I had high hopes for Linden Restaurant, especially as a local resident looking for quality dining options to bring visiting family and friends. Sadly, our experience was extremely disappointing and frustrating from start to finish.
I invited my family for a meal, a party of five, and expected a premium dining experience to match the setting of the Laska Hotel. Instead, what we received felt disorganised and poorly managed.
Service Issues:
• We were given two different menus by staff who didn’t realise the discrepancy until we pointed it out. One menu had more food options than the other.
• Several items on the menu were unavailable, including two dishes we initially ordered. No big deal, we reordered.
• Later, half of our revised order was also suddenly unavailable.
Drink Delays:
• We specifically requested that drinks be served first as we were thirsty.
• After two complaints, we finally got our water that took over 30 minutes just to receive, and more than an hour for a coffee, which arrived cold.
• A strawberry smoothie was substituted with a milkshake, without informing us.
Food Experience:
• Dishes were staggered inconsistently, and not in a logical order. For example:
• The first dish arrived after more than an hour.
• Mie goreng arrived 15 minutes later, missing shrimp that was listed on the menu.
• My pasta arrived cold after 1 hour 30 minutes.
• The chicken katsu came last, also cold, by which point we asked for takeaway and cancelled the final dish.
Billing Confusion:
• After requesting the bill, it still wasn’t prepared 10 minutes later, so I had to walk in myself.
• Staff were unaware that the chicken katsu was meant for takeaway, despite clear communication.
Laska Hotel is a beautiful property, but Linden Restaurant falls far below acceptable standards for a venue that charges premium prices. I have no issue paying for quality, but the service here was far below what you’d find at a modest local warung.
A lovely setting cannot make up for slow service, poor communication, and cold food. I truly hope the restaurant management takes this as constructive feedback to improve operations, because the potential is there.
