Great place to relax. Nice food, great live band performances, and cozy. The only downside is the place is hot and humid. Other than that, I think everything is just good. Oh and the washrooms are clean!

I booked for 6 nights. The first night my room was number 313. Inside that room there is a machine that switches on every 30 minutes and is very noise (I even recorded the noise). I couldn't sleep at all that night. The next day the receptionist told me that in the afternoon they would move me to another room. But when I arrived that afternoon they told me that they weren't available rooms so I decided to sleep in other hostel that night. The next day they changed the room, 205, this room was even worse, without air conditioner and in the middle of the night I woke up with bed bug bites. I decided to leave the hotel that night and search for other place. I've cancelled the last night, but I didn't get my money back… And what is my surprise days later? They charged me the booking twice! I've contacted them via email but they don't even acknowledge the issue.

There were only 2 to 3 customers in the cafe and my food was only served 30min later. Then found out that my order was failed to send to the kitchen. Ridiculous! I’m not coming back for sure.

Kim Haus is incredible. As a place to stay the rooms are perfect, and it is located within walking distance of everything you could want or need! As a place to eat the food they cook is a good option for a break from local dishes and is delicious. … As a venue — Kim Haus has been a wonderful supporter of the arts and their staff are always friendly and helpful. Pretty much my home in Penang!

Stayed here for 2 days. While the room was small, it was well-maintained and clean. They have a live music bar and restaurant downstairs on the ground floor. Really enjoyed the sound of great music coming up to the room. The restaurant serves excellent food and has one of the best pasta selections in penang: especially the curry pasta, and coffee pasta. Host was very welcoming and the staff were super helpful.

Excellent place. Very well decorated and with plenty of nice messages on the walls. Dim areas that provides more privacy. Pets are allowed and they serve main dishes, desserts, cocktails and more. I had frappe mocha and was very good and carrot cake was correct. I will go again.

Stayed here for 1 night, the room is small but well equipped with necessities and nicely decorated. Perfect for a couple short trip. Price wise is very affordable. Have no chance to try the cafe item but shall visit and try if got chance. p/s: My previous review (commend on food & critic on service) is meant for China House. Sorry that I put on to a wrong node on maps.

The food and desserts are truly awesome! I will definitely come back to try out more of their food. Remember to try out their apple crumble with ice cream, the buttery crust will melt in your mouth and make you come back for more. Thumbs up!

Totally loving the whole concept of the place. The food and drinks are amazing as well, especially their homemade desserts! Another thing is the live music every night, definitely a great place to chill and hang out with friends.

Friendly bar, restaurant. Good music. Western &Eastern meals, generally good value. I love the tiffin meals. Hostel upstairs but I have never stayed there. Convenient location to see Georgetown, close to markets, hawkers and some of the best local food around.

Love the decor on the walls and the antique tools / machines. Mid-range pricing with a cozy dining atmosphere. Food was generally quite good, though there is still room for improvement in some dishes. They also offer a live band on the second floor starting from 9:30 pm, diners can enjoy a live performance as they indulge in food. Overall a lovely dining experience.

IT'S A LONG ONE! BUT READ ON… IT'S WORTH IT! It's sad that maps doesn't have 100 stars! This IS THE PLACE TO STAY IN PENANG! loved everything about this place… the location, staff, food (amazing bakery items, yes, they have a bakery too! ), Museum artifacts (this used to be a goldsmith factory and they have an actual VAULT converted to Restaurant seating! yes, believe me! ) Restaurant, ambience, bar with live music and to top it all the amazingly designed rooms! A super thumbs up for ARCHITECTURE enthusiasts… an amazing case study of adaptive reuse! Brilliantly designed open spaces inside the building in different floors! Every floor has a smoking zone… they have self-serviced free water dispenser, laundry facilities on 3rd floor (it's called floor 4 as ground floor is called floor 1)! SUPER DUPER RECOMMENDED!

We were there 1 mth ago for the 1st time & fell in love with the food & ambience. Therefore, today we went back ordering the same food. Unfortunately, I am sorry to say I will never go back again anymore. Quality of the food dropped tremendously & the portion of the serving were so much smaller. Staff service was horrible. They served wrong drinks yet gave us the stupid look & kept arguing! For everything we asked, they replied none! Utensils were not served properly & when we asked for it, again they gave us the stupid look as if asking us to eat by hand!
After dinner, we thought of going up to have a look but staff told us since last week, they started charging RM10/pax & will be serve with a drink! Come on, we just had our dinner downstairs, how can we drink again? Shld u open it free to customers who dine with u? It doesn’t make sense to charge me for just going up to hv a look at the ambience, right?

I stayed in the private room with shared bathroom. It was same floor with live band. You will heard the music outside even in the room. Power plug is next to room door which is far from bed. I thought it was just shared bathroom but in fact also shared ceiling as the wall is not fully covered. Hence you can easily heard what next door talking. If you looking for a place to sleep without high expectation this could be a choice for you. Location and environment is the credit to it.

The rooms are really nice and modern. Hot shower and free use of washing machines are a big plus. A/C worked like a charm. No natural light in my room unfortunately, but you get what you pay for. Also great food downstairs for a reasonable price. Highly recommended. Be aware of the tourist fee of 10 MYR per night which has to be paid in cash on arrival.

Window less rooms, no elevator, rude staff and super high prices. Better book other place.

My boyfriend and I entered your restaurant yesterday at about 12pm something. When we were sitting down and looking at the menu for lunch, we was shocked as we saw a really BIG SIZE RAT luring around in your restaurant! We pressed to call upon your waiter and wished to informed them about this issue. Then, a waiter came by and we told him about the rat. We even pointed to him where the rat was hiding. However, the waiter response was "oh my god". That's all. There were also some other customers who have their meal in your restaurant. I not sure whether they had complaint for this issue. My boyfriend and I left your restaurant after this incident without ordering any food and beverage. My mind still can't get over of what had happened yesterday. Hope you management staff could see this and take some action for this issue. Thanks.

Not a bad place to chill & dine. But don't expect fast service, the foreign workers are working extremely hard to serve every customers but they are really short-handed. The place is big but the servers only few, so don't expect speedy service or good delicious food, they don't have time to cook good food for you. I ordered a hot latte, when they serve, it has become a room temperature latte. The bread is good though.

Location is good. However certain improvements can be made. Rooms are susceptible to noise even though walls are concrete. Could hear noise such as water dripping, people laughing outside the door, cargo lift being used. Rooms are very basic, surprised that there was no television. Can add more stuff like additional wall hooks and wall planks. This will certainly be good to have. Service is great, no complaints about it.

Nice place to hang around for gathering. A very nice place to see gold smith tools. Amazing environment.

A truly relaxing experience. Rustic, pure and simple. Rooms, facilities, services etc. Makes you feel pampered and welcome. This place has everything from the cafe (i was informed that the food has no preservatives added), the bars are exceptional, foods were amazing, not to mention they have a goldsmith museum and a cross fit area in the building itself! The staffs are friendly and the facilities are well-kept and top-notch. I will definitely make a visit to Kim Haus again when I'm in Penang as it gives me a lasting impression.

Have been visiting this cosy cafe multiple times. It has great ambiance with top notch food quality. It has consistency in their food and the pricing is affordable too. Tried their salmon steak once and it has been a routine to order this dish every time and their custom your own pasta is another highlight. The downside is that the coffee is lacklustre but not many cafes serve good coffee anyways.

A very romantic place, suitable for society too. Best room design and very classical style. Love it so much!

Can't say enough about this place! We have eaten three meals here and had dessert to go, twice. The quality of the food is amazing, the service is efficient and friendly and the prices are very reasonable. The servers started remembering our preferences after just one visit. Eat here.

Cool and funky, loads of personality. The hotel is very basic although it's clean and even stylish in its own way. The attitude is unapologetic and a bit rock and roll. It's not for everybody, but if you're a young hip solo traveler you'll love it. The old goldsmith factory building=no windows in the rooms and very loud service elevator. The staff often get overwhelmed. The food is tasty, good portions and good prices.

Turn off the annoying, loud chill out jazz lounge music. It is not relaxing. It is annoying and intrusive! Asian places love this awful pop song cover chilled out lounge cover music. Why? Great scones and decor in the coffee shop otherwise.

Best decorations hotel ever with amazing goldsmith museum super.

Stay away from the Espresso Chicken. I can accept that it's difficult to infuse the flavour of coffee into chicken. But the whole leg was tiny, dry and tastless inside. It was served on a bed of mush rather than mashed potatoes. Squid pesto and prawn arrabbiata were good but lack the bold profile of good Italian pasta. The item that I enjoyed the most was the carrot juice with ginger. Served in a tiny 200 ml bottle but it really zings!

They don't care. They just don't care. A cool place. Obviously too cool to have guests. To cool to deal with problems, like that the hot water didn't work for 4 days. Too cool to care when they serve the expensive coffee. Too cool to care for the check in. And upon check out when they know that you already spend your money they REALLY don't care. My stars are for perfect location and a nice decor. NONE for service and hospitality. Hospitality is about creating extra value, and all though the hotel is a former goldsmith, it creates no value at all. Go to one of the many other same priced places that appreciate you as a guest. I did!

Overall I would not recommend staying here. This is because: 1. The staff are not friendly and not helpful. This is the first time in Malaysia where I have found people in a hotel to be rude. Any opportunity they get to charge you more money for something, they will gladly take it. 2. The rooms are stylish but not functional. The metal doors and windows create a lot of noise which makes it hard to sleep. 3. The air con is poor and the rooms are very hot. There are many better places to stay in Penang.

I loved this place during my stay in Penang. I came for both lunch and dinner. Excellent food. And enjoyable live music at night.

Friendly and helpful staff, accommodation is basic. Has single rooms but if you like getting an early night book the bigger private rooms as they have live music till 12 and it's next to the single rooms. Eight in the middle of town.

Stayed here early this week as a musician for 4 days 3 nights. Not sure of the rate, it's pretty good, and comfortable I must say. The environment is definitely cozy. The only thing they could work on is the water pressure and the Wi-Fi. Wifi is really really slow, and as for the food pricing in the cafe is really costly, and not really worth it's price? They should knock down their food pricing and drinks as well. Other than that, it's a nice place to stay as it is in the middle of some pretty good food areas :)

A really cool and decent priced hotel in George Town. I like the location close to the World Heritage Site and Chinatown/Little India. The food was really good for such a cheap price! Really recommend.

There was no live music on at the time — but looks like might be fun if there were. Nice balcony area. And well decorated inside.

Lunchtime wait staff were highly unprofessional — had to walk up to the counter to order because despite several requests no menu was brought. Had to help myself to cutlery and water. Service was poor, kindly retrain. That aside the décor is fabulous and ambience is very relaxing, not to mention the top notch music! Food is nice too.

Decoration very nice but it's the only thing that has good. Very noisy rooms, ours (room 405) was next to an old elevator that makes a roar of noise every time it starts and not for the night. Live music until 12 pm which is also heard in the room; Impossible to rest. They do not clean the room if you are several days.
