To take full advantage of Mauritian luxury hotels If you do not sleep on the spot, it is better to arrive around 5pm, 5:30 pm Maximum, so before sunset. This allows you to walk on the beach, to have a cocktail at the poolside before dinner at the Blue Penny.
This restaurant has probably the most beautiful cellar of Mauritius with close to 18. Thousand bottles at the last count.
But Mirror, my beautiful mirror, does it make me the most beautiful? Cellar Yes. We had the opportunity to visit the three stocks that will make dream any amateur. But for the restaurant, there is still room. The frame is not particularly elegant, the designers have privileged a relaxed atmosphere rather than luxury.
The inconvenience is a rather strong sonority due to both hard walls and an Anglo-Saxon clientele somewhat unobtrusive. The front part is pretty low ceiling.
Note on the table the presence of salt marinated in red wine! Very original and excellent!
No sooner had we ordered that we were served with fried foie gras with its fruit emulsion!
Efficiency, speed. And yet we were told that the kitchens were centralized for the whole hotel, so quite far away from this room. The waiters will require rollers in not long! Except that we had not had the chance to have the wine list presented! You know, the drink in ' 18. Thousand copies presented above and that prides the place. It is not with this kind of method that they will sell the stock. If I had been naughty, I would have returned the kitchen entries while waiting for the selection. But I wasn't there to make my savage, I let the director make a quick choice.
Both appetizers and dishes are well made but we are closer to the bistronomy than to the gastronomy. Burrata Tomato Salad is a basic blend. The portions of the dishes are beautiful, the chairs well cooked. This is all very nice.
As for desserts, concept requires, they are all prepared in advance and choose on a buffet near the entrance. It's like Flunch!
It is true that if it belongs to the same group, the Constance Belle Mare is of a standing inferior to the Constance Prince Maurice, located next door.
But what questions me is this gap between solids and liquids. I do not understand how it is possible to find enough customers who will pay 500, 1000 or 3000 euros for a bottle accompanying only fairly banal dishes and desserts of pastry-shop. As much, to indulge in aperitif with an overpriced lounge, still passes; But a Pétrus or a Romanée-Conti on a tomato salad or a poultry white (not even Bresse), I ask to see.
You're going to tell me that there are still some incompetent Russians or Chinese (or vice versa). But we do not make a perennial business approach to this kind of postulate.
To conclude, my Felton Calvert Road 2014 was not worth at all its almost 125 euros, too young, too green.
The meal was decent, the service Nice, with a sommelier Mauritian but born in Alsace! A manager who cares for his clientele. But you will have to spend more than one senior to pretend to play in the big court. If I am willing to cross half of the island for the Barrachoa of Prince Maurice, this is not the case for the Blue Penny. It is true that I do not have the fantasy of tasting an overpriced vintage on the other side of the world because I have the advantage of finding them at the foot of my door.
