➜ Gemma of the Lepontine Alps, because unknown to most people, this place is a pristine and peaceful environment located in the beautiful setting of the Lake Piano Nature Reserve. The lake, of glacial origin, is a modest body of water interposed between Lario and Ceresio. It has an area of 0.72 square kilometers and a maximum depth of 13 m; In a couple of hours you can visit the reserve and spot numerous aquatic and migratory species. We recommend a stop at the reserve house for tourist information and the fortified medieval village of Castelsanpietro. In winter, if temperatures drop well above zero, the surface of the water freezes and becomes a tourist attraction of the territory. In the past there was the custom of crossing the frozen lake with a wagon to find firewood.
