Riad Shama & Traditions

Room and facilities were good. Using the pool to cool down on a hot day was excellent. A bit far to walk to the Médina.

We stayed at Riad Shama Suites & Spa from 11/03-13/03/25.
Riad Shama Suites & Spa is a lovely historic building with friendly and helpful staff.
It was only a few minutes’ walk from the riad to the Madrasa Ben Youssef and the Secret Garden both are worth visiting. The Jemaa el-Fna Square is about 20-25 mins walk.
It cost 100 dirhams from the near by taxi to the airport.
The riad needs some improvements as its beginning to show numbers of cracks on the lounge area walls, bedroom and the bathroom walls, and stained floors.
The bathroom needs a shower screen or minimally a curtain as it was very difficult to take a shower without water seeping outside the shower area into the floor.
The bathroom soap dispenser does not work, but we are thankful for providing us a handwash liquid bottle.
The area surrounding the riad looks rather rundown and not appealing but this is out of riad's control.
Please note: there are city taxes in all Moroccan cities per person per day.

On arrival at Riad Shama, we welcomed the calmness inside in comparison to the hustle and bustle of the streets outside.
We were welcomed warmly by Akram and given a tour of the Riad and a welcome glass of mint tea.
The hospitality of the staff continued throughout our 6 day stay. Akram and Abdul were always courteous and helpful, providing information on places to visit and helping to book trips for us. And airport transfers The Riad lady manager was also very helpful.
We had our first Hammam spa experience and that was amazing! The staff were excellent! 👌
Our room was a deluxe double but our only quibble was the steep stairwell to the bathroom although it looked grand it was very dangerous especially trying to negotiate in middle of the night! The housekeeping for our room was hit and miss and the day before we were heading home was the only time our bedding was changed and bathroom cleaned which we found unusual. This did not affect our stay but would recommend a bed change and thorough bathroom clean halfway through our stay.
The pool was too cold for a swim in February which was disappointing for me because I enjoy swimming but obviously more suitable in summer months.
We enjoyed our breakfast on the top terrace each morning and the views of the city.
Overall we both loved our first visit to Riad Shama and Marrakesh. ❤️

Very unfortunate experience. Riad suitable only for locals. Our visit started and finished on a disappointment. Riad doesn't have heating working so do not advise to stay at winter time. At summer there might be air conditioning problem so I guess similar. At night it was around 7-8 degrees and very similar in the room so almost like we were sleeping outside. I don't understated how can for anyone that be normal to sleep and pay almost 300 Euro for 3 nights. Second day we got some small extra heater but it didn't make a change in the room temperature. Because of that we got sick for the rest of our travel. Very terrible experience to go to sleep and waking up freezing. For three days they couldn't repair that! What's more frustrating they could just change our room to some without broken heating but they just don't care. They should inform guests before their stay that they will be freezing, I would never ever choose their Riad knowing that there's no heater working. Same for restaurant there was no heating so it was lovely going from freezing cold room to also cold restaurant for breakfast. We got one of the worst rooms with very low standard totally not worth its price. What's more it was very loud, could hear everything from the outside. There's are so many better places around to stay with better location. This Riad is a terrible idea for woman traveling cause around is a no civilization area with man shouting and acting like monkeys in zoo with zero manners and culture.

Riad Shama has given us a great experience of Marrakech. We were made to feel at home, with cosy room, good breakfast (the tagines were great too! ), great service whenever we needed help, and fantastic spa services. Mme Wafa, Khadija, Akram and Abdou made us feel very welcome — we want to go back!

I had a wonderful stay at Riad Shama! The hosts (Ayoub and Abdou) were incredibly welcoming and made sure every aspect of my stay was perfect! Kudos to Abdou, who went above and beyond to ensure I felt right at home—he truly made the experience unforgettable. The breakfast each morning was delicious and a great way to start the day. Overall, a fantastic experience, and I would highly recommend this riad to anyone visiting Marrakesh! 😊

If you arrive at the Road with an open mind, you will have a lovely stay. Yes it is slightly off the main road, but we never felt unsafe as two women travelling together. The staff cannot do enough for you and the free breakfast is lovely. The Riad is very traditional which means it does come with certain charms that you wouldn’t get in a normal hotel.

Everything was amazing! The place is a dream by itself. The room was so spacious and beautiful, and the bed and pillows were super comfortable. A special thanks to Ayoub Abdou WAFFA for making our experience even better with his positive attitude, constant smile, and excellent problem-solving skills! Definitely recommend!

From the beginning to the end, we were in a magical fairy tale. The service was perfect and we felt at home with Ayoub. The food is also delicious, and the peacefull Riad really gives u a relaxing feeling.

I have just returned from riad Shama with my sister and brother, we spent 4 nights here and it was amazing from start to finish. The service from all the staff was exceptional, the rooms were clean and beautiful, my sister and I were at the back of the riad above the spa so it smelt amazing. The pool is cold but very much appreciated with the heat from sunbathing on the terrace. Each evening we made our back to the riad for a bottle of wine and mint tea the perfect end to each day. I wouldn’t hesitate to book here again. Thank you so much to Ayouub and Mussafah.

After we walked through the busy streets of Marrakech, we really needed some peace and were welcomed in this quiet Riad with the typical glass of tea. We felt safe and relaxed from the beginning and were always looking forward to return to our little oasis in the city. First we had a small room in the back of the Riad and later we got an upgrade to the big suite next to the Pool. Both were very cozy, clean and quiet.
The Breakfast was a variety of morrocan food and always fresh and delicious. Even on the day we left the Riad very early the manager insisted us not to leave without a small breakfast. Special Thanks to Ayoub and the other staff, who were always generous and helpful when we had questions.
The Riad is a bit hidden in a very small street and on our first day someone told us this street was closed for non muslims. They let us in when we told them which Riad we were looking for, but it felt a bit weird. Later we found out that this was a scam. Ayoub told us that no streets in Marrakech are ever closed for anyone.

This was my favourite accommodation during my 3 week stay in Morocco. I only wish I could have stayed longer! The riad is beautiful and the rooms are comfortable. We also had dinner there one night and the food was good and very reasonably priced. The breakfast was the best hotel breakfast that we had during our Morocco trip. The manager Ayoub is incredibly helpful and goes out of his way to make sure you have everything you need. The only negatives are that the toilet was quite dirty and it was very noisy at night so it was hard to sleep.

I could not recommend a better stay than at Riad Shama. Ayoub was the most welcoming host and made my stay incredible. Him and the rest of the staff go out of their way to make sure your visit is fantastic.
The property has a beautiful courtyard with many places to sit and relax. The rooftop has great views and also many places to rest.
The room was clean, comfortable, and beautiful. I will stay here again when I return to Marrakesh and will recommend Riad Shama to any friends and family visiting.

I refused to stay at this Riad because the manager (ie, Marwan) has been extremely rude, irresponsive and disrespectful throughout my interactions with him. Use caution!
