During my stay in Yogyakarta, I booked a few nights at Hotel Merapi, located conveniently near the popular Malioboro Street. The hotel proved to be a practical and pleasant choice for budget-conscious travelers who wish to stay close to the heart of the city.
The location is undoubtedly the hotel’s greatest asset. It took me less than 10 minutes on foot to reach the bustling Malioboro shopping district, filled with street food stalls, batik shops, and local markets. Access to public transportation and tourist attractions like the Sultan’s Palace and Tugu Station was also extremely easy.
The room I stayed in was modest but clean and functional. It had basic amenities such as air conditioning, a private bathroom, free Wi-Fi, and a television. While the decor was simple and slightly outdated, everything was in working order. Housekeeping did a good job of keeping the room tidy during my stay.
The hotel provided a complimentary breakfast each morning, featuring a small selection of Indonesian dishes like fried rice, eggs, and local pastries. While not extravagant, it was a convenient and appreciated touch. The front desk staff were polite, responsive, and available 24 hours, which added to the overall comfort.
Although the hotel lacks luxury features such as a gym or pool, its affordability, cleanliness, and strategic location make it a smart option for short stays in Yogyakarta. I would recommend Hotel Merapi to travelers who prioritize location and practicality over luxury.
