Palm Guest House Hostel

One of the managers/owners of this hostel, Halil, was rude and had a temper with several of the female guests here, myself included. He frequently came into the women's-only dorm without knocking to yell about dirty dishes in the kitchen, or to yell about the times people came in (no posted curfew). When I returned to the hostel early in the morning, he not only interrogated me about my whereabouts, but thoroughly examined my ID, AND complained about the time I entered the hostel (again, there is no posted curfew). He then entered the women's dorm for the SECOND time, stared at me in an extremely uncomfortable manner, then demanded I pack up my things and leave. My checkout time was to be later that afternoon, but he was annoyed with me and clearly had some grudge against me, as he began shouting and waking up the other women who were sleeping. I left without any further incident, as he seemed violent and unpredictable. Then, according to my friends who were not removed from the hostel, he harassed them at the front desk to ask if they were "friends of mine, " when they clearly showed no interest in speaking with him. The other staff we met were amazing, but after several calls back to clarify anything about this nonsense, Halil began shouting again, changing his story several times, and claiming to see these "on camera. " Even a cheap price of 40 NIS was not worth this irritating and horrendous experience.

BED BUG! We came directly to the hostel without reservation, and after a quick afternoon nap in my bed (room 30), I woke up right next to a bed bug! After looking into the bed I could find app. 3-4 bed bugs. The guy from the front desk was really nice with us, trying to found a solution to look into all our things to be sure we don't have on us and even accepted that we boil some clothes in the kitchen just to be sure! He told us that a guy from Asia was here a few weeks back and that he had bed bugs with him in the same bed, that they put mattresses to the trash and fix the room with some products but it looks like it didn't work. A few minutes later, the manager came to us and was really angry, tell us to leave with all our stuff now even if I was almost naked while boiling my clothes, and even try to put the blame on us to bring the bed bugs into the hostel (even if we had none before and no scratches too). Finally we just get out of the hostel ASAP and it was ok, but terrible experience. It's sad because the staff from the front desk was really nice to us, but not the manager…

The hostel has only a good location, right at the Damascus Gate, the rooms are tiny, dirty, with the furniture. I don't recommend it!

A great location for this friendly hostel, 2 minutes from Damascus gate to enter the old town. The hostel has also the advantage to be situated in a neighborhood where shops open on Saturday. Markets and street food, good local products and the magic of the cooking shows!

I hope you should consider this hostel before you stay in this room, because it will certainly be an unforgettable experience.
Although the price is relatively low in Jerusalem, the location is also excellent, but in addition to the above two points, its service, health and equipment management is not acceptable.
Service staff attitude and response rate is very poor, booking enquiry telephone and e-mail can not find people or delay reply. Check with the front desk man in addition to his poor attitude, more embarrassing is to move, pointing to the guest's nose called Shut up, vigorously close the door and intimidation asked guests to leave the hotel in real time.
Thought it was just a special example, but seeing him treat another two Arab girls with the same bad attitude during his stay would not give the guests the respect they deserve and feel so bad that we don't want to go back to the hotel every night to rest.
When we took the Journey documentary section in the dormitory where there was no one, he walked in and shouted and scolded, and it was strange that he would not allow filming, and it was even weirder why he could know what was going on in our dormitory. Health is very poor, bathroom is very small and smell, bathing flower sprinkler head is broken, even to squat on the ground with another outlet to wash the hair.

Friendly people, great reference guides! The beds are comfortable, the Wi-Fi is fast, and they go the extra mile to make sure anyone and everyone is happy and feeling at home. It is centrally located to many beautiful and historic sites in Jerusalem, would recommend to anyone staying from a day to even a week! There’s a great fruit market downstairs and some good shawarma places next to that, that is simply to die for! Wonderful place:)

In general, not a bad hostel. Near the old town, a couple of minutes' walk from the Damascus Gate. There was no socket in my room next to the bed. For each bed on an outlet, but not near, which is not convenient. I don't know how the other rooms are. I didn't find a way out to the roof, but there is still an access to the air, even with a grill. Gently, cleaned, tidy. So a solid 4-ka.

Very comfortable and hospitable staff.

Nearby, shops and food reception points. Dirty rooms, cockroaches running around. It's better not to talk to the kids at all.

Arabs here a lot of themselves allow, I would never come here again.

Horrible staff! The receptionist said himself, talking about the owner: « If we can of course we steal.!  It’s normal.!  » Plus it’s super dirty and completely molded! TO ABSOLUTELY AVOID! Hebron Youth Hostel is much better and a lot cheaper for example!

Education, kindness, human warmth all, return.

It's a pretty nice hostel, you can sleep comfortable for a night, but it smells a lot like a swimming pool and the toilets are not really clean.

Great value for the money and perfect location to visit old town or catch bus to border or other places. Cheap food on the street.

In front of the Damascus Gate… Super convenient to access the ancient city of Jerusalem.

Its a wonderful experience to find like minded people and share experiences. Decent rooms, heater in hall so need warm clothes. There are people from all over the world. The hummus next door is amazing!

The owners of the place cook and leave you the clothes with smell of food, there are no common spaces and the Baths pass wet.

Excellent cheap place to stay right across from the old city's Damascas Gate and short walk to Al-Aqsa Mosque. It's a small place but has a very positive vibe popular with Muslims and Christians having rich discussions on religion in the lobby and places to eat right outside. I stayed here while backpacking and it was exactly what I needed, nothing more nothing less… Economical place to sleep and shower without any extras.

Next door to Damascus, the location is great. In addition bus stops in front to go to Bethlehem, Ramallah… Easy to move also to Central Bus on the tram (next door). Good Pita Falafel A little above the street for 8 sekels, we appreciate rich and cheap food here. Croissants 3 Sekels next to the site of the Pitas (and Sahlab to 5 sekels delicious). Walk to Mea Sharim between 15-20 minutes and to the new zone in 25 more or less (or nothing by tram). To old Zone 3 minutes. Uncomfortable beds, but to take a sleep it's okay.

The location is really perfect, located directly at the Damascus Gate, so only a minute to walk up to the Old City of Jerusalem. It's easy and cheap accommodation, I don't need more than anything like that. You go out of the hostel and can immediately buy something to eat and eat it in the room without any problems. Unfortunately, there is not a single bar in the Muslim Quarter where you can have a beer, but you have to walk for 10 minutes.

The staff is polite courteous helpers, prices are affordable. The view of the hostel's terrace is extremely vivid.

-Great time at the Palm Hostel. 4 stars, 5 for the price+location. I stayed there in July 2017. -The owner is cool. Clean. Comfortable. -Interesting crowd of tourists and pilgrims. -No kitchen but there is an urn for coffee and tea. 100 meters from Damascus Gate. East Jerusalem-lite experience. -A minute or two to Jerusalem light rail and bus stops for Bethlehem, Ramallah, and all destinations East Jerusalem. ONLY COMPLAINT: If you are not used to the noise of a city at night might need to leave your window closed. It's not bad except perhaps if you want to sleep with a breeze.

They lie to you when you book… and leave you without qualification the first night.

The only advantage of the hotel is its location. Points to be improved: dormitories too small and not sufficiently equipped with storage spaces, sanitary fittings, and especially respect for customers whose Hotel does not take into account bookings made by e-mail!

That was the dirtiest and Versiffteste hostel I've ever seen. On the beds were still using handkerchiefs from the guests of the previous nights — not to mention what was under the mattress. The "shower" was an unusable, kloakiges hole next to the loo — it stinks everywhere after Gammeligen rags and the offer to draw free coffee or tea, you can't perceive, because 1. ) Except hot water none of it is available, 2. ) No cups or anything is available and 3. ) The water dispenser so filthy is that you are afraid to get even from boiled water herpes…
We left again after the first night.

The britsh lady I met there called it "The hostel from hell"! The owner is unfriendly, the bathrooms where filthy and the community areas a joke. Generally the hostel side received not much attention from the staff, unlike the hotel side. I cant really blame the born-again-christians and the snorrers on the hostel, but i'll do it anyway.

This place is a nightmare. Be aware of noise and bedbugs.

For the Russians-there is nothing to do! The service is bad, the Arabs hardly speak English. It's an old curve. It is not much more expensive and much nicer to settle in other hostels.

Booked the cheapest room, turned out to be without windows, under the roof and without air con, the owner offered to pay and change. As a result, each other was misunderstood and a conflict occurred. The owner changed the room for us at no extra charge.
The room has everything you need, but definitely it is not worth the money, even in Jerusalem in the old town can be found for a more affordable price, with dinner and much cleaner.

We really enjoy our stay in Palm hostel. The owner is very kind and helpful, everywhere it is clean and comfortable. Our room was well equipped with air conditioning, bathroom, good Wi-Fi and big comfortable bed. There is a nice terrace and hall for guests. Apart of all, hostel has an amazing location: just 2 min walk to Damascus gate, right opposite you have bus station to go to Bethlehem or Tel Aviv and also there are numerous shops, cafes with tea with meant and falafel in close neighbourhood.

Not liked at all… everything is NASE.

I like the Palm Hostel and it's the best one in Jerusalem for me, it's cheap, you can find stores for every food and salads you need — and there are cheap restaurants and food chains of Felafel and Shawarma there. I think that I found here many new European friends and I have a good single room here, as well as I have also comfortable place to sleep. It's cheap to sleep in this hostel — better than going to the Dorms of the Hebrew University and better to live single in the room near Mount Scopus and the Old City of Jerusalem — the David Tower as well.

The rooms are very small. The rooms are dirty. Periodically guests very, even at night.

The hotel is very well located. A lot of good will in the reception but rather awkward. A rough English.

This rating refers to the hostel and not the hotel. It is a 2 in 1 accommodation.
We travelled as a group, a total of 16 people. 12 of us in a room. Our first impression was sobering but somehow that should go with sleeping already.
But the hygienic conditions do not even meet the smallest demands. So the bed linen was changed after we had spent a night there and our group management had complained several times.
Under pillows were ties and leaflets, which were forgotten by previous guests there. There is also a communal kitchen which was very dirty to say the least. Worst of all, however, was the presumption that there are bed bugs, as this seems to be confirmed with the found reddish-brown small pile on several mattresses.
The only entertaining thing about this hostel are the other Google reviews which give an impressive picture.
The price is also positive, as we were part of a round trip there, it is not quite comprehensible for us, but it seems to be a very cheap hostel.
When staying at this hostel, it is advisable to stay at the Dead Sea to get rid of any parasites or simply to feel better.

The hostel is normal for its price. The staff is polite and the problems were solved. It would be strange to expect from a hostel a five star hotel. I personally liked almost everything. The main thing is that one could sleep, take a shower, and near Bazaar, where it was possible to drink wonderful coffee in the mornings and to dine inexpensive. The lack of windows in the room, where I only came to sleep-a separate plus, because I could not hear the noise from the street. Wi-Fi was good. A special thanks to the employee of the hostel, who literally took the hand and put on the right minibus (which is not very easy thing in the dark and in an unfamiliar place). So everything will be fine for those who are not in the loop on the super-duper services and appreciates the location, from where to all the hand to serve, that is for real tourists.

There's a hot water, Wi-Fi and a 10-bicycle parking. There's free tea and coffee. Shower was.

Don't stay in this place. I had been travelling around the world and this place is the worst I've been. I asked for a private room and it was the size of a closet. At night we can hear the rats inside the room… and we could see one rat in our luggage. The price is overrated, so I suggest to stay in any other place.

Good hostel! It is very close from the Damascus gate and the old city. It is also next to the arabic bus station and like 2 minutes by walk from the tram station. Room are okay but there is no air conditioning and the shower are a bit dirty.

Location is unique! In one block with the "alternative" Golgotha and directly opposite the Damascus Gate, where there is a direct road to the Wailing Wall.
On the way crossing via Dolorosa, you can walk on it to the Temple of the Holy Sepulchre.
The charm of this hotel is in the people you can meet here.
