On our many Trips to Tuscany in the 80's we discovered this medieval domicile. This was and is the absolute top address in terms of ambience (especially if you like historic old castles and villas), the atmosphere, the quality of food and service. In addition, the unique location in the Chianti area, positioned high on a hill, perfect. We were once allowed to spend the night in the wedding room of Adriano Celentano, this room has a special charm, because here you could look directly through a wooden sliding hatch into the chapel/church, where the faithful had gathered for Mass. Has something.! Even the wine cellar deep in the basement of the old building with organized wine tastings is worth a trip. So, absolute top quality in every way is to be found here in a beautiful, old Castello behind mighty walls with idyllic courtyard in the middle of Tuscany. Super recommendation.

Arriving at Spaltenna Castle and Il Pievano restaurant means entering another space-time dimension. It's not just the wonderful location – a beautiful architectural complex of the Year of the Thousand nestled in the lush vegetation of Chianti – it's not just about the courtesy of the staff: it's the overall atmosphere that leads to another place and another time.

Then, once you sit down at the table, the Michelin-starred chef Vincenzo Guarino enters the scene, whose cuisine turns out, proposal after proposal, a concentration of gastronomic pleasures to which it is impossible to remain indifferent.

We tried the richest menu ("The Pievano"), consisting of six courses. In fact, before we even started, succulent starters are offered – the stuffed pepper was yummy. We will not review all the dishes, but let us mention "cod and chickpeas", a wonderful game of textures and temperatures that can enhance the flavors of raw materials. So it was the turn of the "Illusion of the risotto alla caprese", where the flavors blend without covering (this is our conception of haute cuisine) and where the final smoked note deserves a separate quote. Another great dish is the "Pigeon in the crust of Siena's earthen. The perfect cooking (blood) and the delicate caramelization make this flow a true poster of Guarino's culinary style.

Excellent location and food. Service was outstanding. Rooms were nice if a bit outdated style wise. Beds are VERY firm. Overall great place.

Impeccably remodeled monastery castle resort, spa and Michelin star restaurant. Stunning grounds. Fast Wi-Fi. Attentive and friendly staff. They helped us book wineries and plan our drive to Montalcino. Highly recommended and would stay there again.

We spent a wonderful 2 days here after 4 hectic days in Florence. We were not disappointed — the facilities were very good and the staff were really friendly and polite. The food was excellent. There was a lovely candle-lit buffet-style dinner by the pool one evening, which was very atmospheric. Our visit was a fantastic end to our week in Italy.

Serene, lovely vistas of hills, orchards and vineyards. Lovely rooms and baths, great service, glorious food. The swimming pool is inviting and refreshing. I was there for a celebratory anniversary, and the Castello handled each event beautifully. Pay a visit to the lovely pottery shop and studio in a separate building adjacent to the registration area.
