Unique religious, cultural and artistic mix you won't find anywhere else! Do not think about this bazaar as just a market. Every corner here, tells its own story. The Old Bazaar is a cultural and artistic center in which a number of cultural and historic monuments are located. Most of the buildings that once were used to host the travelers or as hammams, were transformed into museums and galleries, which today are used with the main purpose to host art exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events. The area is also home to several mosques, churches and a clock tower. The authenticity of the Old Bazaar can be experienced through food but also a lively nightlife during weekends.

Nice place, but reeks of tourism. Aside from old buildings not so much old style to it. I would recommend hitting up one of the modern shopping malls and food courts to get a feel how locals shop and live.

The vivid memory of many centuries, this place gives you a good idea of the size, functions and architecture of beautiful old Balkan towns. Even if the genuine local Macedonian touch is barely visible now in the old market, under the strong Turkish influence, you have a chance to see the fine blend of ethnics, religions and peaceful vicinity now… A lot of small souvenir shops (don't forget to bargain), coffee shops, sweets. I liked the unexpected, impressive changes in the new city center nearby, too.

Sweet mini bazar in Skopje. If you stroll through slowly, you'll be through in about 30 minutes. Very clean, lots of small shops, from A. Gold and bridal fashion. Restaurants available. This is mainly called Turkish. Lots of beggars with children, lots of track dogs.

Very nice, big, very old-Turkish. Could be a bit cleaner! Have a lot of shops with dubious quality of goods, but it is impossible to miss it when visiting Skopje. Nice restaurants, a lot of fast food joints, serving local specialities. National Art Gallery located in an old Turkish bath is a must!

Very nice place in old part of city. There are a lot of traditional restaurants and shops. You can find many delicious pastries from the old days. This place is in walking distance to center and most of attractions. I recommend this place to feel old Macedonian spirit and traditions.

It would be a good way to let the sailors see how he wakes up at the age of 06.30h to 07.30h.

It's an open complex of little stores of various types, in an area that has kept its authentic old look, style and feel. Definitely a place to visit and see, and the stores are rather inexpensive.

Interesting place with a lot of historical values. Always crouded place and with a lot of positive energy. Lots of restaurants with traditional, delicious and very cheap food.

It's an interesting historical place, but the shops are all the same, 80% gold and silver jewelry, 10% wedding dresses and the rest are souvenirs and food :-) food stalls and restaurants don't accept credit cards, so you need to change or pay with euro. In December there loads of stalls with fireworks.

Fantastic fresh food produce and restaurants and local artisans. A good place to observe the city go by with a coffee in hand. Vibrant and friendly place, an absolute highlight. Highly recommended.

Frankly, if you've seen the Istanbul bazaar, everyone else will look like bad reconstructions. That's the way to Skopje's Bazaar. Rich in jewellery (I don't know how many people can count gold or silver in a market) and souvenir shops. Low-profile.

Historic Bazaar you can buy anything Cheap Gold or Silver also repairs and Purchase … Little Craftsmen … Good Atmosphere … But also Beware Pickpockets!

A must see place! Great atmosphere, great food, water papis and cultural diversity. It is also packed with many great stores that focus on very specific things. Very authentic.

One of the oldest and largest marketplaces in the Balkans. The Old Bazaar is known for its cultural and historical values. Although Ottoman architecture is predominant, remains of Byzantine architecture are evident as well, while recent reconstructions have led to the application of elements specific to modern architecture.

Very cool experience. Kebabs and ice cream everywhere! Very nice locals! Lots of traditional shops with clothing and antiques. The roads are so cute! I loved everything about it.

Great working market. There are a lot of restaurants and shops for tourists (and I assume some locals), but also a full working market towards the back with everything you could need from food to household goods. The vendors aren't pushy which makes it a very enjoyable experience.

An absolute must visit if you're in Skopje. It brings back memories. When you exit the bazaar, you're right in front of the new modern Skopje. A lot of cafes, pubs and shops, all with an authentic style.

If you are a visitor and interested in old architecture and and history, plus you want to see a place from the time of the Ottoman Empire, this is the place to come to. It has also got a lot of shops that you can visit.

Must see if you are in Skopje. The Old Bazaar (Stara Charshija) Beautiful old part of the Skopje, with lot of restaurants, shops, monuments and museums. Cafes and pubs are full from the beginning of evening until late hours accompanied with local band gigs.

Amazing place that brings you back in time. Unique experience to pass from the modern city to an old bazaar. Full of typical Turkish shops, stores, restaurants, old buildings. In the middle of the bazaar you can find many mosques. At the end there is a big open market where you can find all the things you want or need. It's a must to see in Skopje.

Cozy little streets with merchants.

The old section of the City of Skopje had been the city's centre for trade and commerce since at least the 12th century. It rapidly grew and reached its peak during Ottoman rule, evidenced by one of the best preserved examples of urban Ottoman architecture in Macedonia — over 30 mosques, several caravanserais, baths and other Turkish buildings and monuments. Although Islamic architecture is predominant in the bazaar, there are several churches as well. “Stara Charshija” (Old Bazaar) is a truly unique district which makes a joy to explore on foot. The best way to approach is from the center of the new city, walking over the Kameni Most (Stone Bridge). As you make your way northward it feels like you are gradually stepping back in time to Ottoman Rule. The old market place and streets are still alive and full with atmosphere which radiates from the small shops, coffee and tea rooms which are always full with tourists who are delighted from the appearance and the life of this part of the city. The Old Bazaar as one of the major landmarks and cultural — historical part of the City of Skopje, was declared as cultural heritage of great importance and has remained under the permanent protection of the state, according to the law passed by the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia on 13 October 2008.
