Well let’s see, Where to start. — () Rooms only have 2 single plug ins within the room to charge your phone etc aside from the single bathroom plug for the hair lower. — () Room cleaning staff are friendly and do a good job. — () Front desk staff are rude and not helpful. — () You cannot exchange pesos, CAD, USD anywhere in the resort for pesos to use for tipping except with the Valets. — () Pool bars don’t open until 11:00 am? Any pool bar in Mexico at any other resort opens at 10:00am. — () Food at the buffet restaurants is marginal at best. — () Food at the Burger Bar, Steak House was good. — () Restaurant staff service was hit and miss marginal at best.

After an initial unpleasant experience we could now not be happier with the service, a new room where things work and aren't falling apart. And these lovely treats which were unexpected but very appreciated And this juice bar is amazing! Thank you to the rep and management for changing our experience in a few hours.

From the moment My family and I got here the service has been great. The restaurants are good. I had a problem with my TV and they took care of the problem right away. Great staff and super friendly. No complaints.

Terrible service rooms with water leaks rude staff in the restaurant brisas the annoyed manager answers not being able to join tables you travel as a family and you can not live the food without flavor the staff is not trained for customer service there is no security customers vomiting in the pool nobody comes to help.

Friendly atmosphere. Staff are excellent and nothing is too much. I would recommend this hotel and so glad we booked. Beautiful beach and plenty to do. The restaurants are excellent.

Best holiday I have ever had, friendly staff who are very helpful and in some instances go over and above, would highly recommend and will be returning again soon. Carmen and Sharon who work concierge were extremely helpful and accommodating!

My wife and I had an amazing time. The food was great, the shows were spectacular and the hospitality was beyond the best ever!

Nice and clean beach — they clean seaweed each morning. The enclosed cove is nice so no strong waves. Not enough beach chairs though. Rooms are spacious and clean n modern! The staff is nice. One thing we don't like is we could not get rsvp to other restaurants. We had to do buffets all the 3 days we were there. We were there on 15 yrs anniversary.

Terrible service, nothing to do with what they offer you, very poor quality attention, lack of training to the staff, we were 3 families we paid 42 thousand pesos, with work they gave you a smile, restaurant of the scrubbing, the staff even scolded you, honestly I do not recommend it look for other options, that sad that a Mexican despises another Mexican, especially that we are also part of the economic spillover, the next best we leave the country, instead of leaving it in Mexico, it seems that this is what the hotel employees are looking for, no return or free, rating of 0

We had an amazing time, everyone had a blast! restaurants were good, excelent entertainment, great drinks, awesome night shows. Will definitely come back again.

Just returned from a week stay and could not have had a better time — Beautiful room, well circulated air conditioning (which was well needed for the warm weather! ) up to date amenities and plenty of space. A vast range of restaurants which catered to a variety of tastes — The Mexican restaurant was especially notable! Staff were always warm and welcoming at any time of day and were never too busy to help with anything that needed assistance. Loved our stay here, cannot fault the efforts made as they have clearly paid off to make a wonderful hotel. The only suggestion I would make is to have coffee/water facilities accessible to guests at all times if it is before a meal time or before the bar opening times. Even then, a slight suggestion that did not dampen our visit at all. Thank you for a lovely stay! Hope to see you again soon!

We’re staying here right now after waiting for 2 years. Staff here are amazing and so so polite. Nothing is to much for them. Food is good and have had no issues booking restaurant. My only down fall is. I love a glass of wine and this has been my driest holiday. The wine is awful, but it’s not just here, it’s Mexico in general. Also, we have a lovely room but are very unfortunate that’s it’s next to a service entrance and we are woken every morning around 5 with staff bringing out trolleys. We have the noisiest neighbours which think nothing of banging doors and shouting ALL night, to be fair that’s not the hotels fault and the lack of sunbeds. I have never ever had to put a towel on a sun bed and don’t intend to now. For these issues, unfortunately I wouldn’t return here. Going back to service, we have been sitting in the Burger restaurant for 10 mins and nobody has approached us. Only 2 other tables in use, so definitely not busy.

It's a gorgeous resort. The staff is superb! the Entertainment team were great… so much fun. Rosa at the buffet was excellent, as well as Enrique at the snack area! awesome people! The food was wonderful… and we happily indulged! lol. Our room was beautiful and clean! The only negative for the week was the seaweed, which obviously cannot be helped this ti. E of year. I guess we will have to return to enjoy the beach! We found the ice cream area on our last day… would be nice to add another on the main side! it was delicious! We also love all the little animals here… they are amazing! Overall… our stay has been nearly perfect. We look forward to returning!

Excellent attention, service, facilities, if you include everything they stipulate at the time of booking, pleasant, comfortable, and carlos of the reception super friendly and gives you excellent solutions to what you ask.

Overall, the services offered were good. Amazing animation staff, great food and drinks, however the beach is not that great compared to what we saw elsewhere.

Terrible service and the worst treatment, just for being Mexicans they treat you badly, it is a racist hotel, it was the worst experience, the minibar was never filled, there was never availability in the specialty restaurant and in addition to everything the room was not the one I booked… they didn't give us quilts and on top of everything the TV was useless and they never did anything about it. The truth super disappointed of this hotel. Undoubtedly the worst of all!

It is not what I expected, the staff is not trained and they attend with a very bad attitude, they take care of you of the worst, lack of atmosphere. I do not recommend it, since we arrived the impression is another, you also hear complaints from other guests.

The facilities are good but the service is very bad, most of the staff are always in a bad mood and are rude. The food in the buffet is tasteless and unsathing.

My bestfriend just left there and they treated her horribly! She said she was racially profiled and the staff were rude to her after her flight delayed her. After my bestfriend’s horror story, I will NEVER patronize this resort and I highly advice for others todo the same!

Poor service I will never return and I do not recommend it much less to the nationals have a lousy treatment towards us. The structure of the ceilings is horrible the rooms suck, in the fridge only a bottle of water, in the rooms there is coffee maker but no coffee tell you that you have to request it three times and never arrived, the hot water from the shower does not work, they have no amenities, the attitude of one of the managers called Armando was nefarious we treated badly so we complained with a lady that according to which we would listen Which told us that she apologized and offered us some courtesies that would come to the fourth thing that never came also offered a dinner which when the date and time came when we approached herself told us that she could not stay, that it was clear that we never asked for something she was the one who offered to give us that and left us wrong, standing up to me and my whole family and we had to take off is lousy service plus no one watches the healthy distance or how people are served at mealtime, my family and I wanted to have a good time but we only made courage with the terrible conditions of the hotel and the lousy service they offer. If you are looking for a place to visit I recommend Barceló, Principe Bay, unique hotel those hotels if they are worth it. This hotel shouldn't be four stars if you get to one it's just by the sea that's nice.

Amazing animators and very nice theater show. I had the experience of leaving my cell phone forgotten for 2 hrs on a bed and there I found it. Very grateful with all the staff q at all times are very attentive. Thank you Catalonia. We'll be back soon.

My husband and I came to this resort for our honeymoon and had a great time, even considering going back. We had the privilege package so our room had a nice view with a fridge that was restocked daily. We had the option of butler service but never used it. The drinks were very good (recommend the mango tango if you like fruity drinks) and we were able to get a good spot on the beach every day! You can tell everyone goes above and beyond to keep the resort clean. The food was okay. Not a fan of the buffets but my husband enjoyed them! I would bring Mexican dollars here to tip everyone but otherwise you can put all charges to your room and pay with your credit card before you leave. The only real complaint I have is the fact that my husband surprised me with a romantic dinner on the beach. It was $250 for a private dinner and they said it was so expensive because of the flowers and food. It ended up raining that night and they stuck us in a restaurant and it was not even close to private and definitely not worth $250! The resort should really come up with a better back up plan. Other than that, the whole experience was wonderful.

4 days 5 nights and I must say we had an amazing time at this resort. Staff was very friendly and helped us with anything we needed. The only thing I would say is that the food isn’t good at all. We picked at food the whole stay. The Spanish restaurant had the best food. All beverages are watered down as well. We were too busy having a good time to think about food lol I Will definitely recommend.

This was one of my favorite vacations I have taken so far. I would agree with others to not bother staying here unless you are booking the "top level" all inclusive. Your room, seating choices, drink choices, beach choices, and more are limited if you do not book their best all inclusive option. We visited to scuba dive, not to lounge and drink on the beach, so the disappointing beach and watered down drinks did not bother us too much. The non buffet restaurants were delicious (buffet was what I expected from typical mexican resort food), and the upgraded room was fantastic. I would definitely consider coming here again.

Loved my time here. Relaxing and fun. Lots of activities, food and tequila! Only caveat was I felt like a burden to the staff whenever I asked a question or requested something. 70% of the time they'd point me in the direction of someone else or say they couldn't help. 2 years ago I went to Sandals for a wedding and the staff was super pleasant and always solved my problems; didn't really get that same attentiveness here. Overall though, great time, I would still go here again.

My family and I just had a 6 day stay at Catalonia and very much enjoyed our time there. We have 5 children so had to get two rooms which they gave us two rooms next to each other (not adjoining, but I believe that can be an option at times). We were in building A on the 4th floor and thought it was quiet and rooms had freezing AC. Nothing fancy but it worked. Had one issue with toilet but it was fixed almost immediately. The hot water on the faucets go the opposite direction (go to the right not left like typically in US). Water pressure went out a little like right before supper time when everyone is cleaning up but comes back. We did not upgrade to privileged and never felt like we were missing out or considered less of a guest. Very friendly all around the resort. We spent most of our time on the Yucatan pool side (a little calmer more family side) or in the ocean. Lots of food options at buffet and drinks were plentiful. They were awesome about making frozen virgin drinks for the kids. Snorkeling was great and if you have full face snorkels take them — $200 at resort. I used water shoes as it is a bit rocky but that makes the snorkeling great. The cement wave brakes are perfect to not have to worry about get pulled back and fighting the tides and it kept some of the seaweed away. The marina and market are in walking distance and great to experience — free to watch the dolphins swim.

Awesome place to vacation. Loved everything about it. Great beaches, great drinks, great service. We loved everything about our experience. They did try and get us to sign up for the privileged but we just said no. It took longer than they told us. Over all we have loved our stay.

An amazing place, a beautiful complex with everything you need to rest and forget the stress.
The spa and sporting facilities are in number and in perfect condition.
There are multiple swimming pools and multiple themed restaurants.
The staff are adorable as are the animation team LooK.

This is our third day here and we are loving it so much. The staff is amazing and very friendly and helpful. We had an amazing waiter on the beach named Maximo — tip him! The rooms are clean and very well kept. The food is good and variety everytime at the buffet. We would definitely stay here again.

Had a rest in March, 2018. Great hotel with a huge territory, with a bunch of restaurants and bars (Italian, Mexican, Japanese and European cuisine) in the rooms cleaning every day, animation inclusive atmosphere for every taste and color. The food is chic and varied. Bicycles and kayaks for rent for free, on the territory of their shops and fair is very convenient, if not enough time to buy souvenirs (you can visit the city supermarket Chiraoui, ordering a taxi on the reception) excursions took in the hotel from the representatives of Pegasus — Touristik, luxury excursions, competent licensing guides, included everything (drinks, water, chips, etc. ) impressions were unforgettable from Mexico, I would like to fly more.

Intermediate services. All inclusive with good food. Show and attention stood out. The point against it is the lack of beach which is rock in the entire area of Puerto Aventuras. The place is very quiet. You can ride a bike or run or go to the marina. Very safe and pretty. Fishing boat rides and yachts available with ease.

Amazing place… Excellent quality hotel price and a lot of kindness and coordialidad of its employees. The beach is a swimming pool with no turquoise water waves. Knowing to enjoy that is my humble advice.

A week on paradise! I have no complaints about this place… the service was amazing, entertainment staff was more than entertaining and so engaging. My kids just loved them especially Angelo and Mitzi. I love that the resort isn't sprawling and everything is so accessible. Omg and the spa, I swear I received best massage I've ever had, the Mayan purification it was like a hot stone massage to the 100th loved it! We will definitely be returning to the Catalonia for future getaways.

ATM, Wi-Fi included, the entertainment is not Italian and in the village very few people speak Italian.
I recommend to do the tours with the tour operator and not with the excursion desk in the place which is in the lobby of the hotel.

The service is good and rooms are OK. Food is so so. But there is a big detail: there 's NO beach, just a small artificial bay with rocks everywhere which makes it almost impossible to get into the sea. Nothing to do with the idea you might have in mind regarding the Riviera Maya.

Very unhappy with this resort, sadly have to give one star to give a review, will never visit a Catalonia Resort/Hotel again… Within the first few minutes of the check-in process, we knew there were problems. It was quickly pointed out to us, since we did not pay for extra room upgrades, & since we weren't Exclusives members (time share holders), we could NOT eat in certain places, could NOT use specific beaches, could NOT use a specific bar, & that we could only get blue towels for the beach rather than the white & beige striped towels (a member of our group that paid for a room upgrade, which came with the striped beach towels, caused some controversy when she tried getting a towel from the lower class towel stand). There was a small shack, pretty much in the center of the main travel area where they were trying to sell their Exclusives packages, & we were rarely able to walk past without being bothered. For our 5 night 6 day stay, we were only allowed 3 meals in the main restaurants. A family member did the room upgrade, they were there one extra day, & they were able to get a 4th meal. In these areas, the food & service were very good. Outside of these were the buffets… The food for breakfast, lunch, & dinner was not anything special to speak of. Very disappointing, & since it was not very good, it was difficult to eat enough to fill up on, & eating the same thing over & over became very mundane. Beaches… Very limited.

I liked the general beach more than the one for "privileged" clients. We had nice clean room, A/C made quite a lot of noise. Food pretty standard, we would appreciate more changes throughout the week. We have two small children and overall we enjoyed this hotel. Tipping here and there will definitely get you more attention and better service.

There is not so much beach, but the place is cozy.

Nice resort… Beach is small however if you like to snorkel this is the place for you. It has a nice reef in the bay. The food, like most resorts, is fairly blah, so for sure try the other restaurants. Make sure you walk to town it has amazing eateries with excellent food. Prices on food and drinks are very reasonable. If you are a beach bum make sure you get up at the crack of dawn to place your towel on your lounger chair to get a premium spot. This was to reason I gave it 4 stars.

That's great! Multiple activities that if you want to be incorporated or not clean a wide variety of restaurants within the venue to choose the type of food you fancy.

I had a very good time there. Location very clean, friendly and efficient staff, beach of all beauty, activities affordable and fun. Best for couples, singles or families with teenagers. I recommend it without hesitation!

I expected a lot more for a 5 star resort and to have hired privileged. The rooms were not made until 16 pm at least, in the restaurants you could not make reservation and had to wait a lot for dinner, you had to leave a tip for everything. The Archers cocktails, Aguachirri total until you leave a tip. Then you start to put more powerful cocktails, the pools closed very soon. The animators did not stop fool, they did not care if you were with your partner, the cheerleaders alike, very unprofessional. The excursions that sell you very expensive and do not enjoy, you get scared so you do not leave the hotel and you leave there the pasta, really is dangerous but like all America, you just have to take precautions. Outside the hotel there are better excursions and at a better price. The hotel facilities are shared with the hotel Catalonia Yukatan which has very bad ratings but it is the same as the Riviera Maya only changes the reception, the beach was not bad. You can snorkel and service except because they are slow well, the people of service very friendly.

Great all inclusive hotel. Many bars and restaurants, great snorkeling as well. We like to hang out at the pool bars and talk to others. I've been here over 8 times and will go back again.

For the price this place was pretty darn nice. We stayed four nights, and had a very relaxing stay. The spa was great, with a private pool and saunas. Food is decent. We ate at the tapas and stake house restaurants and the food was good, much better than the buffets certainly. Beach is clean and there is a wonderful lagoon to snorkel in. Biggest issue was the room. Our air conditioning broke, and it took three phone calls to get it fixed. Plus the toilet seat broke and was never fixed, so just minor things. Overall a wonderful resort with wonderful staff.

I went with my family of 12 November 17 we has a great trip. Food was good Beach was great and protected with a break wall so great for kids and first time ocean swimmers. Snorkel right on beach. Entertainment was great every night if you want it. Lots of live music at pool. Easy to get into A la carte restaurants. Bikes to ride to marina with dolphins and seals. Golf carts to rent. Great resort not too big not too small.

Small Hotel compared to others in the area but has everything you need for a nice stay. The food is very good. The pool and the beaches excellent. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Nice hotel in part very noisy. The restaurants are very good though, it is always a struggle for a slightly larger group to get a place. The Speisesäale are even worse and the food is very monotonous!

The resort was beautiful and clean. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had requested a King size bed. What we got was two double beds. The one bed was like sleeping on a slab of concrete. Horribly uncomfortable! The other bed did have a piece of foam on it so it was a bit better. My husband and I did not fit comfortably in these small beds so we got to spend our vacation in separate beds! There was a horrible leak behind the toilet. A constant drip drip drip. We had to keep towels laid down to soak up all the water. The food was not very good with the exception of the hot dog stand and the snack bar. None of the food was hot. It was lukewarm at best. Probably wouldn't stay here again.

A week of happiness, very nice hotel despite a disappointing beach… catering to the top, friendly staff, beautiful rooms with excellent bedding… only downside for the anecdote, do not leave your postcards at the reception. There must be a traffic of stamps, they never arrived…

The hotel is less than I expected for a 4 star. I have stayed at better 2 star resorts. The buffets are subpar at best and not refilled, help is rude and act like its an inconvenience to serve you. The resort is under construction and they apparently put everyone by it to see if you will complain. They down graded us once we complained. We repeatedly ask for an alarm clock and was told the resort was full and they couldn't spare a clock. We have stayed at the Catalonia in the Dominican Republic and in Tulam. Would not recommend this resort.

I love this resort! I've been to a few and this is my favorite so far. I like the location of it. The hotel is within a gated community so it feels safe. The entertainment is great. I highly recommend going to the steakhouse. Not so much the Mexican restaurant. If you want authentic Mexican food then you won't find it there. You'll have to go into town for that.

We're staying next door and decided to check this hotel, look around their pool, beach, etc. We were immediately flawked by their trained sales soldiers. We said, "no thank you" and kept walking, but soon enough we're approached and and specifically asked to leave because we didnt have the arm-brace required. We explained we just wanted to look, but meant nothing. Interestingly, as we walked away we're offered a day-pass, to which I responded, "Not after refusal to enter here. I would not buy anything unless I see it first, but thank you " This is a typical Hawkish style factory resort that lures you in with the "All inclusive" theme. No wonder it looks empty. No return customers, I guess. We went and sat at the wonderful Omny Hotel, next door, by the water and are finishing a great breakfast. Thanks, but no, thanks.

The Pro Dive Shop people are the absolute best that I have ever had the pleasure to deal with at any resort. Tip of the hat to John, Willie, Annie, Annabel and the entire Scuba team. The Hotel was beautiful, the attention to detail was spectacular. The Food & Beverage Manager, Miguel was awesome to deal with and Manuel at the Beach Bar is top notch. The Sunrise is beautiful — Can't wait to go back!

Very nice hotel I stayed there 2 years ago. But listen if you stay there don't deal with people inside the hotel, they will ask you to have a meeting with them to waste your time. Hotel is fantastic. Stayed in privileged room the service was brilliant all staff work very hard and are very pleasant. Will definitely return. 5 stars all round.

Everyone was friendly, food and drinks were good, very clean, easy access to the pool and beach, kind of difficult to find an available seat at the pool but the beach was close and you can seat over there with the most beautiful view and just walk to the pool! The only inconvenience was the selling people, very pushy and they try to pressure you making you feel bad, but when you are on vacation you just want to relax, that was my only complaint, oh and on our bathroom there was no fan so next time we have to bring a air freshener lol.

Very nice resort. Buffet meals have some work but the restaurants are amazing! Only negative is the first 2 days they try and hard sell you a time share! Very annoying when you're already at their resort trying to vacation!

It's been OK… some room issues… buffet is bland for the most part. The dinners are a little better. Beach is nice, the people are fun and the drinks are plentiful. You get what you pay for… but for what we paid, it was fun.

We just returned from a 12 day vacation to the Catalonia Riviera Maya in Puerto Adventuras, Mexico. It was our 8th stay at this resort and as always it was a very pleasant experience. We continue to be more impressed each year and have been adding to our length of stay as we are now retired and able to do so. We were treated very nice and the staff was outstanding, especially the General Manager, Gonzalo Vera. He made himself available and was always friendly even though I am sure he is a very busy man. The food was great, the entertainment was outstanding and the staff was amazingly friendly. I have to give a lot of credit to all the staff that keep this resort so clean and make it such a wonderful place to stay. Our room was beautiful and very clean. This is exactly why we have been coming back for the past eight years and plan on returning next year. We have and will continue to recommend this place to anyone including those with children as the Catalonia has a wonderful program for kids. You have done a great job managing this resort Mr. Vera Thank you and we plan on seeing you next year.

Prior to coming, I checked Tripadvisor reviews. Most were good, although the big contributors are normally fake or paid-for; but it sounded like a place I would like. There was one recent review (now deleted), that mentioned the Catalonia Riviera Maya security holding her hostage (her ride to airport was there) because the front desk said Bookit had not paid them. She paid a second time with her credit card (having already paid Bookit), and she was still fighting with her credit card company upon her return. The night before (not day of, as for the reviewer that was held hostage) I was to come home, I got a note to come see Edgar at the front desk. Sure enough, he said they had tried all day to contact Bookit but they had not paid them. I immediately dialed Bookit (I have Verizon and called them about international plans. Instead of $30 for 500 minutes and 1GB, you can pay $2/daily and use your U. S. Plan while down there. I have unlimited minutes), but couldn't get through. I 3-way called my brother-in-law and got through (fishy! ). She said accounting was closed. I was so mad that Catalonia would pull this fraud on me. He kept saying the their reservation department had tried to call Bookit all day, and still no payment. I gave them my opinion for about 30 minutes, then went to my room steaming, and couldn't sleep I was SO mad. Anyways, next day, I called Bookit, and Tigana says accounting was going to take care of it, and to check with the hotel in 15 minutes.

We just returned from this resort and we had a fab time. Our Room's (2), Bar's, Pool's, Restaurants and Staff are all great. Had a couple of problems with the air con & drainage in bathroom and both were fixed the same day … there is always something to do with the entertainment guy's trying to involve everyone. Tennis, Table tennis, Volleyball, Auqua Fun as well as trying out the catamaran, canoeing & kayaking or snorkeling. 5 A la carte Restaurants didn't have to be booked in advance which we thought is great, but the normal Restaurant's are also very nice and we always found plenty to choose from. One negative we found was the lack of Xmas party entertainment, with the neighbouring hotel "Dreams" putting ours to shame. Thank you very much to all the Staff which helped to make our holiday one to remember.

Very beautiful but the food could use a lot of work. Very nice staff and very helpful.

Pros: — Beautiful layout — Dinner on the sand – outside in the evening — Hammocks and beds near the beach — Friendly service Cons: — Our room leaked TWICE, same spot — Inconsistent protocols (sometime we can get a table for 10, sometime we cannot) In addition, we were told it was fine to wear beach attire to the dinner on the sand, but when we got in line to get a table, we were asked to go change. Management needs to stick to one rule. — Pool is only 4 feet deep — Pool closes too early – 6pm every evening — Pool and pool areas are slippery — Numerous workers do not speak or understand English — The buffets were NOT good.

Very good hotel in a safe town. Rooms and common areas very clean with beautiful facilities like spa and the rooms very comfortable. Beach average but very good for snorkeling. Note the ever-present and very nice staff.

Service was great, the food was good, rooms clean. Theater room too hot, could not enjoy the shows, the only negative thing was. You do not travel, the hotel offered by, they overprice. Take taxi (prices are negotiable) or bus close by take you for $2 a way places.
