This is my review after checking in here. Last 20 Dec 2019, I and my husband had a mini incident at this particular premises and it involve those tiny crawlers.
As to our concern it was actually the bed bugs!
When we first step into the room; the room look fine, equipped with basic needs and very much met our basics but … it sure did have a particular smell. Kinda musky. Anyways, we were greeted by the bugs on our twin suite, room 134 at about midnight.
At first, we thought it was mosquitos but as to our horror we were defeated under our blankets as the bed bugs sucked our blood. So we packed our bags and rushed to the receptionist. It was claimed it was their first encounter. Obviously I requested for a new room, and we just comprehend to the rest of the stay. We were very upset and disappointed that now, we now carry that bed bugs back to our house and it caused us pretty good damages. And all thanks to 1926 Heritage Hotel Penang that now the bed bugs followed us home! ERGHHHHHHHH! As to our concern, we are wondering what’s the hotel’s next step? What action did they put up next? Are they keeping up to their standards-hygiene? If we experienced this and got so much hassle out of it, should we warn others? I’m posting this because after much consideration I personally felt that I had to share this story and warn you users what you may be put up to. So yup ‘

Clean room. Nice environment. Good service. Sure will come again.

This hotel is getting old, rooms not really updated. This translates to a non-existent Wi-Fi, leaks in the toilet, TV that does not work.

Nice place, I haven't seen any ghost.

More manpower and some facility should have more renovation is better.

This hotel is Good, okey breakfast and nice rooms.

Unfriendly staff. Check-in time at 2pm but we only got the room at 3.10. We stay ground floor. We can hear Ppl walking/stomping in their top floor room Really really flat pillow On the good side… 1. Housekeeping really helpful. Supply us extra pillow. When request towel they delivered almost promptly. 2. Swimming pool clean. Hardly any leaves. We choose Heritage because they hv ground floor room. Available. My son is klaustrophobic. Can someone suggest hotel/resort near beach in Penang (for next time) tku.

It is an old building but it doesn't have unpleasant odour, the floor is clean until I can't see any tiny hair. They provide varieties of breakfast each day. The room is quiet although located beside main road, and it provides very spacious and safe car park (the car park exit in a small lane instead of busy main road. ) They have a long corridor like haunted house and I enjoyed walking within this environment with their warm lightings. Only one lacking is the attitude of one the worker during check-in made me felt uncomfortable for seconds. It definitely worth to stay.

This is a good hotel for budget travelers. The hotel is located in as easy accessible road. Any one can visit sea shore, Buddhist temple, FORT Cornwallis, and several other tourist spots by walking. The hotel provides all types of modern facilities like Wi-Fi, ironing, good complementary breakfast an swimming pools for children and adults. Restaurants facilities is there, foods quality are also good. Buss or taxis are available near the hotel. Various Thai, China or Indian restaurant also available nearby.

Spacy double room at affordable price. Comes with a swimming pool with kids friendly and adult section. It has a water dispenser and reading materials at the common area. Hair dryer is available upon request from the receptionist.

The price is not worth on what we have here … at first we need to push the door to enter the room as it was so stuck and old… I got it oldstyle hotel but pls fixed it. Its doesn't worth with the price we paid … and second thing the toilet is very bad … the water shower is very slow … and no accommodation such as shampoo, hairdryer and stuff … its only one small soap for three people to share?, what the hell… u expect us to buy outside as we already paid your service? third, I would like to say that the pillow and bedsheets quite smelly. U need to consider about it. We ask for a room near swimming pool, but our window view is a back alley and rooftop zinc. I don't mean to give bad ratings but the price we paid is like for a 4star hotel … even 3_ star hotel is better … the worst experience. I will not come here again as I can get better prices near the same area/location.

Good value. My family stayed in a room with three beds on the first floor. It was plenty big for us. The pool was nice and the breakfast is a bonus. It is a historical building which gives it a unique feel. However, I do understand the reviews that are a little more critical. It depends on what you are looking for. The rooms were fairly clean, air conditioners worked well, and it was very quiet. We will consider staying here for our next visit to Penang. Edit: The Wi-Fi provided a full signal in our first floor room.

Value for money (deal). Outside the old town, but only 10 minutes walking or you can rent city bikes from the street to the right if the Burma entrance. Very nice local dinner options right outside, and other entertainment, healthcare etc. But if you are in town for the old town feeling, this may not be first choice. Bad Wi-Fi, get your own sim with data. Great breakfast. Nice staff. Nice room, with difficult hot shower. Good bed. Pool looks nice.

This place was a waste of money we paid 180 a night for a room with mold and dirty sheets etc. We originally booked for 3 night but left after the first night. So dissapointed Add another 40 and you'll be able to get a bigger, cleaner and new room @ Vouk hotel.

The hallway looks nice. This is important, because you’ll be seeing a lot of it if you want to use their Wi-Fi. Had to call maintenance several times. Toilet didn’t flush, Wi-Fi didn’t work, door didn’t lock. Then, in the middle of the night, our power cut off and they made us pack our stuff in the dark in order to move to another room. I called the reception to complain about this who kindly offered us to pay more for a better room. They also had a strangely specific dress code for the swimming pool which prohibited wearing a shirt or hijab in the pool. Only bikini, bathing suit, and swimming shorts were allowed. I’m not in the habit of dressing so little when swimming as the sun is too hot so I didn’t make much use of the pool. Later I discovered each room comes equipped with a bible, so that explains that bit of religious zealotry. In short, the unusually high hotel price is not in line with the quality of our stay. Dusty, stains on the linen and the curtains, and bugs everywhere.

The room spacious enough for two people but there is no elevator here so its difficult to carry bagage to 2nd floor.

Nice stylish and comfortable hotel with heritage atmosphere. Not new, but not old. Reasonable price.

Hotel is quaint and clean. Fun bar on first floor called "Monroes" with live band and dancing. Breakfast is mediocre at best, and I've eaten all over Asia so I know what to expect. Really just eggs, rice, and chicken. Shower is hot but nothing extravagant and aircons kept it cold but one leaked all night into a piece of our luggage. Pool was busy and nice to sit by. Location not great but near the Nothambeach Hawker stalls which are fun. Not much else around. About 10-15 minute drive to Georgetown central.

Hear a lot of noise from other guest upstairs. Breakfast just ok. Nothing special. Room is clean. Air conditioner was excellent. As far as safety is concerned, 3 electrical outlet in my room is faulty. Make sparky noise when connected to appliances.

The entire atmosphere is not bad but it's not maintained well. So it might strike u as rather just an old worn out building. Staff OK but I don't think they would meet the standard of Penang where a lot more ppl from outside the country visit than any other places in Malaysia.

Old hotel, dirty enough but close to Thai embassy is a big plus. And nearby there is a café in which tasty feed-Harvest in Cafe.

Such a cozy and comfortable place. Great Breakfast menu as well. Leads you to the outside world of Penang.

First time in Penang on business and was pleasantly suprised. Like its name, the hotel is very dated but thats whats expected of a hotel with the name 1926 Heritage. Breakfast was good. We booked a room with pool view but because we checked in 1 hour earlier we didnt get it, which really wasnt an issue. All the staff are really friendly. We did order food for delivery and the next day they told us that food from outside was not permitted. Which was weird but at the end of the day they allowed it. Nice pool area, breakfast was good. Wouldve been nice to have a small fridge in room. Rooms could use a bit of paint. Room and bathroom had a bit of a smell to it but all in all definitely worth the price. Its not 5 star but it is comfortable if you plan on staying for a few days.

Very good hotel in town with swimming pool, Wi-Fi, simple but good meals, European style (which justifies the prices), very good reception, city centre accessible by foot if you like to walk, very good quiet and restful, the rooms are comfortable and pleasant as The hotel is charming.

The former British Government House … Change to a hotel … It's old … Quilt pillows have turned yellow … The air conditioner is 24 degrees fixed and cannot be adjusted … It's nice during the day, it's cold at night … The water coming out of the faucet is also a little yellow … It is not recommended to stay until not improved …

This one of a kind hotel is unique. The architecture is from the British Colonial. It's old but they are trying to keep it the way it was during it's hay days. They have done a marvelous job. The Monroe restaurant is small but they serve everything that you can imagine. As the saying goes, nice things come in small packages. Food there is of top notch. Try the Italian dish. The breakfast provided at Hainanese Restaurant was simple but delicious. For those who appreciate olden architecture, do try out this great hotel.

Nice hotel although some of their room facilities really need some refurbishment. 'Front gate' can be confusing as the side gate is more like a front gate than the actual entrance. Got few hawker centre nearby, close to 7-11. Souvenir shops for foods is next to hotel and opposite of hotel. 1 important thing, close to wawasan open university if you are here for graduate ceremony. Suppose to get 4 star but minus 1 star because no laundry service as per agoda or website advertising.

Nice but limited Wi-Fi. One of the pleasure and. Quite privacy.

Hainanese restarurant is very nice. The hotel is somewhat good at 6.5/10. Close to many tourist attractions if you have a car.

Poor maintenance and service have made unsuccessful reputation of this hotel. Penang is famous for heritage but problems related to ownership. Malaysian government has taken over this building after UK GHQ left Malaysia and has let third party to manage the hotel.

Not a decent hotel to stay in. Not worth the money ofcourse.
Reception is not friendly at all as they follow strict 2.00pm checking rule. They told me to wait for 2 hours as according to them no room were available. The reception lady would not paid any heed to the request of early check in as she did not even call the room service to investigate that some room is ready or not.
And even after waiting till 2o'clock, she had the nerve to tell me that your designated room is not ready and you have to wait for another half an hour. On top of that when you asked them to provide fresh water bottles in the morning, they refuses and said that fresh water bottles will be provided when room cleaning is done. The walls are thin (you know what I am talking about) and sometimes its quite awkward with the noices. They have a strange policy that for getting the room, you first need to deposit 100myr to them, which is quite amusing (i have not noticed this policy anywhere else). They do charge some 12myr a day extra for blah blah blah taxes which is additional to the amount you paid online. Talking about room services, I have stayed in superior deluxe twin with terrace (hahaha dont get fooled with the name, only name is flashy beleive me), they give you a flat screen TV in which only 10 channels are there, that too regional. The bathroom were small and stingy. There was just one hand shower (no bathtub) which you can use it as a normal shower or however it pleases you.

Hotel has no elavators. If you have a problem with climbing stairs I'd suggest getting the room on the ground floor. Room we got weren't that big, but good enough. Ours did however have mosquitoes, close the windows at sundown and use the provided anti-mosquitoes mats. Breakfast was good. Hotel is quiet which is good. There's a pool. Ample parking available if you drive. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

We arrived at 12.30. Upon check in, the receiptionist asked us to wait until 2pm. The rooms are old and the windows could not be closed perfectly. The bedroom part also broke in the night. We told the receipcionist and direct security check what happened.

Very old hotel. It brings you back to 1926 where it was built. Kinda creepy if you are alone on the second floor. It has many rooms and very long hallway. No elevator. Hot water provided. Very quiet place.

This is the worst experience ever. Not even when I was a backpacker I slept on these conditions. The room is filthy. It smells so bad I could not sleep at all. The bed stinks. The pillows just want you to throw up. This is nothing like the photos. For this price everyone staying here is being robed. Please shut this place till someone cleans this and do some construction work! Please DON'T stay here!

Is a convenient place to stay and good food is around the corner. Good parking space and pool to swim. Nice place to get away. With a homie feel and reasonable price. You are able to access to tourist destination easy then you think. After a hard day tour, it is a good choice to chill at the pool or rest in the authentic design room mix with wood and concretel wall it just have the old school feel. To me is a home away from home…

A simple hotel with not much comfort… Rooms could have a decent cleaning (old hair, dirty bedding etc. ) As there is enough to discover in Penang, you don't have to stay there too often. The pool is OK and the water makes a clean impression, the breakfast invites to dine out… A stay should be decided, the great brochure pictures are just great… we have made our experience… 3days are already too much in the hotel.

Whenever I go to Penang I stay at the 1926 Heritage Hotel. Great rooms for a very reasonable price. Love this place.

To live with MOM and dad. Better to have three main room. Everbright past a taxi 15 RM, walking for half an hour or so. Domestic standard of hostels, don't hold out too much hope. Some photos of football players on the first floor, is probably one of the local teams. Is a United Kingdom colonial-era monuments.

Nice place to stay. Ended up staying 4 nights in this hotel. A few of food shops just outside the hotel to the right (chinese), a couple across the road from them (indian and korean) and another a little ways on the left (chocolate haven/western), so you have a wide variety of food to choose from. Quite a central location. Air condition can be a little loud but we slept just fine. Staff was mostly friendly, especially the night receptionist, Doreen.

I love the environment in this hotel. The staffs are friendly and helpful. Price is cheaper and it's affordable for budget conscious people.

I don't like it. I love it. It is very cheap. I stayed there for 3 nights and it was amazing! The pool is fine.

Very Comfortable hotel with nice charm I stayed here for three nights in July. Staff very friendly and helpful. Guard house will watch your rental scooter for you. Close to some good restaurants and a 7-11 is a two minute walk away. Pool was nice during the noontime heat. Will stay here again. I would like to see a small fridge in each room.

I like stay in the hotel on second Flor with swimming pool view. Food was fine as well. Moreover the price for the stay was very reasonable. Good for budget stay in Penang. Reception was very helpful with requests.

Very old building. I was bought a beautiful photo in the House, in reality all looks depressingly. Long dark corridors. Prison, tiled floor, old, no paths, as shown in the pictures there is no trace. Rooms too dark. Massive narrow doors leading to a terrace, for some reason, even two in a room, pool too pics more vpečatlâŝij than in reality. Bed was not changed after 5 days, I think for the money that the hotel takes accommodation is lousy service. From 8 am on tile floor begin to hysterically roll kalâsku with linen etc. Cleaning. Bathroom. Do not dry out, the humidity level exceeds the limit simply. I would not advise there to stop.

Almost broken shower and air con, toilet and water faucet still leaks (after repaired). Local TV station only. Wi-Fi might be spotty, speed is acceptable. Dhcp pool might become an issue. under constant renovation, the building is not old at all. plenty nearby places to eat from very cheap and up.

One can take bus service from Komtar bus station, no. 101, 104 fare at RM 1.40 travel along JLN Burma drop at bus stop 2 min. Walking distance to this Hotel.

Very good service. Compare to other "famous" budget hotel. The room is good. Suitable with the name (heritage).
