My wife and I traveled to The Platinum Yucatan Princess in mid March. On first arrival to the hotel you may be optically impressed with its clean and modern exterior. Don’t be fooled. The Hotel has an extreme problem with pool tiles injuring guests. The pools tiles were poorly installed and the tiles are falling off or breaking in half throughout the resort pools. These ceramic one inch tiles when broken are basically pieces of SHARP GLASS. I myself received a six stitch gash to my big toe while playing volley ball in the main pool approximately 24 hrs after arrival to the resort. This resulted in our cutting our vacation extremely short. Look closely at other reviews and you will see that this is a common occurrence. Rather than fix the tiles properly at considerable cost, the hotel has a staffer picking the loose and broken tiles out of the pool in the early morning. The bar and wait staff are exceptional, after being patched up with a band aid poolside by resort medical staff I continued to bleed profusely, The wait staff were instrumental on me receiving proper medial care by insisting I see a REAL Dr who insisted I be sent to the hospital for stitches. (A special thanks to fellow Canadian guests who were on site and helped during the situation. ) I felt the management staff was genuinely concerned for well being but their hands are tied by corporate policy. The compensation offered by the Hotel for our ruined trip was minimal. This shows me that the Princess Hotel Chain is a profit driven entity with little or no regard for the well being of its guests. I have written this review in the hopes that someone will not have a similar experience and their vacation ruined. You pay good money for a vacation and deserve better.
