Damar Toba

I love this place, with the hospitality of the staff. The food was good (we ordered the pizza tumbur) and various drinks. The views is beautiful. The toilet is clean & well-maintained. A very proper dining option for Balige area. We already finished the food then remembered to take photos 🤭

You can have a nice feel of danau Toba in this place. The venue's decoration is nice, warm and cozy, good for having meeting with your close friend, relative and family. The staff's hospitality is very nice and responsive, provide the guest who come there a good experience while having the services. In terms of food and baverage, it will be good to update with new item/ menu, and offcourse with affordable price to meet the balance, if possible.

This eatery was recommended to us. Menu was quite extensive and complete, there were local and western food, and a variety of drinks and dessert. This place also have a small hotel (6 rooms only), we checked the rooms and it looked pretty good. Might stay here the next time we go back to Balige.
The place is very big, with seating ranging from indoor are and outdoor area, close to the lake. The seating by the lake has a minimum order of Rp 220.000/pax before VAT. As for the ordinary seating I think min. Rp 50.000/pax.
Ambience wise it's amazing. It wasn't too crowded and I think it'd be better if we came here on the evening to enjoy coffee while watching the sunset.
The salmon I ordered was thicker than expected, and the garnish that came with it was amazing but they could do with more roast potatoes. Price is reasonable for the quality, variety and quantity of food they serve.
Overall would come here again.

Based on what Damar’s waiter demanded me to give my honest review specifically about the food and service of their restaurant. The waiter treated me and my family quite well even though we were expecting better or unique means of greeting. The food is quite moderate in terms of the taste, amount, and garnishment. I was expecting more fascinating ones considering the unusually higher prices on the menu. I would value the food better there if the taste of the food was rarely exquisite that you wouldn’t find it anywhere else. In short, the prices were over estimated. One of what we ordered was Mie Gomak. They shouldn’t have put very small lobster in it, instead the shrimps are better options for this cuisine since it’s easier to bite and to chew. I barely saw the noodles in the bowl, they put too much vegetables. The broth was not really tasty. Even the Kecombrang Fried Rice, my aunty said that she ate less meat and more chicken bones served on her dish. Hot water must be bought together with little mineral water which we didn’t desire in that way. For suggestion, Damar should consider how they could get more consumers with so-so prices rather than to charge them too much with very moderate products that they can only offer.

Lovely Hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. The rooms are simple but nice and clean. For the first time in a hotel we were provided USB-cable and chargers.
The best is thing is the location; right beside the lake. The restaurant is located on the beach and above the lake. The offered food is nicely decorated and delicious.
It's also close to the airport.
Next time we'll be back.

If you are looking for a nice quite hotel locates at the edge of Lake Toba this is the one. Not only it’s modern in design, but also high quality standard hotel overlooking Lake Toba. A touch of traditional ambience making it perfects for representing its North Sumatran culture in Balige. Perfect for private gateway for your family and friends. It doesn’t have too many rooms, very peaceful and quiet. Staffs are very friendly and attentive. Rooms were very clean and always smell fresh. The restaurant offers many different option for traditional and international foods. A bit slow for waiting time for our food orders but overall they are delicious. I hope one day I will be back there again.

I had an amazing dining experience at Damar Toba in Balige! The restaurant offers a stunning view of lakeside Toba, making it a beautiful spot to enjoy a meal. But what truly surprised me was the food and service—both were absolutely top-notch!
We ordered around 7-8 main courses of local Toba food, and each dish was incredibly delicious, packed with rich and luxurious spices. Every bite had a unique flavor that I had never experienced before. If you're looking to try authentic local cuisine, this place is a must-visit. Although it's on the pricier side, it's definitely worth it.
The service was equally impressive. The staff served us with a smile and were very quick and polite, providing excellent and responsive service.
If you're visiting Balige, you have to check out Damar Toba. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

Extremely good restaurant! Food is very interesting and incorporates local Batak flavours. The setting is quite luxurious. The staff is very friendly. Amazing ending of our vacation in Sumatra!
