A perfect location. Hop on the subway, or just hop, or skip, or walk comfortably around town center with historical neighborhoods right next door. Great facility with caring staff. “Did I mention the Subway station is right there, what convenience. ”

Great service and breakfast.

I enjoyed our stay for the most part. Our room was comfortable, spacious and clean and the bathroom was fitted with a fabulous shower. I ordered coffee from room service and it arrived moments later, piping hot and strong. What a delight for a weary traveler!
Be aware that the hotel does not offer turn down service or any other special touches you may be accustomed to.
The staff was very helpful in every way, especially the concierge!
Other positives are the proximity to good shopping, a fabulous cafe in the hotel (cream puffs to die for) and four restaurants.
The one and only negative is that there is only one bar which is lovely, but allows smoking. There is no where to escape to from heavy smokers and there appear to be many of them.
Would I use this hotel again? Yes — as the positives outweigh the negatives.

As with all good quality Hotels in Japan, the service is superb, there service standards are as high as you will find anywhere in the world, friendly, polite, professional at all times, and the Kyoto Hotel Okura is no exception.

The staff here is AMAZING! Super friendly! It's also located in the best area as it is super central, subway and bus stops are 5 min walk from the hotel. Little known facts: it is the tallest building in Kyoto, and the hotel has been there sknce 1888 (obviously remodeled and kept up), it's great to know legends have stayed here along the years. Very recommended for a stay on Kyoto!

Placed in a very convinient location to go anywhere around Kyoto. Also one of the highest buildings in Kyoto. Great view.

It is in a good location but if you have visible tattoos I suggest not staying here as have found you get treated with biased (discriminated) and then when trying to talk to manager they don’t understand English really disappointed that in this day and age when you are paying people they still treat you with contempt.

Fantastic hotel right in front of the city hall and walking distance from the imperial Castle. The rooms are big and bathrooms spacey. The staff is super friendly and nice. The restaurant on the 17th floor has amazing view and breakfast has a lot to offer. The hotel has smoking booths and rooms, if needed. Overall, very happy with my stay here.

Spent three nights here. Wonderful location. Staff and service is exceptional. We had a huge corner room with large windows on both sides with a lovely view of the mountains. They have a shuttle back and forth to the train station. You can walk underground directly to the local metro stop. Amazing breakfast buffet. Chinese restaurant was a disappointment.

The hotel isn't bad. But it's fare 3*. Rooms are tired and smelly. The only one normal restaurant — steak house is fully booked. The rooms are very basic and with worn out furniture.

Very nice location and very nice hotel only get one room key though.

Although hotel is a little dated, rooms were fairly nice, especially for the price, and service was excellent. Most of the staff spoke excellent English and they were all helpful. Location is good. I would definitely stay there again.

A nice old hotel with spacious rooms and in a decent central location connected to a subway and small underground mall. The service is top class and the Japanese breakfast is not to be missed. The only downside is that the rooms are in need of a little renovation.

The hotel is located in the center of the city, close to shops, attractions and restaurants. Nice and helpful staff. The room had kettle, small TV and a safe box. Unfortunately no socket close to the bed which in these days is important to charge cell phones and tabs while on bed prior sleeping. The room rate included a. Breakfast and a free internet which was slow sometimes. The overall rating is 3.8 for reasons I mentioned but I rounded it up to four.

Those who are looking specifically for Japanese knives from Kyoto will be happy at the small knife Shop Shigeharu (重春) at the corner of Oike-Horikawa near Burg Nijō (visible). Even if you don't look at the store, Shigeharu can look back to the 12th century. If desired, the name is engraved into the knife for free. Unfortunately, English is not spoken here (only cash payment possible). For the knife engraving with name in Japanese (my ハラルド) inform beforehand. Communication with hands and paper works well. The owner makes great effort in selling and is very friendly.

Average hotel in a good location. Easy access to subway. Shuttle to/from Kyoto Station was convenient. Room itself was unremarkable, and charging for coffee in room was a surprise.

I love the location which was walking distance to the amazing Nishiki mkt. The service if the staff from the bell boys to the conciege was very professional n friendly. The room was a good size n we love the breakfast tht we order two mornings in a row. On the last nite, we had dinner at Pittoresque, their fine dining french restaurant. Food was superb!

The location is ideal, close to the main street, restaurants and attractions. The hotel itself is a bit old, but well-maintained, the staff is remarkably helpful, from the front desk to the staff helping you getting a cab. We feel really welcomed here. The only downside is the room, we asked for a non-smoking room, yet the room had a faint smell of cigarette. Other than that, everything else was okay, the room was quite big, considering it's Japan where room is rather small.

Nice hotel connected to a train station with easy walking access to main downtown attractions, like Nishiki Market. Some surface could be improved with updates, but the overall feel is nice. The higher end rooms are very spacious with dramatic views of Kyoto, the river, and mountains. Breakfast location is a beautiful way to start the day. Great service.

Nice and good service, but was a bit older and more dated than other hotels I've loved in Japan.

It's not the newest but it is comfortable and really convenient with a subway station in the lower basement. The staff are always friendly and helpful.

It is more like a business hotel than a holiday hotel. Good location and friendly staff.

Graceful ambience and flawless service. I also had the best-tasting Beef Stroganoff with saffron rice there. Trust the Okura Hotel to make one's supposedly casual lunch a memorable one.

Quiet lovely location in a beautiful city.

Classy Hotel next to Kyoto City Hall, large and comfortable rooms, shops and restaurants inside. On the metro below the hotel. Great for those who want to enjoy the "Gion" festival because at two steps, but not directly within the festive chaos. Shopping galleries and gifts nearby, Kyoto is one of the best places to buy souvenirs to take home.

The location and people are great. I only don't like here is the nasty smell of car parking.

Probably the best hotel that I have been in Kyoto. The views from the rooms are amazing, the service extremely helpful, even to be Japan, and direct access to the metro station.
They have a free shuttle to the train station. Has it all!

Nice hotel and location, alto you get charged for everything, the fitness center is only available to in house guests at certain times and at extra cost.

So glad we got a free upgrade to a larger room. Very convenient location. Room is clean but old school. Breakfast is amazing.

Certainly one of the most beautiful and luxurious hotels in the city. Maybe a little dated but definitely an impeccable service and a view of river Kamogawa really atmospheric. Recommended the deluxe River view.

Staying here was easy and comfortable. They offered more help than we could have asked for.
