This summer I stayed at La Brocca in Valdichiaschio and the entire experience was wonderful and inspiring.
The views were stunning and the apartment I stayed in was clean and pristine and perfectly furnished with everything I could possibly need. The updated farmhouse’s original structure is almost 1000 years old and is located on ‘the camino’ between Assisi, Florence, and Rome. Many of the furnishings are repurposed and updated antiques or ‘found’ vintage objects, all fully functional and made all the more beautiful by the stories behind them or the places that they came from. The art on the walls was similarly collected from all parts of the world with all manner of history and stories behind them. The pool was clear and so refreshing (during a very hot period of summer) to have a swim and to get-to-know fellow guests staying in the other apartments, or to meet pilgrims passing through on their pilgrimages, coming from all parts of the world. Being in the country surrounded by the sounds of nature was the perfect antidote to the stresses of traveling and exploring big cities. The beds were comfortable and you could tell that love and care went into every part of La Brocca.
Marina was the perfect host. She is a master mosaic artisan and teaches mosaic-making classes of all kinds to small groups at a guest’s request. You can leave with a piece of art made by you, a new skill, and a greater understanding of the art of mosaics and their place in history.
One of the most beautiful places in Italy, surrounded by the Umbrian hills. The owner of the agriturismo, Marina is super nice. The apartments are spacious, perfectly clean and equipped with everything you would need. If you want to have a real rest in the middle of the nature sipping your drink at the poolside but not being too far from the medieval cities and the sea, this is the perfect place to stay.
