I had a wonderful 5 night stay in this hotel in December 2019. The breakfast buffet is one of the best I have had, nice lychees martini cocktails and live classical music in the evenings. I was in the newer part of the hotel, a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the pool. In the older part of the hotel the rooms are not as pleasant. Lots of extra facilities and nice little sitting areas, there was some wonderful antique pieces of furniture and art. The staff were the best, so helpful and friendly. Thank you to you all, very much appreciated.

My fam like so much stay at this place comparing the new hotel around Ygy. Very nice place with old building, breakfast also very nice.

A place with great heritage and fantastic ambience. Feels like Raffles Hotel in Singapore but at much affordable prices!

Was desapointet for me. My room with out balcony, was an heritage room but no balcony.
On the check in I feel receptionist not very helpful, I bring my pun luggage.

Astonished building and well maintained amenities even though hotel are aged. Restaurant service was superb! After u finished your meal, their executive chef (I guess his name is Risman) was greet table by table and seek for comments and feedbacks, this was really impressed and the restaurant staff are really helpful and friendly. Overall : Restaurant : food are good especially breakfast and dinner. Staff are polite and very helpful. Reception : staff check in skill has to improve. This is due to the staff didn't ask for room preferences and arrange a twin bed room for a single traveller. Luckily a professional and helpful manager Mr Hardi able to rearrange me to double bed room in the next day. Room : well maintained, clean and comfortable. They even offer the turn down service during evening. Great! Environment : nostalgic and heritage kind of feel. Like u back in to past by time machine. I might revisit again for holidays as this time just for business. Hopefully next time I can fully utilize their hotel facilities.

Love the old javanese-dutch colonial vibes. The hotel is not that enormous, but is located in a very strategic place. Close to malioboro street and other tourist spots.

Loved the vibe and design of this hotel. The room was clean. The staff were helpful and polite. The location is superb; it is easy to get to major tourist spots.

Very special hotel, this is our third visit. Today our son became 18, and we were surprised by the whole kitchen staff bringing cake and singing for him. Much appreciated, thank you, Risman, for arranging this on such short notice. Apart from that, the service is amazing, could not wish for more. Food is delicious, rooms are luxurious and spotless. We (Edwin and Jori Heere and I) enjoy our stay here deeply. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is in for a great time, relaxing and enjoying friendly staff.

A vintage and classic-designed hotel in the city center of Yogyakarta! It was an old colonial building and already 100 years old. Clean, luxurious and cozy room. Service was excellent. They also provide the in house tour if you want to know the history about this historic building. They also have live music in the restaurant. When I was staying here, they were playing gamelan during the breakfast. So lovely!

The Phoenix hotel is a hotel with a style. The details of phoenix steel on the door, phoenix shape wood carving, the decorations of javanese culture really make the hotel has its own atmosphere. As the cultural heritage, Phoenix Hotel come again with luxurious feels after it being renovated. As the second time my stay here, the hospitality always the best.

Such a beautiful hotel located in the center of beautiful city. All staffs are helpful and the room is clean and comfortable with cold AC. There is bathtub in the nice bathroom. Try the nice spa and great food in their restaurant!

Everything is really nice here. The building is so beautiful and you can find the swimming pool inside surrounded by the great architecture of the colonial building. Do not forget to try their buffet dinner and enjoy the happy hour at the bar. All of the staffs are professional and really friendly! Recommended hotel!

Right in the down town … A few meters from Tugu, Jogja's most famous icon … Always giving unique experience inside … The building is cool … Its combined ethnic and western style … Nice small swimming pool … Homy service.

One of the most "heritage" feel hotels. The building has been around for a century (since 1918). The rooms are just okay but I kinda like the lounge (eventho it's so business-like) and the ambiance of the lobby. Location is very strategic since it is right in the heart if the city. If you are looking for a top notch-high tech facilities in room I don't recommend staying here tho, the one in here is fine but very standard 3-4 star-ish.

One of my favorite hotel at Yogyakarta. Located in the center of this city. And reachable with public transportation. The staff so helpfull and breakfast is great. Room is clean and all about javaness culture.

Love place, in a a quiet area amongst rice fields with a great view on Borobudur. Friendly staff and very nice villa"s. Excellent food. Only negative to mention is the loud calls for Muslim prayers during the day, including early morning ones.

Exquisite & lavish stay in Phoenix. It's so beautiful in every corner of the hotel. Staff hospitality is excellent. Meeting room service is amazing. Love the fitness center, swimming pool, welcome fruits surprise in the room & courtesy are exceptional. Love the breakfast selections while listening gamelan. Can't complain.

Surprisingly quiet hotel just beside a busy road. It's classic architecture completes it's serene environment. Combined with nice food and it's location near central of the city makes it worth considering.

Old hotel that preserved its heritage. I enjoyed the lobby and all their stories there. It has a quite big pool with great view. Food is okay, I enjoyed their “Jamu”. The lobby is quite dark in my opinion.

The staff welcomed us warmly and immediately with they gentle manners made us feel comfortable. They started to take care of us already from the welcome snack with traditional product. And special healty mix drink. Very good!

Colonial style but luxurios (everithings perfect like in a museum! ), very clean and elegant room, a large and comfortable bed with many pillows, (. And I love this! ), with all confort for example minibar (with strange but very tasty drink), kettle and a vast selection of local teas, coffees, snack.

Before dinner in "vino cafè" good aperitif with delicious wine, in a outdoor courtyard there is the beautiful restaurant called "Paprika" for all tastes, between buffet or a la carte, we have chosen buffet to try many different dishes. Well presented and the products are fresh and of a good quality. The atmosphere is magic. Soft light and tipycal music played with tipycal instruments (is perfect for enjoy the food) in breakfast time you can choose from a rich buffet with also javanese food and drink side.
The best place in Jogjokarta!. Hotel higly reccomended to spend a few days in relax, and visit the surronding area.

This hotel is special and historic. Magnificent. You can choose a lot of room style. The restaurant also serves traditional cuisine.

Comfortable accommodation in a colonial setting. Although we will not be offered a welcome drink the hotel offers a comfortable and quality stay. Their restaurant Paprika excellent quality on their dishes.

Sophisticate experience. A time machine to the past. Love it so much. The ambience, the staffs, the management. The pool access room is perfect. The breakfast offers lots of tasty local and International dishes. Muat try the city tour using their vintage 1961 Mercedez Benz. Great location. Walking distance from Tugu, Malioboro, museums, fort and many other attraction. Miss this hotel already.

Beautiful, but very dirty! And the staff very long leg us the head of the inhabitation. The food is good, breakfast is decent.

The Phoenix room has a unique smell that is only reserved for a one start hotel. If your room is facing the street they offer ear plugs. No use because you will feel like you are in NASCAR motor speedways. Towels, pillows, bed sheets need to be change they'er aging and see to many battles. Find somewhere that is more dated and the pricing that match.

It' a nice place to stay. It has a vibrant feeling of old time Indonesia. As if you are staying in high classes' home during Dutch occupation.

A dreamlike place to relax after experiencing the hustle and bustle of the city. Very nice rooms, great selection at the buffet, any wish is made possible. Absolutely recommended!
There is a small deduction for the aforementioned bed linen and the sometimes somewhat difficult waiters, who interrupt a "Dinner for two" again and again by frequent requests — some Germans would like to see a little more restraint.
My conclusion: Those who come here will leave satisfied with the desire to be able to return at some point.

Interior very good and also the service and breakfast could convince. However, at a 4/5 star hotel, the bed linen must not be dirty. Hence 1 star deduction.

Interior great, pool good to very good. The rooms were neatly equipped, point deduction was only available at the dirty bed covers. The breakfast was excellent and the check-in was super pleasant.

A beautiful hotel in this city, what a step to see the famous temples of Borobudur in terms of food. Well leave a little to be desired. For the hotel category.

Great hotel with lovely pool and good restaurant (special mention for breakfast). The service is at the top. Only downside: the travel agency whose benefits are quality but expensive compared to what you can find also.

A nice place to stay, with a well-maintained building and nice breakfast. The check-in with its welcome snacks is also a great addition. One thing to improve will be its carpark, which I found to be a bit small, just in case the hotel is full. Overall, one of the better places to stay in Yogyakarta.

Albeit our short stay, it's a step back in time, a real gem! Colonial atmosphere, beautifully decorated with Indonesian art crafts, uber friendly staff, and not to forget international restaurant serving Indonesian dishes, cozy bed room and meeting room. And oh, well-maintained gym, spa and sauna as well!

Very traditional looking building and rooms. The rooms are still quite comfortable, although the shower seems a little dated and it's not simple to control the temperature.

The place looks good but has a ton of problems like hot water issues, electrical set up problems, horrendous room service and staff who have no clue what's going on. The staff seem to be all over the place and keep proving conflicting information. I would suggest that you avoid the place.

Best experience in Jogja Hotels. Although last time I found the mattress springs was getting weak so the bed was not convenient anymore.

A colonial-era hotel. Feels just old rather than antique sometimes. They should upgrade the mattress etc. Everything also feels a bit dusty. The restaurant is pretty crappy so eat outside.

An excellent hotel! Even compared to international 5 star hotels it is definitely on par or better. Quality and prices at the restaurant are good as well and the breakfast selection is outstanding.

It's cozy places for staying and pleasure. A bit noisy but when they are an event in the ballroom but that's not a big deal.

This hotel is excellent. The staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is the best I've ever had — there is almost everything you can imagine to eat for breakfast here. The communal pool is lovely too — try and get one of the rooms that have balconies that overlook it. The rooms are delightful too. We had complimentary food and drinks in our room upon arrival. The room service food was great too — I can recommend the burger! If you stay in once place in Yogyakarta, make it here.

This amazing hotel with 144 elegant rooms and suites was built in 1918 by a rich Chinese merchant, Kwik Djoen Eng, for his private residence. After the war it was the official residence of the Chinese consulate and then become hotel in 1951. The hotel located right in the city, only 1 km from Tugu Station, 15 km from Yogyakarta International Airport also near Tugu monument. Free internet access is always great too :) The hotel looks very small from the outside but as soon as you pass the lobby and part of the restaurant, you will find that it isn’t as small as it looks. The hotel decor is very rich in culture, each part of this hotel is an art. Very charming. Breakfast in this hotel is enormous. Plenty of choices and very tasty, being a food lover this place is like heaven to me. They provided speciality regional food of Yogyakarta called Gudeg. Beside local foods Chinese Dim Sum are provided and many more. Because the location is so central, it is very easy to get around Yogyakarta city from this hotel. We liked to take pedicabs or as Indonesian call it becak to go around to places like Yogyakarta palace and Malioboro. The cost is about Rp. 30.000 or AUD $3.00 one way. The road is very busy, but you will get used to it :) I love this hotel and definitely recommend it to anyone. Happy stay, happy day :).
