Sinomesou looks old and traditional. This ryokan is ideal for families and anyone who prefers a traditional Japanese experience over a modern, luxurious room.
The staff are very helpful, although there were some limitations with English. This is quite acceptable for a more remote onsen town in Japan, and using basic Japanese to communicate will be beneficial if you require assistance.
The food is delicious and incredibly fresh, with generous portions, especially the crab menu.
The room itself is cozy. While it looks old, it perfectly embodies the serene, historic vibe I was looking for in this 1000-year-old onsen town.
For guests who prefer not to use the public baths, there is a small private onsen on site. Although it is much smaller than the public bathhouses, the quality is good and is a great option if you want to avoid crowds. I was lucky enough to have a very private bathing time there.
Its location is just off the main street but is centrally located, making it easy to walk to all the other public bathhouses.
What a wonderful little inn! The location alone feels like it’s out of this world — peaceful, beautiful, and full of character. The dinner at the inn was an absolute highlight: delicious, local, and clearly made with care. What really made the stay unforgettable, though, was the incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Their warmth and hospitality turned a lovely trip into something we’ll remember for a long time.

Before going to this Ryokan, I have some concern after reading some online reviews. However, we were happy with our stay and the scrumptious dinner and breakfast! The owner was so kind and helpful that she welcomed us with warm tea. She even prepared small towels for my son after she knew that he is going to the onsen too. When she saw that the yutaka is too big size for me, she asked the staff to change to a smaller size of yutaka and even helped me to wear it properly. There is no weird smell throughout our stay there, the room was a bit old, but it was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. We had a great stay there feeling like back to grandma house, thank you for the hospitality! 😊
