Borgo Macereto in Q&A

Information is provided based on reviews and may contain inaccuracies.

Where is Macereto located, and how accessible is the property?

The property is situated in a tranquil location in Tuscany, nestled in the hills 4 km from Dicomano and surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Guests highlight the stunning views and peaceful atmosphere away from city noise. However, opinions regarding the access road to the hotel vary: while some find it completely manageable for a standard car, others consider it hazardous, noting that it is a single-lane road that can be intimidating the first time.

How far is the property from major attractions and the airport?

The property is conveniently located for exploring Tuscany. Florence can be reached in about an hour by train from Dicomano, while Arezzo, Siena, and San Gimignano are a 1- to 1.5-hour drive away. Guests also note good transport accessibility from Bologna Airport.

How polite is the staff, and what is the quality of service at Macereto?

The vast majority of guests highly praise the staff—particularly Ilaria, Alessio, and Stefano—noting their kindness, hospitality, and readiness to help in any situation, including assisting with car issues. The team provides helpful recommendations for exploring nearby villages. However, there was one strongly negative review describing the service as substandard and the staff as incompetent.

What are the room amenities and cleanliness levels like in the apartments?

The apartments are described as spacious, atmospheric, and equipped with all necessary amenities, including air conditioning and full kitchens for meal preparation. However, there are conflicting reviews: one guest reported inadequate cleanliness, while another noted a lack of hot water, sticky floors, an unpleasant odor on pillows and blankets, and a non-functional bathroom drain.

Is there a swimming pool and other amenities on the premises?

The property features a large swimming pool surrounded by greenery, which most guests describe as very clean and ideal for cooling off during warm weather. However, one guest reported that the pool was unavailable despite being advertised in the description. The estate also produces its own wine and olive oil, which guests highly recommend trying.

Beautiful location in the quiet hills 4 km from Dicomano. The road is, contrary to other reviews, very well accessible by a normal car (4x4 is not required, just keep cool and keep on driving until you hit beautiful Borgo.
Macereto ;-). Illaria is very nice and kind and helps you with everything! The wine is amazing! The pool is large and very clean. It’s a 45 — 90 minute drive from several of the main attractions in Toscane. Also very worthwhile to drive up the Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi and visit some waterfalls. No foreign tourists around there :-) Great restaurants and agriturismos with vineyards in the area. The rooms are very clean and the atmosphere is authentic. We, a family of 5 with 3 kids, warmly recommend Borgo Macereto!

The pool was unavailable despite being advertised. The road to the target is dangerous. No breakfast option. Cleanliness poor.
Expensive and the service was completely substandard. We were billed for an extra bed, even though nothing worked. Drains don't flush, we had to buy toilet paper ourselves. There was a charcoal grill, but no charcoal.
I do not recommend this accommodation to anyone!
I feel betrayed.
