The Farm Shop
Reviews of The Farm Shop
The owner is a disgrace, shook my daughter's head around upon arrival after she petted the dog.
Strict rules, if you use the aircon add N$150 to your accommodation, if you drink a beer from your own supply there is a N$ 3500 fine.
Steak is N$ 220 and the moment you touch any of the side dishes you can add N$ 60.
The beds are old and the place is run down.
Got hair in my food two times at dinner, the owner "Ulf" just took my napkin and wiped the hair out of plate, saying: "It is better to have hair in the food than food in the hair.
Next morning, breakfast, which only includes toasted bread and butter, there was hair in the butter. The owner was wearing the same clothes as the day before.
This place is an absolute disgrace and a completely wrong impression for anyone visiting from outside of Namibia, it creates the wrong impression about what Namibia really is.
The dogs are free to roam the kitchen. The dogs were making a noise the whole night through right outside the room resulting in no sleep.
The owner and his wife joined for a drink outside, gave us some Amarula just so we can find it on out bill the next morning.
There are no invoices, no receipts, all cash. Mr Tax man should investigate this too.
DO NOT STAY HERE.
The hosts were so kind and hospitable — we showed up hungry out of the blue and were served an exceptional spread and a fresh salad from the garden. Highly recommend stopping or staying here if you’re in the area!

In order to run a hospitality business, the safety of the guests is an absolute must. And in this respect Farm Shop fails utterly. In order to ensure safety against potential thieves from nearby Grootfontein the hosts have around 6 very large dogs, among those a great dane and a couple of rottweilers. Inside the main house the dogs give a false impression of being friendly, but outside they turn into vicious attackers. While the owner showed us the rooms, one of our family of 7, a 70 year old woman, stayed in the yard, just a few meters away from the group and was very suddenly and unprovoked attacked by the dogs and bitten quite badly in the arm. The owner, Ulf, declared it was not serious, but went to get his first aid kit and dapped the wound with a bit of antiseptic. The wound was very deep (see photo), and we had to clean it more thoroughly and dress it.
Ulf was not very forthcoming or apologetic about the incident but insisted that the dogs were there for the safety of the farm and us — without them our cars might have been burgled. Honestly, we would have preferred that to a dog attack.
There was no compensation or apology for the dog attack, on the contrary he implied that we were exaggerating and being fussy. On arrival back in Denmark she was admitted to hospital and given antibiotics by drop. The hospital asked for proof that the dogs had been vaccinated against rabies, and after a long debate with Ulf we managed to get vaccination papers for 5 of the 6 dogs.
