Rooms are spacious and clean. Strategic location between the sea and the old town. Fitness area to be totally improved. Parking supplied but almost never available. Breakfast too expensive. There are great alternatives under the hotel. Overall I would definitely go back.

Nice place to stay in Catania. The breakfast area outside is super relaxing and the waiters and staff are friendly and speak or understand English. Air-conditioning in the room is very good and helps escape the heat of the city at noon. The room itself is a little outdated — would have preferred a shower cabin instead of bath with shower and shower curtains. All in all great experience.

Unfortunately 1 or more nights a month i'm overnight for work in this hotel. So of the review of several dozen rooms that were assigned to me. Big reception, big outdoor parking, good restaurant… End! The rooms are to be forgotten, old, with dirty carpeting and heavy drapes, old bathrooms and with smelly plumbing. Often the air conditioner does not work or noisy. Trouble opening windows, risking mosquitoes! The hotel advises against it but without air conditioner you die if the sun beats. The gym is small but well stocked on the top floor. There would also be a sauna but for months (or years? ) it is under maintenance. Will it ever work? I don't like it.

I was from May 31st to June 4th. He needs urgent reform. It must have been a better time. Jesica's reception, when we arrived, offered a very regular attention… Until another reception person showed up, he was not willing to attend. The carpets fatal, the walls up with holes… It seems to lie a hotel like this with the situation and building that has to be in such bad condition.

Old and poorly preserved hotel. In the rooms terrible smell of sewage and water from the taps that smells of muriatic acid, I had to wash my teeth with the water of the bottle. It would be completely restored. Only positive notes the central location and the kindness of the staff.

The hotel had no AC and as a result the rooms were hot. They did give us a fan; which helped but wasn't great. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. The AC was a seasonal issue. Apparently the management controls it from somewhere else and shuts it off during the winter and doesn't turn it back on until May. The outside noises prevented leaving the window open through the night.

Very nice hotel. Good location. However, requested and was given a non smoking room that smelled very strongly of cigarette smoke.

For all Americans, hotel room is European sized, so expect it to be smaller than what you are used to, that includes the bed. Pros: Great breakfast. Nice location. Centralized by downtown. Farmers market on the weekend just located outside the door. Cons: showing its age. Water pressure is weak. Walls and doors are chipping off. Cracked marbled. No pool. Gym is small.

Hot little bearable in the room without air conditioning because in April not yet available, carpets and worn parades. Comfortable bed, good breakfast and staff always very nice: they always tolerated with a smile the demon of my son… Thanks Acceptable location 15 — 20 minutes by pleasant walk from the city centre…

Nice and well kept the lobby. The staff are friendly and polite. The Stamze leave to be desired: the maintenance should consist in total renewal. The TV leaves to be desired.

Located in a place where every Sunday is a market, this market is very nice.

Good location Good care.

The excelsior was a nice stay in Catania primarily because of it's location. It is centrally located and near many points of interest and restaurants. The hotel staff was very helpful and spoke English, if one needs that. The rooms are a bit outdated but they were comfortable. It was noisy at night though, especially facing the front of the hotel.

Elegant structure placed right in front of the court of Catania which is characterized by its classicism and elegance. The rooms, although clean, are a bit old-fashioned and may need some extra maintenance. Two examples. First of all the carpet, which undoubtedly presents the signs of time. Then, the bathroom door of my room, which did not close in any way. Situations like these, in an undoubtedly superior hotel like the Excelsior, are unfortunately not entirely tolerable. With regard to the quality of sleep-without prejudice to the perfect soundproofing of the rooms-I am forced to report the extreme hardness of the mattress and the pillows. Finally, a positive note, the hotel offers the free view of some premium TV channels (sports and cinema). All in all however, a pleasant stay.

It needs a renovation, it is very well located and has been a great hotel, but you have to renovate the rooms, the bathrooms, the painting, furniture. Its rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable but they are poorly insulated and you hear the outside noises. The right Breakfast.

The welcome was extremely spartan. She was not very cordial. We were given only the space card and the room number was told. We had to ask everything individually: when is breakfast? Where is breakfast? When is check-out? How to get to the Wi-Fi?
But the Porter, who would bring up our luggage and probably cost money, we were very much touted.
This is kind of a strong discrepancy: in a posh hotel, Porter's luggage is brought to the room. However, I also expect self-employed and friendly information!
The room was also far below expectations. The furniture looks like the 70s.
The carpet was patched and had partially broken spots.
The lamps and sockets were crooked and some light bulbs were not going.
There were only two free sockets in the room.
The bathroom was not very clean, the faucets were not perfect and the bar in the bathtub to hold the shower was broken and hung loose rum — quite obvious so it could overlook _niemand_.
Not bad, but also not handsome: the legs of the stool in the bathroom were very rusty.
Except for the bathroom all in all no broken leg, but completely inappropriate for a 4 star hotel.
The bathroom, on the other hand, is absolutely unacceptable!
The Etna view with which was advertised was also greatly exaggerated. On the 3rd floor you have seen the facades of the buildings opposite!
The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was very good.

Probably used to be a Grand Hotel. Now a little bit outdated. Would need some renovation. Beds are good though and rooms are large. Good for a stop over. Not for a holiday. Avoid the restaurant — there are many better (and cheaper) ones around.

Location that allows you to spend a pleasant aperitif and talk. Very friendly staff.

Very good room with a great view of Mount Etna. Excellent service. Very good breakfast — very close to Geno which I consider to be the best in Italy.

It's obvious once it was a great hotel but when the time I visited this hotel (i stayed there for 2 nights) it was old and not so well maintained. With a renovation it will be nice hotel again.

Great hotel, helpful friendly staff. Good sized rooms, clean and comfortable. Underground parking available which is really useful as the streets are always full. Good wheelchair access. I was able to park the car underground and take the lift to reception.

The hotel is okay, not the newest but everything you need. In the room, the bathtub was not completely clean. That was a huge disappointment. Above all, I find hygiene the most important. Breakfast was good. The salad we took in the restaurant was the worst. We ordered a salad with chicken for 15 euro, all we got was some lettuce, tomato, egg, some pieces of cooked chicken and the "special" orange mayonnaise. We saw the make that, he came with a cup of mayonnaise to the bar, took a slice of orange and put some drops in it, put his nose inside to smell and brought it to us. It had no taste different than normal mayonnaise. For being the most expensive dish on the bar menu I expected something better.

Well located. Rooms large and clean. Full bathroom. The Wi-Fi in 2015 were paid for and the gin and tonic from the bar to 12 €! Care! But I give it four stars because the breakfast buffet is truly spectacular.

You feel like you get into prestigious, upscale, but then you can't help but notice that the furniture of the rooms and common areas is very old and in some cases damaged by time. However cleanliness and comfort abound.

Hotel in the city centre, a few steps from the Court and at 5 minutes from the main streets of the movida Catania. Elegant and classy, clean and cozy, represents the quality standard by which every hotelier of the city is forced to deal for years.

Very nice. Good location, walking distance from the park, fountain, statue of st Agata, Etnea shopping street. Spacey rooms, some of them with a view of the Etnea volcano. If you are a non smoker, you should book your non-smoking room in advance. Staff was efficient. Breakfast very nice and nicely arranged also. It is just that the wall to wall carpet in the rooms needs to be changed. This is my only remark on the negative side. For a touristy visit I would recommend it as a nice place to stay.

Upscale hotel. Everything perfect, from the spacious the breakfast delicious. The staff is always available for every need.
Council to save a few euros: don't take taxis in front of the hotel.

The category does not correspond to it. Staff incompetent. The elevator was stopped between two floors and it took 1 hour to rescue us (8 people). We opened a trunk! That is to say staff is not qualified to do so. The maintenance technician subsequently appeared. And in addition with poor education of all staff.

NICE HOTEL, CATINIA IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED, trashy, Graffiti a lot of homeless people and McDonalds isn't open 24/7.

This place is not a 4 or 5 star hotel. It definitely needs to be updated as of September 2014. The place clearly caters to tour operators and you should worry if you see a tour bus in the parking lot (unless it is leaving). My first non-smoking reservation for a queen bed yielded two twin beds in a smoking room. When I was rebooked into my next room (the sliding door to the balcony did not close). I called maintenance and they informed me they would fix it the following day. When I returned from work – I checked the door and it was not fixed. When I complained again – I was upgraded to a suite. It was very spacious – but there was peeling plaster and the carpets in the room were dirty. Certainly not what one would expect from a suite. Because of overcrowding — I needed to check into the Il NH Parco degli Aragonesi on Sunday and then come back to the Excelsior on Monday. On Monday – they informed me that they did not have my reservation. They were able to find me a room (116) but it was at the end of the hallway, a smoking room and again had very dirty carpets. Although they said – they would change my room – this did not happen despite repeated requests. At breakfast, one morning – I used a napkin as a plate because they had run out. I also had to clear the dirty dishes from my table. I would say this place is understaffed and just milking the revenue the property can generate without upgrading, repairing or maintaining the facilities.

Hotel 4 stars, quite adequate but that they charge the Wi-Fi in the room from 7 to 18 euros or 5 euros for breakfast eggs or toast 6 euros there also lies.

Bell'Albergo with necessity of reorganization of staff. Front desk staff, restaurant staff rude and disorganized. Not up to par.
