Very peaceful and scenic hotel by the beach. Cleanliness 5 stars. The pool, beach and the landscape is clean and perfectly kept. The building and design in the room is historic and nice. A hotel that I will visit again next time.

Very friendly staff. The place is still being refurbished. I’m sure it will have all its facilities going hundred per cent in time to come. Was disappointed currently they close the restaurant at three pm. This is only for the time being. I will certainly come again but will check up about facilities before the final booking.

Dirty dirty rooms…. Judge for yourself …. I paid a premium price @880++ per night for garden room. They said Gym and other facilities are currently under upgrade. Maybe they should upgrade the rooms first … the front desk lady by the name that starts with J is not friendly at all except this Malay lady who works during the day. No cutleries in the room except for 2 teaspoons…. Better stay at a hotel 2 doors away for a 5 star service.

We will definitely visit this hotel once again. There was slight hiccups during the check in process, I'm guessing lack of manpower but it doesn't matter because the hotel is so beautiful and peaceful. A much needed staycation. This hotel should not be rated 5 star it’s 3 star and below. Very dirty and dusty room. Used the room phone to call the reception but was put on hold and the line was cut off which made me walk to the reception. Checked in the room with the air conditioning not working. Had to get their technician over to fix it. Housekeeping is very very problematic with 2 star housekeeping I would say. Look at the photos and you will understand why. Please do not waste your money on this hotel. Please go for other hotels which lives up to the 5 star standard and value for your money.

The soaring casuarina pine trees, the lawns, its uncluttered surroundings and the general quietness are very calming. Perfect place to really relax. The beach is not crowded. Very polite and friendly staff and independent water-sports operators at the beach. A charming and picturesque hotel.

The room was dirty and full of dust. The balcony and outdoor bath tub is dirty. Waiting for check in the room about 1 hour. Bad service.

Cleanliness, my room had dust over my bed headboard that seems like it has been accumulated for over a year, my sheets had stains. So call duty manager couldn't be bothered despite my complains and was not even apologetic. Horrible hospitality for the price paid. Pathetic management.

Quiet, old school type hotel… away from it all. Just the perfect getaway place. Don't worry, McDonalds is just a 5 minute walk away!

We used to have our Christmas Eve buffet dinner here every year. However. This year the selection of food was cut by half! There were no live band, not much Christmas decorations, no atmosphere like it was before … it looks almost deserted! Only a handful of tables. The raw oysters were not fresh, so are the prawns … it was all mushy and slimy! It was down right pathetic … lone pine, you used to have the best Christmas Eve spread. What happened?
Luckily the service from the waiter/waitress was good. Safe to say I would not be going to lone pine for Christmas Eve dinner again.

Beautiful ambiance and friendly staff. Love the facilities in the room. There are umbrella just in case it is raining n the best part is they providing kain sarung as well. Will be back.

Quiet and private sanctuary yet strategically located where the night market and hawker stalls are. The room is spacious, the room juice bar is replenished daily and the bed feels very comfortable. I love the breakfast spread and the staff are uber friendly and accommodating. Thank you to the concierge who arranged the vehicle and provided advice on where to go, dine and shop. I wish they revive the Japanese restaurant though. Five out of five thumbs up!

Lone Pine, Boutique Hotel is really a stone’s throw from the the beach.
It’s quiet, and with it’s downplayed class and laid back atmosphere, you have no option other than to relax & enjoy. The staff are friendly, welcoming and always ready to help. We were greeted the morning after by the owner, Francoise who looks you in the eye when he talks with you. It’s something special when you are greeted by the owner themselves. The breakfast buffet has the most extensive selection of foods I’ve seen at a hotel and having to travel with my business, I’ve stayed in quite a few around the world — none with the selection they have on offer — and the coffee is great. Real coffee — not the filtered stuff. Great amenities too — gym, games room and two really nice pools — one for kids. Our 6 yr old loved it. In a quiet and secluded area too, with easy access to public transport. We’d happily stay here again. 5 out of 5 Stars. Dub Leffler.

Nice stay. Some upgrading may need at the restaurant there. Lighting abit too dim in room for reading. Overall its good. It's my second visit here and will come back again.

It's a 5* hotel and services! Hotel staffs are well trained. My room was given to me 2 hrs earlier as I happened to arrive early. Beautiful clean room with full set of amenities and welcome Tau Sa Peah… very thoughtful and authentic! Will definitely come back :)

Went to celebrate a birthday. The place was empty. Looks as though the hotel is undergoing renovation. Even though empty they forgot the sides for some and had to bring after being reminded. The steak was ok though as was the fish. The lamb shank was well recieved. We had a good time though and Devi was excellent. She seemed to be running the whole place. Be interesting to return after the renovations are complete.

Big spacious rooms that you'd only find in old hotels like this. Full of nice amenities. Friendly and helpful staff. Some parts of the hotel are starting to show their age though. Pool is clean and beach provides epic sunsets.

We have just returned from a lovely break at Lone Pine, a party of four adults occupying 2 rooms. This is a delightful hotel with only 90 rooms right on the beach. The front entry gardens are great and the pool area large with plenty of lounge chairs. Breakfast is one of the best selections we have seen in awhile, catering for all tastes. We found the rooms large with a roomy terrace which included a sunken bath, which was a lovely to relax in listening to the waves and sipping a nightcap after a busy day exploring. We plan to return to this lovely hotel as soon as time permits.

From our first day all the Hotel staff from the reception{ arrival}, café, pool and cleaners were friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was more than adequate. The pool was great although the area could do with more shade{ umbrellas} and newer lounges but I'm sure this will soon be remedied. Our room was more than comfortable albeit a little bit 'tired', although again I'm sure this will be soon fixed. I will definitely be returning to your Hotel hopefully next year.

My wife and I booked into the Deluxe Sea-facing room to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It's a mixed feeling staying at this hotel. Let us start with the things that we like about this hotel. Room very spacious and relatively clean. Love the colonial styled architecture which attracted us in the first place. And the location by the beach is great with a beautiful sunset view! Staff were excellent! Now comes the the things that we think that could be improved. A little disappointed with the condition of the room; it has definitely seen better days. The room is dated and could use some refurbishment. For example, the sheer curtain was old and dirty. The wooden flooring could definitely do better with a change. There were peelings on the corner of everything wooden such as the door panels, wardrobe and etc. There was once when I showered that the bath area was flooded. I have to tune down the shower, and it was ok. In conclusion, we would like to come back if the hotel is refurbished. Else, I don't think we will be coming back. We have been to some 4-5 stars hotel around the world, and to compare the hotel in Malaysia with those from the neighbouring countries such as Thailand, Singapore and Bali. There are much to improve to give the guests a sense of home and belonging.

Had a breakfast this morning at your hotel. Guess what? It was the most disastrous breakfast we ever experienced at a so-call hotel at this level.

Quite a surprise to know the she waited for 15-20 mins for a seat! I am very dissapointed! The food? To be frank, nasi goreng is tasteless! It has a taste of plain rice with oil… nasi lemak? You know the answer!.

Nobody took our used plates from our table. I had to bring them to one of the counters after it became a mini mountain on my table! Overall your breakfast food is terrible.

This Hotel is a very peaceful lovely experience. We found the staff were so friendly and could not do enough for us. The Chief Security Officer was a bag of knowledge regarding the history of the Hotel and a very interesting man to talk to. The only negative about this Hotel, was that the rooms need a bit of paint and general maintenance.

The evening buffer by the beach was great; plenty of food choices with lively music. The bungalow is what the locals refers the dining area as. Heard from my grandparents, the place has existed since their courting years. Definitely a walk down memory lane for those who have patronise the restaurant to dine here again. Definitely worth the price for the food and atmosphere!

Nice private place with serene surrounding. Breakfast was superb, with wide variety of choices and delicious foods. I was lucky to have my room upgraded for free.

This is my second stay. Standards have dropped a bit but still ok. Breakfast is still a problem at peak times between 9.30 to 10.30. I can understand that a wait for tables is unavoidable but the way it is handled by staff, one in particular, leaves much to be desired and sadly affected the overall experience. I believe the hotel is under new management after E&O left and I was informed that they are trying hard to improve. Please do it soon… sad to see your loyal customers moving away. Thank you.

Have a pleasant stay in the hotel. My gf like the breakfast very much. However, didn't expected poor maintenance of the room and common area, example like peeling paint. The hotel has a very nice garden but without bench. We wish spend a little bit of sweet time in the garden but found that no bench.

The room was spacious and the outdoor tub is just amazing. Although it is a little old but I guess it could be a rustic concept that the establishment is trying to portray. All the amenities provided are functional in comparison to some modern hotel that sometimes have issues with their amenities especially the aircond. Only issue is breakfast, I think the quality of food can be improve also the cleanliness of the bungalow. Definitely will give it another try in the future. Thank you to the amazing hotel associates.

Lone Pine never disappoints me. Great service, clean and great selections of their buffet breakfast. A very good place to relax on a holiday.

Comfortable hotel for relaxing. The drinks are relatively expensive compared to the small restaurants in town.

We are pleased with the service and facilities provided especially for the handicapped. F&B is a good cash cow for any hotel. The Chefs need to re-examine their quality of their breakfast. We only enjoyed the oatmeal, muesli and the eggs. The local food in terms of taste can be improved. Luckily we are in penang. We can go to the city to enjoy the local food.

I love your hotel's trees and the small patch of grassland where my family and I can take a stroll. Unfortunately, I noticed that trees were trimmed so much so that they have lost their shade tremendously, what a pity. I miss your shady trees and hope that they can regrow. Please be much passionate when you trim them next time.

Overall good experience. Courteous staff. Very nice view. Clean room. Nicely designed bathroom. Breakfast buffet needs to be improved. Toaster was not hot. Buns were crumbly (indicates that they were not fresh).

Excellent Hotel. Such comfortable beds. Always clean soft towels every day. Large room with nice balcony looking over to the beach. The rooms are very clean. The staff was very polite. We had an enormous range of buffet breakfast of so many choices. Very good quality. I recommend this hotel very much.

My friend frm KL stayed here and they enjoyed it so much. A view of beach front & body massage available by the beach. I was told that the breakfast spread variety choices and the ambience perfect for honeymoon or vacation w family. I had a good catch up w them here.

We really enjoyed our 5 day stay at Lone Pine Hotel. The location by the beach is fantastic, wonderful pool and gardens, and although the rooms themselves are starting to look a bit tired it still represented good value for money compared to other resorts in Batu Ferringhi. The absolute highlight for us was the staff, they were so attentive and made us feel incredibly welcome. Would happily go back.

We feel that the rooms can be maintained more efficiently as we find the mattress not very comfortable. Also, house keeping can be improved further as they don't clean as thorough as per what we experienced in other hotels. However, we find the staff extremely understanding, helpful and co-operative. They are also friendly and always serve with a smile.

Location The sea is not comfortable.

You can expect genuine hospitality and excellent service from the hotel staffs. The place is older than how it looks on the website. But the room we're staying in is spacious (family room with 2 queen beds), and the hotel offers plenty of outdoor space. All in all, great value for money.

Nice place but in need of refurbishment. Our room 803 also needs a lot of touch up as you can see it dated and not well maintained — e. G paint chipped off. The room was dusty and smells musty/moldy too. We found a lizard inside our coffee mug. Our bed sheet and duvet cover were with stains. We hope the management will look into the maintenance and upkeep of this hotel.

I stayed with my wife and 3yo daughter at room no. 107, from 8-10 Dec 2017. Your room is spacious and nicely decorated, but there are dirty spots everywhere. I even found a dead cockroach in your candle holder. Your swimming pool is nice and well maintained, clean and calm. The breakfast buffet is a bit tired, same food, nothing spectacular, not enough variety. But credit to your chef, the food is tasty and nice. You need to clean your common area more often. Dustbins were overflowing with rubbish at one point. I'm disappointed with your housekeeping services. I was in the room until 5pm, and requested for a later room cleaning service. When I came back to my room at 8.30pm, my room was still not cleaned. Your supervisor said she already instructed the crew to clean but they might have forgotten to do so. In the end, I just requested a new set of towels and bottled waters. In general, it was a nice stay, but I won't be coming back unless I'm made aware of vast improvements.

I was there to attend a wedding event. Great venue with sunset view for the event. Suitable for those who are looking for a city getaway. Service from the staffs are generally good.

We really enjoyed staying at the Lone Pine Hotel. There were 2 weddings over the weekend and it got a bit too loud with the music, but was fine as soon as everything finished. We loved falling asleep to the sounds of waves! Nice touch having the DVD library, and the tub on the balcony was great! Staff was friendly and helpful.

Nice classic hotel with reasonable price! I love this hotel, the location is next to the beach where you can many water sport activities. They have nice pool, out restaurant, green beautiful garden, large room with hot bathtub at the lobby, facing the beach! Food is ok, and you can find many seafood restaurants nearby. Staff is friendly and nice too.

Was great until the pub next door decide to blast loud music which woke my slumber at 1am. Hotel reception says the pub has permit for it until 3am and police won't take action unless it's 4am already. Good thing the staff can call up the pub to lower down the music, which the pub did reduced volume after around 15min. To be fair, I have left the sliding door towards outside slightly open. If fully shut would have muffled the music quite a lot in the first place.

Overall is good, but the house keeping can be improve, day bed full of sand upon check in and bath tub at balcony is dirty. The breakfast is nice with varieties of food. Some video games/cinema room/games room like hard rock will be a plus point. night time there is loud indian music from the people who party at the beach, I think your management shall take initiative to inform the people there. As we can hear is clearly from our room with all glasses closed.

Overall we had a fantastic stay. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Beautiful hotel, great location. Highlight for us was Having Mark as our driver, the 'day trip' travel team at the hotel were superb. We went on some brilliant day trips, personalised for us at very good prices. Was the best way to see the island.

Like the big room with balcony. Design in room a little bit weird though. Sea view is block by the trees spreading across the beach because highest level of resort is only 4 storey. Location of resort made up the cons. Night market and abundance of reataurant is at door step. Water sports are easily available at rear door of hotel. Staffs are fill with loads of information if you need any help or suggestion on where to go or visit.

We absolutely enjoyed our entire stay at the Lone Pine Hotel. ALL the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room (#213) was good. We had a perfect view of the pool and the beach. Although the mini ref wasn't cooling enough even when we adjusted the temperature. But overall, we loved our room! Loved everything about the place… the room, the staff, the food, the swimming pools and the beach. We hope to be back again. Most definitely will promote to our friends! Thanks for such a wonderful experience!

Rooms are big with a balcony with nice view. Rooms with full toiletries, soft drinks and beverages. There are ants around the basin. The hotel rooms are huge and good though it's rather old but renovated. The buffet dinner at our party was good and the breakfast spread was good too.

Relaxing environment. Near to sea. There is also swimming pool. If you need a place to destress, a good place to consider. There are shops and eating place outside the hotel, so not too bad for a short stay. But would advise to drive if you want to move around to other parts of town.

Lone pine… what can I say? It's good from far but far from good. I spent quite a fortune to celebrate my first anniversary there but the quality of its service did not live up to my expectation. I went there with my husband, and two of our friends (one of them was in charged as our photographer)
After checking in we went by the pool to take some photos but we were later informed by the staff that to have such photography session we have to pay almost rm300. Some of the guests were taking photos too but I guess using dslr is a different case. Never mind that. They also told us that we should inform the management beforehand so we could get it done for free or with cheaper price but the management wasn't operating on that day. And there was nothing extraordinary about the room, the view, and their breakfast. Overall, I think we could get more with the same price we paid in other places, or the same quality of service with lesser price.

My wife and I are local penangnite from the mainland and used our asia miles point to book a night stay at this hotel for the first time as staycation.
Personal opinion on this hotel,
Hygiene: 3/5, I would rate lower if we bring our son here coz the hotel is suffering wear and tear without detailed maintenance.
Stylist: 4/5, this hotel provide old style british colonial heritage accommodation. As one of the guest commented there is a nuisance building of miniature malay kampung house nearby the swimming pool which really not match the hotel. The hammocks were great anyway, but should forbid smoking at all covered areas.
Facilities: 3/5; Game room, with internet and board games, etc. Are fine. However using outdated radio clock in the room is not a nice option which serve better in 3 stars hotel nowadays but not this Lone Pines. Please provide bluetooth speaker alarm clock instead. TV receptions were bad for many channels and do upgrade them to HD viewing plz. Swimming pool does not equipped with Jalcuzi massage system.
Food: 3/5; ala carte food were pricy in my opinion and don't think they are as good as Hard rock with live performance to entitle this high price.
Breakfast not fancy but we like the old style egg cooking and roti canai on the spot cooking. The best is the roti bakar with charcoal fire in my opinion.

Charming, low-density boutique hotel situated on a prime beachfront property with extensive well-manicured lawns, swimming pool and direct access to Batu Ferringhi beach. Rooms are large, airy and well-maintained. Buffet breakfast spread and staff professionalism could be improved.

Although all of them sea view room, but because of the tree is too tall, full, looking out into the sea and the beach. Just lush. But look, the grass is withered by scorching sun on the ground, fade, not angry. But you still can't deny this is a scene of a heart.
Adequate room, especially the bathroom design is especially spacious. Bright bright white wall paint, everything can be given a vacation mood. Just may be as a result of long-term Sun strongly, furniture paint has cracked off. Can water on the balcony to see the scenery, there are free slippers to take.
It is most unfortunate that this sea is not beautiful, after all, the Malaysia people less likely to choose to see the sea here. Snacks are the most important.

The oldest hotel on the beach of Batu Ferrighi, refurbished and significantly expanded. Thus the old charm has disappeared, but it is still one of the best hotels in the place. The food is still excellent and the restaurant is frequently visited by locals.

The atmosphere was Just perfect for relaxing — which, in Other way, means Got Nothing to do. Well, for taking a rest its a perfect place to be. But I Hope the restaurant Can have more variety for breakfast.

This review is about The Bungalow restaurant ONLY — not the hotel accommodation or anything else. My sister and I decided to bring our parents and brother there to celebrate my dad's retirement since they like the Loner Pine. Unfortunately the service at The Bungalow was indifferent. The server who took care of us most of the time seemed a bit confused, although pleasant. She picked up and rearranged our silverware a couple of times. Two other waitresses who helped to clear plates and serve water had continously sour expressions even though we never said a word but "Thank you" to them. They had to be asked to refill our water glasses which had been empty for some time. Much worse in my opinion was that my sister's salmon steak was distinctly off. Even my father and I sitting at the opposite end of the table could smell a fishy odour when it was served, and it was mushy. We sent it back, not wanting to risk food poisoning. The second serving that arrived was noticeably fresher and firmer. I don't know if they thought we wouldn't notice bad fish, being not-wealthy-looking locals. Positives — tuna nicoise salad was nice, roasted veggie salad was excellent, tenderloin steaks and pasta were pretty good. Location is lovely, right next to a pleasant beach.

This place was wonderful — a complete retreat. The rooms are spacious and have been fitted out to high quality. I especially liked the balcony with a lovely cushioned "sofa" to relax and unwind before heading out for the evening. The staff were always polite although sometimes a little slow with service — around the pool for instance there was only occasional opportunity to order a pool-side drink / snack. Another minor gripe is that it would have been helpful (given the price tag of the hotel) if they had been able to arrange for us our bus back to KL. Instead all they could muster was the local scout who wanted to charge a very hefty mark-up so instead we ended up DIY over the internet — not entirely straightforward without a Malaysian credit card. However, none of this detracted from what has been a wonderful experience. If anything the only major fault I have is not with the hotel but with the beach. As you may read elsewhere the beach / sea is plain dirty. It really does spoil what would otherwise be a tropical paradise — on the drive down to Georgetown you can literally see rubbish upon rubbish floating in the sea. Pretty poor and makes a mockery of the cosmetic appearance of clean spaces that they try to create in the shopping malls / green areas. Come on Malaysia — pull your finger out and enact some environmental legislation to stop polluting your ocean. Because, for me at least, it means I won't be visiting again any time soon.

I can't understand the reviews saying poor service. The staff are a delight and will go out of their way to help and always have a smile, and yes I am staying here at the moment (brilliant and weather improved on last year) and no, I'm not connected to the hotel.
