Maison Borella

Our first trip to Milan and we started our journey with a stay at this fabulous hotel. Starting with a phone call from the US to clear up a reservation issue prior to arriving, right up until the moment a taxi was secured for us as we departed, the staff were all kind, accommodating, and attentive. Our room was impeccably clean, our morning breakfast offered espresso to hard boiled eggs to pastries to meats and cheeses. This meal was the perfect way to start our day. We travel frequently and in my mind, it is the generosity of the staff which always sets the stage for a stay. I highly recommend Maison Borella! Grazzie Mille to all who work here!

We had a slight mix‑up with our booking, but it was sorted out before arrival with absolutely no drama. Upon checking in, we were warmly greeted and immediately felt at ease.
Hotel Maison Borella is a very traditional Italian property, and it gives off a wonderfully warm, authentic atmosphere. The building itself dates back to the 1700s, later refurbished into the hotel in 2015, and it really shows in the best possible way.
Many original features have been beautifully preserved, stone floors, wooden beams, and exposed brick walls, all thoughtfully blended with modern comforts.
There are some reviews mentioning noise from outside when stopping in the front rooms, and I can understand why given its location along the lively Naviglio Grande. However, we stayed in one of the wings overlooking the courtyard and weren’t disturbed at all.
Our room was simple but comfortable, with a good shower, cooling and reliable Wi‑Fi. Breakfast was perfectly adequate, with some standout touches such as the homemade quiche, very enjoyable scrambled eggs, and coffee made properly from a real machine.
The bar service was okay, perhaps a little slow at times, but nothing that detracted from the experience. Check‑out was smooth and straightforward.
Would I stay here again? Absolutely.
The location is perfect for exploring and enjoying the Naviglio Grande nightlife, and the hotel’s charm and history make it a delightful place to return to.

We have just returned from a family break with two of our teenage children. This hotel is superb. We had canal view rooms and, yes you can hear the nightlife from the wonderful/ vibrant Navigli area,. However it didnt negatively impact our stay and we loved having the bars, restaurants, and the monthly sunday antique market right on our doorstep. We walked almost everywhere (a little over 20 mins to the Last Supper and under mins to the Duomo, all flat through interesting areas). However the hotel is well positioned for the tram and metro services.
The rooms are well decorated, comfortable and good sizes. The staff work so hard to make the guests happy.
We will definitely be back.

I had a fantastic stay at Maison Borella. What a great value for the price. The property is beautiful and I was lucky enough to have a room facing the canal. The staff was kind and helpful, allowing me to check in early with no issues. The rooms are simple but very clean and the bed extremely comfortable The robes and slippers were such a nice touch as well! The Navigli district is so fun and vibrant and was such a great location to be in at night. To note, it is a little noisy because you are in a prime, busy location but nothing that I minded nor that a little white noise couldn’t fix! I will absolutely recommend Maison Borella to friends/ family as well as stay again when back in Milan.

Hotel was outstanding. Situated on the canal. Very clean and friendly helpful staff. We knew being on the canal it would not be the quietest of locations but ear plugs are provided. It would be good to have a mirror in the room as well as the bathroom but this is a minor point. The restaurant we were a little disappointed with as the food was only lukewarm and when mentioned the staff could have handled differently. However with that said the food was amazing.

Draped in greenery and accessed through a cobblestone courtyard, this hotel is very romantic looking. However, the location is in the midst of Milan's biggest party zone. Did we know this before we booked? No. The street noise is incredible. Even with double-glazing and wooden shutters firmly shut, I had to sleep with ear plugs on, fortunately provided by the hotel. The weekend party noise continued until about 2 or 3am. It is intense. And to be avoided unless you are into the party yourself. That said, the team here is helpful. Their advice during the transport strike was extremely useful and their advice on how to get to Pavia was perfect. If you are here during a general transport strike, consider taking the tram. They were not involved in this round. The breakfasts were also very good — actually the best we had on this recent Italian trip. The restaurants to the left of the hotel are also good. It's a wonderful location, smallish room but comfortable and staffed by helpful and knowledgeable people. But it's so noisy…

We stayed 2 night here. Lovely boutique hotel in a great location. Staff were really friendly and the hotel and rooms really clean.
The rooms were a little on the small side but we were only staying for 2 night so perfectly fine. Rooms were clean and comfortable beds. We had rooms overlooking the courtyard, which were quiet at night (some reviews say canal facing rooms were noisy at night)
The location was perfect, right in the canal, with plenty of bars and restaurants right on your doorstep. Really enjoyed staying in Navgali area… great friendly vibe and not too far from the centre.

The location is divine with tons of shops and retail near it. It's also near metros, trams and buses you can get anywhere in Milan within 30 minutes by public transport. Staff is one of the nicest I've met whenever you lose their key they will sort it out for you. Breakfast was great but can't rate the dinners as we did not go there. Rooms were nice and cozy spacious bathrooms and comfy beds. Overall I would recommended this to any travellers or families stay for anywhere under a week. I recommend different variants of rooms for different groups.

Whose idea was to put the family room facing the main street? Honestly, it is beyond stupidity plus not telling people when booking the room on the phone that “hey, with a 5 year old kid don’t book this room” is mean. The party goes by the canal until 2am, then at 5.30am the binmen empty the glass bottle bins. For 290€ per night the floor was dirty, the showerhaed had a thick layer of limescale on it like it was never cleaned in the past few years…. On the positive side there are rooms not facing the street and the concept of the hotel is nice. The reception area and around is designed perfectly.

Fun, bohemian style hotel right on a canal with lots of restaurants steps away. Common areas are stylishly decorated and the outdoor back patio is a quiet refuge from the bustling streets. Very nice breakfast included. Our room was perfectly nice, except the bathroom door wouldn't close without picking it up and the air conditioning was off for the season so the room was hot. Unfortunately, there were no screens on the windows and Milan is known for mosquitos. I would suggest inquiring about the AC before booking if temp is important to you.
