We have stayed at many properties across Bali, but Soori sits in a category of its own. We wanted seclusion, good design, and a property that was serious about sustainability.
Our villa led straight to a volcanic black-sand beach, and the contrast between that dark shoreline and the Indian Ocean is something photographs simply cannot capture. We saw fishermen at work, locals carrying offering baskets over their heads towards a nearby shrine. It did not feel like a resort bubble at all. The surroundings feel so untouched, raw and elemental.
The kitchen grows its own herbs and the breakfast alone is worth the stay. Small portions, order what you want, no waste. One of our favourites was the locally made burrata made with Jawa cow's milk and house-made cold cuts from a heritage Balinese pig breed prepared by a French chef, truly some of the best things we ate on the trip. Ayu, Yani, and Budiari looked after us beautifully, attentive and warm without ever making us feel watched.
