Hotel by the Red Canal offers a tranquil retreat within a short distance of Mandalay’s urban core. It’s a place to unwind after exploring the city’s rich cultural heritage. Situated approximately three kilometers from the city center, the hotel provides a serene setting while remaining accessible to Mandalay’s attractions. The hotel provides a discreet yet attentive experience, blending local character with modern amenities.
We were looking for somewhere to splurge a little after staying in more basic hotels on our travels. This is a nice hotel, but it is definitely geared to groups, as others have said, which makes for a less than tranquil experience. Guests were loudly talking outside our door before 6.30am. We went to breakfast at 7am — it was completely chockers — my husband waited behind a man toasting 14 slices of bread! No smoking is allowed in rooms thankfully but lots of people were smoking just outside the breakfast room and the smoke was wafting in.
The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean and well appointed with coffee and tea.
The hotel is not in the liveliest of locations but it is not a problem since we downloaded Grab and called a tuk tuk to take us wherever we needed to go — very easy and allowed us to avoid haggling all the time.
