutely amazing service, beautifully clean and well architected and tasteful ablutions and overall facilities.
The campsite lodge staff was splendid (thank you so so much to Stanley, the best bartender and host around) ; the food and beer was splendid and just what one needs after a long day of driving.
Finally, the vistas in the protected sheltered mountain valley are as beautiful in the morning as the sunset in the evening.
Cannot recommend more to those traveling through Kaokoland.
I visited Khowarib Lodge and was deeply disappointed to experience blatant discrimination. As a Namibian local, I was refused service while foreign tourists were welcomed without hesitation. This kind of treatment is unacceptable anywhere, but especially in a country that prides itself on hospitality and unity.
Khowarib Lodge markets itself as a gateway to Kaokoland and a celebration of local culture yet it excludes the very people who live here. If you’re considering staying here, ask yourself: do you support businesses that deny service based on nationality?
We deserve better. Locals deserve respect. And Khowarib Lodge needs to be held accountable.

We stayed three nights at Khowarib Lodge as a couple, in a tent camp. Our safari tent was spacious, with a covered terrace, a table and chairs. Inside there were comfortable beds and a bathroom with a stone washbasin and a round mirror. Simple, but really cozy. From the lodge we set off on a safari to see the desert elephants. Even the drive there, along sandy tracks and past rugged mountains, was an experience in itself. After a coffee break with a dreamy view over the valley, we rode in an open safari vehicle through the riverbed of the Hoanib, and then there they were: desert elephants, right in the shade of the trees! Some even took a little nap in the sand. Highly recommended!
