What is great about this hotel are the truly outstanding views, the sunsets are absolutely superb.
However the hotel is more 4 star going on 2 star. We were shown to a very nice, large room, great views and big deck.
First things first, make a cup of tea with the kettle, tea and coffee provided but no bottled water, went to reception and was told that we would have to buy the water as it wasn't included, absolutely ridiculous in a country where the tap isn't safe and its been drilled into us only drink bottled or purified water, we were eventually given a bottle. A. C. Works well, bed was comfy. Back to the deck, it's a minefield, uneven, loose boards with nail heads protruding everywhere, just waiting to catch you out (see pic), in the background of the pic is a cushion, we put this there as there is slope in the deck that we both tripped up and this was a reminder.
A nice meal in the restaurant and wine acceptably priced. The next day, no cereals at breakfast, just one yoghurt, plus pastries, bread, rice and beef. No juice, no water, we weren't offered eggs which we later found out were available.
To the pool, nice enough area, only one set of chrome ladder steps into the pool which are bent and very slippery, I have the bruises to prove, the sunbed mattresses are filthy and the the sun umbrellas covered in mould and should be replaced (see pic). We were told they didn't supply pool towels, so we took the towels from our room.

We spent 2 nights here (not consecutively), the first night we had only about 10 hours but longer the second time, all morning. Spacious room with huge veranda with wonderful view of the bay and the mountains behind Fort Dauphin. The food at dinner was good but the breakfast buffet basic. The staff were very pleasant. The hotel is a bit shabby round the edges and there are some strange abandoned areas (defunct bars and so on) walking down to the beach, but we spent a delightful morning sitting on the beach watching the scene. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if the occasion arose.

The hotel is stunning but is a bit run down. Definitely needs some upkeep, the roof on the balcony was rusted and falling apart, the hammocks were fraying and not hanging on well. The Wi-Fi was decent, food was alright but the menu got old very fast especially breakfast (the exact same every day). Staff was friendly and helpful, albeit a bit confused and slow.

My travel agent kindly booked me into an enormous room, really a suite, with breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. The bar and restaurant as well as the pool have similarly marvelous views.
There were enough unpleasant quirks, however, they kept me from giving this hotel, probably the best in the city, full marks.
My room has two sinks. The left one barely gives any water so you can’t use it. The right one works fine except that you can’t really unplug the drain so it fills up and only gradually drains after you use it. The shower is fine with both regular and rain shower options. Getting the temp just right can be a bit tricky but there is plenty of hot water. Toilet is clean and works great.
The room has a television that I never bothered to use, but it is strangely located in essentially the foyer area and not really visible from either the bed or the living room area.
I had dinner and breakfast included. I was really tired, so I only had the main course which was overly salted but still very tasty roasted chicken with overly sautéed vegetables. I was unable to enjoy my meal though because of the insistent cat meowing right next to my chair as well as another one settling nearby. I’m allergic and asked for some help from the waitstaff, who did nothing. When I gave up and left, the cats promptly jumped on the table to finish the meal. Cats 1, Tourist 0. There are American/European options (eg pizza, burgers) if you prefer something along those lines as well.

Rooms are big. Balcony has super view of the ocean and the Poolside. Restaurant is one of the best in Fort Dauphin and has things like Pizza, Burger that are not easy to find elsewhere. Staff is helpful and responsible. Excellent option for a hotel in Fort Dauphin.

Such a beautiful and relaxing hotel! I stayed for two days at the end of a work trip. There were several families staying, but the hotel is well set out so that even though I was trying to work in a quiet and beautiful setting (rather than fully being on vacation) I didn't feel out of place. The Wi-Fi was acceptable and the staff was great about getting me what I needed to keep working. Breakfast was a bit pathetic (I like a good breakfast buffet) but sufficient. Otherwise the food was great.

I had a very pleasant stay there. Sublime environment, very friendly and available staff.
Refined and well thought out cuisine.
I can't wait to come back…

Disappointed on food and cocktails! To be greatly improved.
