Sadly when we went, there was none of the plaster bodies on display. But it is still an awesome place to walk around and spend the day. We didn't take a guided tour and I am glad. I prefer to wander on my own. However, these groups can clog narrow streets and passageways, trying to not get stuck with one can be challenging at times. The size of the excavations is truly impressive. One final note of caution, the parking lots near can be shady, be careful when dealing with them. Also, you can haggle with the street vendors over pricing and can actually get a good deal on souvenirs.

Needless to say, that is an impressive site and a must-visit if you travel to Naples. A couple of tips: it is worth paying for the guided tour, given that it is a place full of history and every monument has a story. It is very large and if you do not want to miss between the stones and lose what is important I recommend hiring a guide. On the other hand keep in mind that you must go well prepared: comfortable shoes, water, sunscreen, especially if you go in the summer. It is a site very open, with few areas of shadow.

Must visit if you travel to Naples. It's an impressive place, well preserved and with a lot of history. You can do tour with a guide (I think it cost around 12€). The visit, to see at least the most important points, lasts several hours. There you go with comfortable shoes and if you go in the summer with water and sunscreen because there is not even a shadow. The entrance fee is 15€ and to the side of the ticket office there is an information office where you get maps and guides (free) from the ruins. We do not hire a guide, but we apañamos well with the pamphlets of information.

The place is worth the visit though if you are going without a guide and without guide audio is a little messy. A lot of heat, wear hats. You can enter food. The staff of the entrance and ticket office is very unfriendly and nothing attentive, there was no explanation in English in brochures.

Awesome visit, but we fell into the guided tour trap. Very little added value compared to the money paid. Plus they charge you full entry price yet buy a group ticket, so discount obviously included for them without giving any receipts. You're better off visiting the visitors centre and then taking a walk through Pompeii. You will learn just as much.

This place was amazing! We had a wonderful guide named Marco. If you can get him you will love his story telling ability. There is so much to see. We barely scratched the surface in 1.5 hours. You could spend days exploring different corners of this 750 acre place. The site is very clearly labeled with "regions" and numbers… just like blocks and street addresses in the U. S. Take a guide book, lots of water and a small bag. They don't like back packs inside and may make you put it in storage. Give yourself time to explore and wear shoes you don't mind getting dirty.

Very impressive. The last two Hours until the Closure there is quite a little going on, so you have whole Streets to yourself. And please reasonably sturdy Shoes because of the Patch.

It is a very important place from the historical and archaeological point of view because it allows us to see how it was a Roman city very structured and organized in the 1st century AD. It's a wonderful historical testimony.

An amazing experience! Easy to get to by train. Free public water taps are situated everywhere, so no need to worry about running out of water, and there's a cafe inside with a variety of food options and toilets upstairs. Also free toilets around halfway in to the city. The roads are extremely uneven so wear good shoes (not sandals), and you'll need to pick up one of the free maps at the entrance, otherwise it's very easy to get lost. Overall a great experience, and there are so many amazingly preserved sights. €15 entry if you pay at the gate.

Is super beautiful just you should go in the morning or in the evening it is very hot. So good to smear. ;)

Very big. But there were not as many people as I thought. That is, NOT EAT in or out of the enclosure. It's a scam. Expensive and bad. Frozen Lasagna.

Pompeii stretches over a huge Area, making it a Kind of Labyrinth. There's something to discover around every Corner. Buildings range from the Mansion, Bakery and Spa, to the Brothel. It's just impressive to see what People have already created as early as 79 AD.
In Pompeii you can also spend a whole Day, marvel and imagine how the Inhabitants lived at that time. I recommend taking Part in a Guided tour that also explains the Background to the various Ruins.
The €13, 00 admission Is definitely worthwhile — a unique Setting.

Pompeii is really very impressive. And significantly larger than expected.
Depending on how you want to visit it, you should allow a lot of Time. Just want To take a closer look here and there and run around and back once you should plan 3h. If you want To see everything, you should really plan the whole Day 10h +.
Unfortunately, it's very touristy. You can already see that looking for in the Parking lot. If you Drive on the Main Road you are already harassed by People in the middle of the Road who want to loot you into their Parking lot. I found a nice Parking space for 2 Euros per 1h.
Admission to Pompeii costs 15 Euros per person.

Pompeii was an amazing experience for myself and my family. We spent five hours walking around and I guarantee we still didn't see everything Pompeii has to offer, especially since some of the sites were closed for the preservation process. I recommend that you bring snacks and drinks because the food facilities are limited so they get very busy. It's a beautiful historic city that I feel fortunate to have visited. I highly recommend this experience to everyone who is physically able to walk for long periods of time, but definitely wear comfortable shoes.

Impressive. Highly recommended to get lost in the streets. It's much better than it was seven years ago when I worked there.

You Must have seen that if you've Been here before, you take that with you.
Little Tip for those who want to look at Mount Vesuvius afterwards: It is also offered there to be taken to Vesuvius and back for 20 Euros per Person. Accepts this Offer! It's worth it, because 2 km before you are up, the Car has to be left standing and you have to run the Track unnecessarily extra. Believe me it doesn't sound like much, but you will need the Pusts. Have Fun on Holiday.

What is to be said? An absolute Must for everyone historically interested. We were guided through an official Guide Through the Park and it was incredibly exciting to experience history so close!

Needless to say it is an awesome site and a mandatory visit if you are traveling to Naples.

Awesome, a must… the story that involves not just because of what happened there, if not for the story of how it was in its day, that city. This excellently preserved and very well-prepared for your visit to the tourism. You can't miss it at all.

Not to be missed if you visit Naples or surrounding areas. Much larger than I ever imagined and even more interesting with a good guide. So much to see and take in. Visited in October and weather was pleasant one drawback I could see was the lack of shade anywhere so would assume may be a bit uncomfortable in height of summer.

Read the books, seen the movies but Nothing prepares you for the actual place. A walk back through History that has to be experienced. We had a great guide but in a big group he wad wasted so we pretty much did our own tour & enjoyed ourselves immeasurably… it is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful and so much history… couldn't believe the amount of access we were allowed… reasonably priced for meals ETC in the immeadiate vicinity! Definitely 5 Stars.

If you visit Naples you MUST visit this incredible Roman city. You need definitely one full day to explore the city because the place is vast. Take sports comfortable shoes and take this tour to the ancient history. The ticket is decent I think (7.50€) with a free guidebook and map (available in many languages). The mount Vesuvius is there at the distance to remind you how the power of nature can change the life of thousands. Tip: 1) I will not tell you the must see places because this is not the way to explore this city. 2) Take a guide (human guide I mean). Don't just walk around and miss the history of this city.

Essential visit for the fans of Roman history. It is an amazing place to miss watching from well preserved buildings to small details of daily life in ancient Pompeii.

Just impressive what was excavated here. Sometimes the pictures on the walls are still colourful as if the whole thing was the day before yesterday. In summer, do not forget the headgear.!

What’s thoroughly amazing place! First thing! But your tickets online at the official website or at the actual gate. They will be much better priced. Second Thing! Walk around and look at everything, don’t just take photos of the place. It’s such an amazing place that you need to stop and think about the history here. Finally… Walk through the tunnels where Pink Floyd played, I’m not a fan but found it fascinating. Great day out!

If you want to see the whole Roman city very well preserved or you like history, you can't miss it.
The best and cheapest is to rent a car in Rome and enjoy the city at you pace.
There is plenty of parking at the entrance.
It is not necessary to book unless it is full summer.
Too bad they don't take care of it properly.

Pompeii, historical, exciting its ancestor life and what today is lived in a society. Interesting, organized and the guide very knowledgeable of its history.
The Turi bus, very good guide both indicating their places how special with all of us who went to share the journey.

I had no idea how vast this place is! Amazing archeology and the level of preservation adds to the interest, for example tracks from the wheels of carts in the roads. The entrance fee is very good value. We hired the audio guides which were disappointing. If time is limited, I would advise a professional guide to extract the places of major interest. We meandered around at leisure and spent the day there. Two days would probably be preferable if you're a true history geek and want to look at the finer details. We ate in the pizza restaurant on the site as we were there for the whole day. Terrible customer service, very average fast food and overpriced.

You don't have to say much. Simply breathtaking point however, there is hardly any shadow; Therefore, in summer, urgently take enough to drink.

The archaeological and historical significance of Pompeii is well known. What really impressed us is the size of the ruined city and still partly well-recognizable earlier uses. Whether food stall, bathhouse, brothel, market or theatre, even today you can immerse yourself in bygone times. You will often be amazed at how far the culture of the people was at that time. Benken, however, it should be said that the visit is not planned too short. It's best to take a whole day. The journey can be easily done by train from Naples or Salerno. The Pompeii train station is not far from the museum. In the complex there are toilets and a restaurant that is quite crowded in summer though. So best to pack enough drinks and Vespers. Really worth seeing! It's so much bigger than you thought and there's so much to discover! Definitely visit if you are nearby or I was from Rome with the express train in 1h10min in Naples and then went on with the Vesuvbahn. Very impressive ruins with the still active Vesuvius in the background!

I do not comment on the beauty and importance of this visit because it seems obvious. Comfortable shoes, dressing "onion" because during the day, staying in a sunny area, the temperature that we perceive changes, water (there are also fountains internally), and prepare to walk so much. For this last reason I recommend, to those who want to visit it all and for good, to divide the visit in two days. The entrance and parking are not a gift, but it is absolutely worth it.

Pompeii is very beautiful and very big. Absolutely recommended the visit.
It is a city so it takes a long time if you want to see everything, while if you want to see the major ' attractions ' it is enough half day.
In my opinion the information in the various buildings is enough to understand context and know the history, without having to buy the booklets that sell you along the road that leads to the entrance of the park and that do not add much to what is inside.
I'm just sorry that some frescoes are left there, accessible to anyone without even some protection. In many homes/buildings There is the staff that controls but in many others the access is free and unchecked.

Excellent to make a visit with the family, especially if you like history and archeological ruins. He wears comfortable and light clothes, and shoes suitable for walking all day in this area. We were staying in Naples and with 2, €80 to head for treats we reached the site with the Circumvesuviana. As soon as we entered the archaeological site we had the impression of going back in time. I did not think to find so many ruins so well preserved compliments to archaeologists of the excellent work performed. Entrance to the site with affordable prices but the guides make money in spades we could not find an officer… Be careful. I don't recommend hanging a small pizza outside the station side site, they cheated us by sending us to eat the pizza to take away to sit letting us pay the covered and soft drinks as if coming from Mars.

Beautiful scenery. It was a cheap price to enter and the cafeteria was full of nice food and refreshing water. Friendly dogs are around the area but they won't bite, in fact you can just walk up and pet them. The only issue is the first thing you see when you enter the site is a petrified dog and a petrified baby strewn on the ground.

The experience is fantastic. If you don't wanna pay for a guide get the App. The App will explain the story of the various sites and explain the day to day life of the city. There is no food in the site (except a tiny pizza place) be prepared on the food side or you could be starving. There are few way to get to this place but I only ever got here with a car and pay for the parking. I know you could get the train here but I never done it my self. If you come here in the summer be prepared for the extreme heat!

Truly a unique experience, although the actual ruins are less impressive than expected. Have visited other ancient sites in Turkey, Jordan, Syria, Egypt and they stand out greater. Biggest annoyance was parking. There's an "official" looking group of people in yellow shirts that offer free parking if you buy some of their offerings. They literally lied to us about which gate we were allowed to access, getting two opposing stories from two people. In addition, the city parking meters are horrendous to use (maybe purposely done to wear you down into using their parking). In order to add minutes to the meter, you need to use excessive finger pressure and it increments by five minutes. So if you plan to stay for a few hours it's a lot of pushing and your finger is sore by the end of the process.

What an incredible place. You really need to visit! Wheelchair access is difficult at times but not impossible. There has been a lot of time and thought put into the accessibility and it made for a very enjoyable trip.

From the first steps you find yourself immersed in ancient Rome and you perceive how life could be at the time.
The excavation is easy to access both in the car, because there is a car park next to the entrance (2. €50 the hour), either by train because the stop is right in front of the entrance to the site.
The duration of the visit is about 4 H of good pace if not even more than 6.
I highly recommend the visit in summer (this year you could not stay from the AFA that was there).
At least once in life Pompeii is to be seen.

A Roman archaeological site to be seen absolutely.
Ruins, sometimes very well preserved, will carry you in the history of this ancient city destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Vesuvius. I loved it. Magnificent!

Awesome experience. You will see amazing remains of the ancient Roman life as well as evidence of its tragic end. Truly shocking. A must see. It's not very easy to get in, takes a good hour or so to get a ticket. Info system needs improvement so I think a full day is needed to explore. Carry plenty of water and some snack. Believe me: it's worth it.

The excavations of Pompeii do not need presentations, they are famous all over Italy and in the world. Kept and kept pretty well (unlike what you saw on TV), it's definitely worth a visit. The admission ticket is about 13 euros, the archaeological area is very large so you have to equip yourself with comfortable shoes and umbrella (if the day is at risk rain) and devote all day to visit the site. Inside there is a refreshment point but it is quite expensive and nothing special (not a bad idea to bring the sandwiches and water from home). If possible to avoid holidays because there could be a lot of people. Parking is not a problem, there are several although a bit expensive having to leave the car all day.

Very well exposed. I advise at least 6 hours. Inside is for eating, drinking, ice cream, etc. There are sources to drink. I would recommend using the street names of the blueprints with the names on the same streets and not with codes. It's hard to locate. Advisable 100%. Advisable to buy tickets right here and not out they charge commission.

Spectacular historic Place. Amazing witnessing in time a city so old, is a unique place in the world. Very interesting to know the daily life and the people of that time. Super Nice The patios of the houses, the neighborhoods of the rich, shops, amphitheater and Colosseum. Really impressive. It's a nice day too. I don't recommend for hot days as there are no shadows.

You have to be prepared to walk, it is bigger than one would believe. It is well signposted and there are places with good food and coffee inside. All this apart from the beauty and the interesting of the site.

It's really impressive. But you should take a complete day to look at everything in peace. The entrance is not very cheap, but it is worthwhile all the times. You can also download an app, then you see the individual buildings as they looked at that time. We did the whole thing in conjunction with a climb to the trial and we were impressed.

Simply unforgettable. Petrified human figures filled with horror. A huge city with a large infrastructure, which covered the volcano for a few moments. Whole body just goes through the feelings of panic and hopelessness those people who died so many years ago. And at the same time offers a very beautiful view. From all sides of the mountain. And of course Vesuvius!

Amazing historical park. Very well preserved and made available for tourists of all kinds. In The interior, fairly close to the main entrance (Puerta Marina) there is a bar/cafe to rest and drink or eat something. Worth every corner.

Wow, Just Wow. Found a newspaper article from Mary Beard online and she suggested the following. Take an empty water bottle, there are plenty of places to fill it up. Remember cover for your head or a parasol. Go up all the small lanes and if you see an open door go through it! The only open up certain houses intermittently. I wandered up a back street away from all the guided tours, went through a small door and was alone (apart from a helpful lady) with the most wonderful wall paintings. Although the best part was sitting quietly in the shade of a doorway in a lane watching the world go by.

Takes all day but worth it. The buildings are impressive (although it is unclear how much is original, rather than modern reconstruction), but possibly the most impressive thing is that it feels like a complete city. Warnings: 1. Wear practical shoes and carry water. 2. There is only one, not very good, café on site, and no reentry on the ticket. 3. Many of the best houses are only open in either the morning or the afternoon.

Great! If you have the opportunity, be sure to visit. Parking at the entrance 3€ per hour. Left the car in free Parking at Auchan and walked 20 minutes on foot.

Pompei is magical! I've booked a tour which was approximately $150 for a full day tour from Rome. There might be other ways to get there, but if you go alone the tour is probably the easiest way to do it. You will need at least 2 hours to visit all the places. Make sure you follow a guide so you can learn interesting facts about the ancient people who lived there.

Very cool place, if you want to know the life of people 2000 years ago. It is incredibly thoughtful of the city. 've been here for 5 hours.

Ok so Pompeii was WAY cooler than I anticipated, and I had pretty high expectations going in. My biggest complaint was the line to get tickets. I wish we'd just done the tour but I was with a group that didn't agree. You could only buy online tickets ahead of time (not same day). They had ONE cashier and it took forever. So poorly organized. BUT, worth the wait. The city and ruins were incredible. I couldn't have imagined the scope of this place without seeing it for myself. It was pouring rain the day we went and that didn't even ruin the experience.

Landmark five stars. Well-organized access to the antiquities. All the houses are numbered — easy to navigate around the map. Minus for the service that the Queue for tickets
With a pram you can go only through the main streets. Basically you need to be on hand. When buying a ticket we were told (and not only us) that a wheelchair can pass easily.

Contrary to most of the reviews I have read, do not go in the morning. It is cooler in the afternoon as the wind will start to pick up. That said, make sure you take plenty of water and walk in the shade wherever possible. There are taps in the old water fountains that are safe to drink from, the old lead piping has been replaced. Pompeii is a truly unique site. I spent 5 hours there and covered only about half. While some parts of it are all quite similar, careful exploration will reveal hidden gems of beautifully preserved frescos and mosaics. A map helps but is not essential, as does a guide. I found that some research before going helped identify features and add context. Tour groups tend to stick to similar areas and do not cover much of the site. Entrance to the site is half price for 18-24s, but you will need formal ID like your passport. However, entry is only 13 euros standard and this price is worth it. I thoroughly recommend comfortable, sturdy footwear as much of the ground is uneven. There are special paths to allow wheelchairs and strollers to access the site but they do not cover a large area. As expected, there is ongoing work all over the site to restore and make the buildings more safe. It is part of the conservation process and a necessary inconvenience. In most places there is a bit of an explanation as to what they are doing too.

Just awesome. Provide at least 3 h for a "quick" visit. Parking side do not stop at the entrance to Pompei or there are all the touts. Continue straight ahead you will find places along the road a little further paying but cheaper.

For me it is better to go there from 9 am, at the opening. There is a train/RER that stops right next door, which is very convenient. I find this option better than to go by car and leave it on the parking provided facing the entrance. Your car will however be supervised with confidence by the placers. Be careful not to fall into the trap of parking on restaurant parking, otherwise you will be forced to eat there. When you get there early, you will avoid all the tourists who will arrive a little later.
I advise to be careful or you put your feet because many people are hurt by falling. The sidewalks are very high and the fall more substantial. My wife fell and luckily she did not hurt herself.
Take the time to enjoy the various cobbled streets, the shops at the beautifully preserved counters and then the inevitable ruins. You can also discover the petrified bodies of the inhabitants.
Think about taking a bottle of water as it is very hot and there is not much shade. There are also water fountains.
The morning will certainly not be enough to see everything, but take the time.
Last tip, take a plan because it is very easy to get lost.

Great ride in the ruins of the ancient city still overlooked by the Vesuvius. The state of conservation really makes it possible to imagine the life of the time. A huge and very well preserved site. To see absolutely. Tips: See front documentaries to know at least what an atrium is (it's not rocket science is very good) and take the plan/booklet of excavations that give simple and clear explanations to each landmark (region/No) on the site. Or take a guide …

A place that is well loaded with history. Very nice visit but not very convenient for some people. A huge site with still a lot to discover. The baths are beautiful, of stabies and of the Forum.

The place is quiet, clean, and discreet, distance from the centre of Pompei and the excavations.

Very convenient location as it's so close to the Pompeii ruins. Staff friendly and the room good. Breakfast continental in style and pleasant. Rooms have a safe, mini bar, air conditioning and TV with a reduced selection of satellite channels. Ours was en suite. Road noise could sometimes be heard but not a huge problem.

Excellent hospitality in a beautiful country. The new rooms are fantastic.

I have to say that the hotel is in a great location, about a quarter of an hour walk from the excavations and many from the station of Pompeii — Villa of the Mysteries, in which you can take the trains of the Circumvesuviana in the direction Napoli or Sorrento. In addition, it is necessary to say that the cost of our stay was very affordable. Next to this there are so many small things that made our stay in this hotel not quite comfortable and it is right to get out of here so that those who come to this property to know that you will be staying in a hotel logistically convenient and cost effective but without too many pretensions: the cleaning of the rooms was impeccable, the operation of the air conditioner was not very clear and there was no instruction booklet in this regard, the power outlets in the room were few, and none of the universal, the reception was very friendly but quite detached. That said, I feel I am certainly recommending it to anyone who wants to have a foothold in Pompeii without too many pretensions.

From the noisy main street of Via Roma you pass through an archway into the calm oasis of the Hotel Pompei courtyard and garden. The rooms are well-appointed and the bar cool and peaceful. A great retreat after a hot dusty day visiting Pompeii.
