Teufelskrallen Lodge

The Teufelskrallen Lodge was the first stop on our trip. It is a reasonable distance from Windhoek Airport, can be reached via tarred roads and has six extravagant accommodations, so-called tented lodges. From the main house with the reception it is another 3 km along a sandy track to the actual lodges, but it is absolutely worth it. Near lodge there is an artificial waterhole, where animals regularly come during the day. The terraces of lodges and are the ideal place to observe them.

We recently stayed here for two nights.
Beautiful lodge with very cozy interior in the rooms and at main building. Familiar atmosphere and nice and attentive stuff as well. Breakfast and dinner are incredibly good.

Wow. What a start to our vacation. Having Springbocks roaming around the sealed tent. Having the view. Fron every room. The sky. The food. Everything awesome.

Stunning location. Very friendly staff. Delicious food. The tent is very comfortable and remote. Nights were very cold. Perhaps off a hot water bottle to take after dinner? And no hot water. Would still recommend a visit for the experience. The guided walk and sundowner were also very good. And you can. Folllow some trails independently from the tents into the desert with some opportunities to see the game.

If you stay in this lodge you will certainly remember it. The tents are built on stilts and located on the top of small dunes which gives you superb views on either side of your lodging. The “hotel” only have six tents so no over crowding! Some tents cater for 2 and are a bit smaller but have the advantage of having a terrace on either side (others seemed bigger and désigne to accommodate a small family). Out tents were very comfortable and had all the amenities needed for a one night stop. The shower and the toilet are located outside at the end of a “pontoon” so best to have a shower in the afternoon with daylight, the view from the Throne is impressive! There are only 2 minor things that some travellers might be aware of: it’s a bit of hike from the car to the lodge (up the dune) with the luggage can be tricky for some. The restaurant, pool and reception are located a short drive away from the tents and driving back in the dark might be an issue for some. Otherwise the restaurant offered nice menu and staff were friendly throughout.

Great lodge in the Kalahari Desert. Beautiful, luxurious tents with an amazing view. You have a lot of privacy. We saw a wonderful starry sky and the Milky Way from our terrace. The staff is very friendly. We went on a morning walk and sundowner game drive with guide Etosha. He shared with pleasure and humor his many knowledge about the area and the animals. Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding.

What an amazing stay! Wish we had stayed longer! The tent was absolutely gorgeous, the bathroom/shower is attached to your tent via a short walkway, it offers amazing views all round but especially in the bathroom, whether you're on the toilet or enjoying a relaxing shower the window offers a lovely view whilst doing both! Waking up in the morning to the sound of birds, following the gorgeous view from the bed (we left our curtains open to fully enjoy this! ). We luckily got to see some Antelope in the morning just outside of our tent! The restaurant and reception is a short drive of 3km. We got to enjoy an evening meal and breakfast within the tent rate. The evening meal was delicious nonetheless but did seem a little basic, but I will say the salmon we had was beautiful and I'm really not a fishy person! The breakfast however was absolutely devine! My partner and I would highly recommend the Teufelskrallen special, generous portion size, and absolutely amazing quality, the sausage was incredible! The tents feel safe and secure as there is a security guard patrolling the area during the area. Overall we would highly recommend this lodge if you are ever in the area!

Perhaps a more correct rating would be 3 stars, but based on the very extraordinary kind service and warm welcome, we enjoyed the stay and would be happy to visit again.
It´s inconvenient the lodge is approx. 3 km from the tents where you sleep during night and that the place is quite close to a not very nice / interesting town. Also, that guards are present in the camp at night (that they are needed).
But additionally on the good side; very fast internet, nice dinner and nice pool area. "
Perfect stop close to main route to Windhoek.

Stayed here in October 2022. Weather was lovely. Hot days, cool evenings. The 'lodge' was lovely to sleep in. The outlook over the Kalahari was special. We did a walking safari which was excellent. We got surprisingly close to giraffe and it was fun tracking various animals from their footprints.
Breakfasts were enormous, dinners sumptuous and lunch casual. Thank you to all the wonderfull staff who made our stay so memorable.

Teufelskrallen Lodge is conveniently located close to the B1, the main route connecting Windhoek to the Southern part of Namibia, about three hours drive from Windhoek. The main facilities are just a short drive from the B1 while the six tent houses are about 3 km drive away on the lodge‘s huge premises. Our tent house was beautifully designed, perfectly clean, and very comfortable. The bathroom with shower, toilet, and wash basin can be reached by a short walkway.
The view is amazing — we saw grazing impala antelopes just below our verandah, and weaver birds building a nest right at our tent were fun to watch, too. Sundowner drives of about 2.5 hours are offered as well as guided and non-guided walking tours. We saw various types of antelopes, giraffes, wildebeests, ostriches, and many different birds.
Breakfast and dinner were included in our room rate and served in the main building, everything was freshly prepared. Lunch and drinks from the bar can be ordered a la carte. Staff was very friendly and attentive.
Overall, it was a very pleasant stay, the highlight being the amazing tent houses.

We enjoyed both the guided morning walk and the afternoon game drive with Martin, a friendly and competent guide that can explain you all ablit the animals and plants.
The tents are located close to the top of a dune with a wide look over the Kalahari. Once or twice a couple of springboks passed by very close to the tent.
You can also easily take a self-guided walk as there are no large predators.

My husband and I stayed at the Teufelskrallen Lodge early June 2021. We had a fabulous time. Even during the pandemic, the lodge staff amazingly friendly, professional, and provided a welcome start to our safari in Namibia (and the Kalahari region). On our second day, Johannes Gariseb guided us through an all-day hike through the area with a full-course breakfast in the dunes and a fabulous picnic lunch at a rest area along the hike. We ended up staying at their remote overnight camp which included a swimming pool. Although it is winter and too cold for the pool, we loved sitting in the sun, watching the sunset, enjoying a sundowner with various animals visiting the waterhole below are campsite. The rondoval at this site was amazing with views to match. Dinner was prepared by Johannes and what a feast. The next morning, we returned to our "tented" rooms to enjoy the view and prepare for our departure. Teufelskrallen Lodge rooms are located on the dunes while the main lodge and restaurant are a vehicle ride away. The restroom facility at our "room/tent" was an outdoor facility and even though it is winter and cold, the hot water was fabulous. There are numerous animal sightings from both the room and the hikes, Eland, wildebeast, zebras, ostriches, antelope, wonderful sightings of birds and even insects. During this time of Pandemic our expectations were low but Teufelskrallen staff and amenities lived up to their ratings. We absolutely would return.

This was our final stop in Namibia and a perfect location for the short 2 hour trip up the B1 to Windhoek. The tents were beautiful and had a lovely view for watching a cracking sunset. A mixture of windows and nets allowed us to keep it (relatively) cool and bug free. The bathroom facilities were good with hot water and a pretty exceptional view from the throne.
However…
The reception area is a 1.5km drive away and just did not match the standard of the accommodation. It was dark and completely devoid of atmosphere (at least play some background music in the evenings), the food here was OK but a little samey with over-facing portions. The pool was pleasant but didn’t have umbrellas for the sun loungers making it challenging to escape the sun.
More irritatingly I was overcharged compared to my Agoda quotation, when I raised this it was pushed off twice, once ‘we’ll sort this in the morning’ secondly ‘I forgot and need to call someone’ nothing more happened and now I’ll have to deal with it through Agoda when I get home.
Would I stay here again, almost certainly for the location and accommodation quality but it could really do with revamping its reception/pool/dining areas (and dining offerings! ).
