Basic Japanese-style rooms overlook the temple compound, and feature a tatami (woven mat) floor, on which traditional futon bedding is spread to sleep in. They are fitted with air conditioning and a safe.

Amazing, authentic overnight experience at a Shigon Buddhist temple, not a tourist trap. BEAUTIFUL, quiet, temple grounds great for walking. The morning for ceremony and morning prayer (4:45am and 5:45am respectively) were very special, spiritual experiences. All the monks and staff were very nice and so gracious. The vegetarian dinner was so delicious, as was the breakfast. Rooms are modest but spacious tatami with air conditioning and a safe. Shared bathrooms (toilets) and shared baths (one gender at a time for separate times). Get there by train to Oji station and taxi (taxi about 2000 yen) or a bus that comes every few hours. Don't forget to take out cash before heading up the mountain as payment is cash only. Overall highly recommended!
