Our first visit to Lake Como took us to Domaso, and we couldn’t have chosen better. The northern part of the lake offers a wonderfully peaceful, authentic vibe, quite different from the busier, more touristy southern towns. The views across the lake are stunning, and it’s a great base for exploring both sides of Como by ferry.
Hotel Vischi truly exceeded expectations for a 3-star. We booked a family suite, which was spotless, spacious, and comfortable with tiled floors and modern amenities. Breakfast was a highlight — a generous spread of fresh fruit, cereals, breads, nuts, yoghurts, cold meats, and eggs — a great start to each day.
A special mention to Bruno at reception (an Italian Londoner! ), who was exceptionally helpful. When we got stranded at Colico station late at night due to poor transport connections, he arranged a taxi for us at the last minute — after a long travel day from Manchester, this was a huge relief. He also provided excellent recommendations for hikes, bike rides, and local restaurants.
The hotel offers some nice extras too — you can book the spa privately for an hour (which gives it a luxurious touch) and borrow hotel bikes for gentle rides around the area (just note they’re best for flat routes, not mountain trails).
