Hotel Sonenga

If you are looking for a simple and afforable place to sleep I highly recommend this hotel. It is not in the centre but is only 5 minutes with a car. They have private parking with an additional fee. The room was basic but has everything you need and a comfortable bed. Very clean! The staff was very welcoming and friendly. They have a pool in the summer months. Highly recommend.

We have just finished 3 nights at the hotel Sonega. We are a family of 4 (with 2 teenage children)
The room was perfect size and very spacious. Lovely terrace with table, chairs and umbrella.
Family run and family friendly hotel. Could always get a subbed by the pool. Ate breakfast outside round the pool each day. Great selection and had some savoury bits like scrambled eggs which I was happy with as not used to sweet breakfasts! Rest of the family appreciated the croissants tho 😊
Lovely lemoncello spritz! Does serve dinner but we didn't get round to trying it.
About a 10 minute walk down to the main part and this was good for us as meant the hotel was peaceful and worked off our dinner on the way back to the hotel. Cooler by then so the walk back was no trouble. Would definitely come back!

We had a great time at the hotel! It’s a terrific budget-friendly hotel that was incredibly clean, family run (and made us feel like family! ) has great service, an awesome pool to swim in during the hot afternoons, etc. Just prepare yourself for the walk up and down to the town… about 15 minutes away and my 3 year-old struggled a bit but we managed just fine. The food was also great, we ate dinner there a few times (and the best Limoncello Spritz I had was there). And the breakfast was also terrific! A wonderful place away from the busy town.

We are having a wonderful stay at Hotel Sonenga. The beautiful Kadeeja, who it was clear to us works very hard, and all the staff at the hotel have looked after us very well and it is very appreciated.
The lovely breakfast with a wide variety of options and the clean and spacious room has been great. The hotel's location on the hill above Menaggio gives a quiet atmosphere and beautiful views, especially from the lovely pool area.
We reserved parking and the hotel ensured there was a space for us every day.
It will be sad to leave!

Booked back in June 2024, amazing experience for the first time in Italy. Great service provided by the staff on hand. Overall great time and I recommend this hotel. Hope to return one day!

We booked our stay at the Hotel Sonenga in Menaggio after realizing that accommodations in Varenna were beyond our budget. It proved to be an excellent choice. Although the ticket lines were often long, the location is a short (15 minute) ferry ride across from Varenna. Our room on the second floor offered a partial but sweeping view of Lake Como from a large terrace shared with an adjoining room. We were pleased with the comfortable bed and the modern, clean bathroom. Although the hotel itself is small, it includes a restaurant offering a sumptuous breakfast. In fact, the service was so pleasant and the food so well prepared that we chose to eat our dinners there as well. The location off a quiet street above most of the town insured that we slept very well. It is a steep walk from the ferry dock, but this seventy-year-old man found it quite manageable, even toting a full backpack.

Very good service (English, france & italy as languages), location ok, clean place but maybe rooms are pretty simple. Views are awesome still! Breakfast was plenty and restarraunt food was good.
Family business which gave warm and caring feeling.

The hotel was a good choice for a short stay. Good size and clean room with patio — overooking trees (unfortunatelly other guests used it to smoke). Breakfast was adequate, staff friendly, parking (extra charge). Facilities in room were basic. Wifi regularly disconnected. The location is about 800m from the centre of Menaggio (walk up hill on the way back). Overall good stay and everything was as advertised.

We had an amazing time at Hotel Sonenga. The rooms are very clean and spacious, ours had a balcony with a view. The pool was amazing, with lots of loungers available for use. We learned it is a family run business, and we were very impressed with the service given, especially from the two hard working and friendly kids. We will definitely come back here next time.

Great Hotel for a good Price. Room was clean and had a good Mountain view. Would always come back to this Hotel for a Short Trip.

This hotel is a Sure stay if în Menaggio.
The host and staff are always doing the extra mille. We arrived late after 10 im the evening and the owner waited us to make sure all is OK. We catch a very rainy day and the 2 ladies bring for us 2 umbrellas for both of us to make sure we willngo and visit around. The room is much better than the pictures, it's very clean, they come every morning and clean. Although outside we're 10-15 degrees they heat the rooms and hotel.
Breakfast has a lot of choices for plenty of days and tasts.
During hot season you can enjoy the pool and parking is available.
I totally RECOMMEND this Hotel!

Great hotel with friendly staff. Quick walk to the water by sidewalks and stairs. Be aware it is a relatively steep walk back up to the hotel.
They have a great pool area as well.

The room was huge with a big balcony and view to the mountains and a bit of the lake. Nice room with comfortable bed, big and nice shower. The staff was really kind and helpful! It is a pets friendly hotel. It is 15' away from the center of Menaggio.
There was no air conditioning and the fan they had was very noisy and could not stay up right. The hotel is pets friendly but the neighbours are not and that's a pity! Even though it is 15' away from Menaggio the way back is uphill so you need to consider that.

The hotel's stuff is extremely helpful and kind. The suit apartment for the family of four at the first floor with terrace was basic, the furniture a bit old. Good for stay for a few nights. Breakfast was ok.

We enjoyed our stay here, our room was very large with a great patio/porch with lake views and the bedroom also had a view. The pool was a nice relaxing area after the walk to the hotel, but as everyone else has mentioned it's a long uphill wall from town (over 125 stairs plus other hills) so get ready, the views are nice though! The on site Breakfast was nothing special, you can find better in town for cheaper. The biggest complaint was the weak Wi-Fi, for a 3 star hotel it needs to have a Wi-Fi booster to reach the unattached guest house.

Absolutely lovely hotel.
Prons: Clean rooms with nice bathrooms, amazing view of the mountains and garden, soft and comfortable beds, nothing is to much for the staff — starting from the owner and his son, the cleaning staff, serving staff — all smiles and helpfull. Breakfast amazing that suits every taste-reminded me of my home country actually, an abundance of fruit, bread, rolls, cakes, eggs, cereals, juices cheese the list goes on. Nice coffee. We didn't use the pool because of the weather and we also had to leave earlier than expected.
Cons: Wi-Fi wasn't very good.
If you have mobility issue you need to consider that this hotel is very high up from the town centre so you will need to walk many steps up the hill — unless you have a car then don't worry of course.
I would definitely recommend and if I'm ever back will stay there for sure.
