Beautiful setting with great food, but service could improve…
The Solitaire Mountain Lodge is a lovely place to stay. We especially appreciated the beautifully landscaped grounds: plenty of striking cacti and desert plants that give the lodge a unique charm.
The food was a real highlight. Whoever is behind the kitchen clearly knows what they’re doing. There was a wide variety of dishes, including thoughtful vegetarian and vegan options, all prepared with care and creativity. Dinner was excellent. Breakfast, however, was fairly average… nothing particularly memorable.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, though not luxurious. They offer everything you need for a pleasant stay.
The staff was friendly, but compared to other lodges we visited, the service felt less attentive. We often found ourselves looking for someone to assist us, which may point to a training or staffing issue.
Overall, it’s a beautiful lodge with great potential. With a bit more focus on guest service, it could be truly exceptional.

When we arrived, it was already late — around seven or eight in the evening. We dropped by the restaurant for dinner, but perhaps because of how things are managed in Namibia, the dining schedule seemed quite different from what we’re used to in other countries. We didn’t really understand at first; we were served drinks quite quickly, but it took about an hour and a half before the food finally arrived.
We had been traveling the whole day, feeling tired and hungry. Maybe it was due to poor communication, but in hindsight, the better approach would have been to ask for our hotel rooms first — so we could shower, unpack, and rest for a bit — and then come back for dinner an hour later. That would have been ideal. But at that moment, we assumed the food would be ready in about half an hour.
Unfortunately, it turned out that their kitchen was in chaos that night. Some orders were mixed up, and others were delayed. We eventually gave some feedback to the staff, but we also understood that it wasn’t really their fault. The service staff were actually doing their best, and we sympathized with their situation. In the end, we didn’t mind too much and were still happy to spend the night there.
I can only say that on a road trip like this, we basically move from one place to another every day — passing through, encountering good and bad experiences alike — and we just let them go. By the time we leave each stop, our hearts are light again.

This place was a dream. The best place we stayed at during our holidays.
People were kind and food is delicious.
The location and the view from the rooms is unbelievable.
We recommend the cheetah tour since it's very animal friendly and ethical. Nico was giving us great explanations and we saw the four lovely cheetahs from close.

Solitaire Mountain Lodge is set in a stunning location at the foot of the mountains, in a lush valley full of wildlife. During our stay, we spotted wild hogs, ostriches, and even giraffes coming to drink right in front of the lodges. From the pool, you can enjoy an incredible view over the valley and watch a breathtaking sunset.
The dining area is beautiful, and the dishes served were absolutely delicious – one of the best dinners of our entire trip to Namibia. The staff are friendly, attentive, and make you feel truly welcome. An unforgettable stay in every way!

Our stay was nothing short of being literally amazing.
The scenic view from the room's terrace, and even through the windows from the bed when waking up in the morning, seeing the endless grasslands and warthogs coming for the waterhole, looked just as the pictures we knew from documentaries.
Even when we went for the famous Solitaire apple pie from the bakery 5 minutes away, we had Giraffes crossing our way.
The rooms were a fine blend of comfort and true safari feel — cozy and spacious.
The staff is absolutely friendly and helpful on any request we had.
A special thanks goes to Donato, the Chef de Cuisine, truly an absolute gentleman. Not only did he explain the several different ways on how to prepare a meal the way his family traditionally does and giving insights on his cultural background, he also had a vast knowledge of how to give the meals a certain special twist, to give us a full southern African food experience. There are also vegetarian and gluten free options on the menu.
If you don't want to come for the nature experience, at least stop by for the food and the people.

Had an absolutely incredible stay here in Sepetember! The staff were great and super firendly. Food was delicious and rooms were perfect. It was the start to our trip in Namibia, and couldn't have asked for anything better. I enjoyed my afternoons sitting by the pool watching the baboons and warthogs at the watering hole.
This was also the hotel my now Fiance proposed at, so it will always be a special place :)

We had an amazing stay at Solitaire Mountain Lodge! The pool was fantastic, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The highlight was definitely the cheetah safari – an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend this place for anyone seeking a unique and relaxing getaway!

This is really desert place so only desert around this place. Very impressive especially during evening when looking arriving darkness and the sky.
After renamed now its name is Solitaire Mountain Lodge. After arrival we have got welcome drinks, also coffee was served. We stayed two nights in family room for 4 adults. Nice room, enough space, also kettle and coffee / tea set offered inside the room. The whole staff was extremely helpful.
The breakfast was for us absolutely enough, however adequate to the small size of this lodge and limited number of guests. Even taking into account that the eggs dish is prepared following the exact order of each guest. There was instant coffee but it was the only one place we stayed during our one month trip in Africa where three types of milk were served (regular, almond and oat).
And finally the most impressive – the meals served for lunch and dinner. For each day we have got different menus. We were able to order the meals between official lunch and dinner hours service, so we have got both lunch and dinner menu. We were asked if if we don't like some ingredient or spice, or if they shouldn't add something because everything is cooked on site. And these ingredients were added in really tasty and balanced way. So maybe strange – but in the middle of the desert, in the place where everything must by ordered by the staff in advance, we have got absolutely the best meals.

This is a wonderful place to stay. Easy access to all of the attractions nearby. Beautiful views and amazing food. The staff are brilliant and are happy to help with anything needed. Special thanks to Marian, Kentucky, Trust, Theophilas and the rest of the team.

Fantastic place. Somewhat central to other attractions such as the dunes. We were especially impressed with the food! Different menu every day, with many vegetarian options that were phenomenal!

Beautiful location and vibe with the most friendly, helpful and attentive staff. Great food very inclusive of vegetarian/vegan and gluten free diets. Special shout out to Katrina, who was really fantastic, and Thomas and the chef for allowing us to adapt the menu to our dietary requirements. Such lovely people!

The location was perfect, quiet and beautiful. Stunning sunsets and wildlife. We were the only guests end of May, but were warmly welcomed. The service was very friendly and attentive.
It was not a problem to get dinner that night, vegetarian options were available. Even the bar was open for us. Breakfast was also very good, full choice and that for only 2 people. One of the best stays in Namibia. Only downside were the mosquitoes and missing mosquito nets, luckily we had our own.

We had a fantastic stay at the desert farm. Beautiful setting, loved the outdoor garden and the pool at the end of a hot day of driving was absolute bliss. Rooms didn't have a bar fridge which would have been nice to cool down water for say trips. Restaurant had a good variety of meat/veg options.

Very nice buildings and the people are friendly, but it seems to be missing warmth.
The rooms are big and clean. The beds are 160 cm wide with standard covers that are too small for two adults.
There is a nice swimming pool with deckchairs around it.
There are two waterpoints for (wild) animals and we saw some jackals and (after dark) a group of 30 or so wildebeest. We were told also zebra and wild cheetah frequent the waterpoints.
We booked this location because there was a possibility to rent bikes. On arrival we were told the bikes were not in good condition.
We did do the cheetah tour which was ok. As in other places the cheetahs were born in captivity and do not hunt. They were fed just that morning and were resting. The driver drove his truck towards the cats to get them to move which disturbed me.
The farm belongs to the same owner as the lodge, fuel station and bakery some 7 kms away. Only cash payment is accepted but if needed you can pay with credit card for the Farm at the fuel station. There is also an atm at the fuel station.
All in all a nice location for a night but it could be much better.
PS the bakery is REALLY worth a visit.
