Traditional Japanese Inn (Ryokan). Friendly staff and they do recognise thier limitation in english. (Google translate is your friend people! ). Humble house with shared bathroom, public bath and private Shower. Each floor has a basin and toilet. Room are very specious compare to majority of hotel in japan. We actually wish that we stayed in these type instead of booking for a hotel. Aircon is strong. FREE coffee in the morning. Almost half price compare to other hotel. We will definitely come back.

Totally unacceptable schedule at 23h you close if or if and until 6h you can not enter.

部屋は綺麗では無いですが良い意味で風情のある和室で、布団に転がると程よい硬さで心地よくすんなり眠れました。お風呂も広くはないですが清潔で、十分リラックス出来ます。脱衣所が階段の真下で天井が斜めになってるのは…まぁご愛嬌ですかね（笑）朝ごはんの湯豆腐もとても美味しく頂けましたし、サービスにコーヒーも頂けましたし、とてもくつろげる旅館であることは間違いないです。ただ、壁は薄く、外人や学生の話し声は丸聞こえ、門限も早めなので、それを許せるならお値段にあった旅館です。

Easy to reach from kyoto station. Small rooms. No individual bathrooms. Thin walls (other guests might interrupt sleep)

Very good! close to the kyoto station&kind&reasonable price with decent quality.

Tatami accommodation is available on the first and second floors, and service staff help you with your bed every day. Rooms are larger than the average Kyoto hostel and are equipped with tea and refreshments.

Counter receiver is very kind, the environment is very clean, the room is very large and comfortable, but the soundproofing is slightly bad, bathhouse can take a bath very clean, highly recommended.

Humble looking building but decent facilities, very well cared for, and with excellent service. We will love to go back.

Perfect traditional ryokan, very central and with great private onsen and very nice staff.

I`ve never seen in my life more worst hotel than this. Hotel locate not so far from railroad station, but this`s the only ONE positiv point. Firstly, I found some insects in bathroom a spider and one slug on a wall, they were washed into sewage. Then I went in bed and it turns out that a blanket is a child-size, so my legs from lower half of shin were not covered and my bed was directly under air conditioner and it sould be on, i. E. Summer time. Therefore I went to the reception (it was something btw. 11-11:30 pm) where I found unfriendly reception-employee and she couldn`t understand me, what I want. After explaning she gave me seemingly not a fresh winter-blanket and run away on the second floor. 2 minutes waiting, nothing happens, nobody comes back, so I hang the blanket on the door of staff room and went after her to find out, why she gave me used blanket and in that moment this employee sneak through the second backward stairs on the ground floor and stole into her room. Before that, she thew the winter-blanket from the door down on a floor of foyer where the guests come in. Manner and style of this lady awake indignation in me. Then, I demanded to gave me a clean cover of the blanket, this takes more than 4-5 minutes. The winter-blanket she lay and spread on the floor of the corridor, then fold in four and piled up with other "unused" blankets in a closet. After all, as I went down in my room she said something in japanese behind my back.

I really enjoyed staying at this place. And I've seen many negative reviews complaining about the curfew they enforce here which I am ok with because it's part of the culture/experience that comes with staying at a ryokan. Nihonkan is located in spitting distance of Kyoto Station, surrounded by lots of bars/restaurants around, has a very courteous staff and establishes a very nice Japanese experience.

Great location, very close to the metro station. The owner is not very people friendly. He doesn't smile nor does he act happy. Service is good. Rooms are nice.

Very simple, but actually a very nice Ryokan at a pretty convenient location. Of course no great views, no dining and very simple bathrooms, but the room was spacious, you got fresh tea to make and the Wi-Fi was fine. Be sure to realize what a Ryokan is (you sleep on futons) and with the 11pm curfew rule which is well advertised and we didn't have issue with it — you get what you pay for. The main patron is a bit weird but if you are nice to him, he's nice back, and I can't corrobate the horror stories with strict bath end times, I stayed in the bath a bit longer once and it was fine.

Nice ryokan in a quiet district right near Kyoto station. Ideally located near bars and restaurants. The futons are really comfortable and the public hot bath is so good after a whole day visiting!

Very close to the station but in a quiet and sheltered. Always clean toilets and bathrooms. The room is not new but comfortable and clean.

The hotel is very close to the station, therefore if you're carrying a lot of luggage this wouldn't be too much of a problem. The staff were very friendly (Japanese style) and the place was pretty clean. The shower is pretty small, if you like your own space then this is not the place for you. Its like living in the best university halls. There is also the possibility to leave your luggage behind the counter (saves you 200 yen) which is highly convenient.

The price is quite low with a good room. But I don't feel any Japanese greetings or something kind as Japanese usually do. 3 stars.

A typical ryokan. There is internet in the entrance (on the tv) and you can only use it for 20 minutes; Although if you take computer there is an adjoining room where you can connect wired. There is no Wi-Fi.
Only one person speaks English and although very courteous was very dry. Curfew arrival and they are very strict, close to 23 o'clock.
