We arrived at nearly midnight and were delighted by how beautifully lit, airy and serene the hotel was. The staff that greeted us were welcoming and helpful.
Staff: All the staff we met with kind and helpful. I’d like to mention staff member Nike who was super helpful and spoke English well (which helped as my bahasa Indonesia isn’t great! ).
Rooms: We had connecting rooms (I think 5703 and 5705) and in our opinion, these rooms had the best views of the Safari — waking up to the giraffe, zebra and wild buck was so lovely. I note there are some rooms that have a different Safari view — one of the hippos, and possibly think and pelicans. However, we really liked our view. There was, unfortunately, a bad smell from one of the bathroom drains — we didn’t raise this with the hotel and so didn’t give them an opportunity to address it.
Breakfast & Dinner: There was a selection of Asian (chicken dish, fish fillet, veggies, rice, noodles), Indonesian speciality station (eg nasi jagung and its accompaniments like tempeh, tahu, egg dish) and Western breakfast items (sausages, egg station, potatoes, breads & pastries). Overall, we enjoyed the breakfast, especially the Asian/indonesia section. Pls note, flies was an issue. We brought our own tabletop fly fan which was very helpful. We had dinner at the restaurant and prices were very reasonable (between 60, 000 idr to 100, 000 idr for most of the main course meals we were interested in). I’d recommend the grilled oxtail!
Safari experience in the hotel: there were giraffes, zebra, deer, wild buck, hippos, a rhino, pelicans, ostrich and a few other animals about. Each day they gave us a small basket of carrots to feed the animals and it was lovely. We also signed up for the breakfast with giraffes, which was good fun. We didn’t eat much of the breakfast served but enjoyed feeding the giraffes. The staff there were super nice, accommodating and helpful. We also did the carnivore experience — we booked a private trip and thoroughly enjoyed feeding bears, tigers and lions. Seeing them up close was surreal. Again, our guide was so lovely and offered to take lots of great pics of us and the animals. The hotel can also directly book a private car to take you around the safari — this was a great way to get around and feed the animals there. They can stop off at certain points eg if you want to feed the elephants.
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay despite the minor issues mentioned above and would recommend it in a heartbeat!
Thank you to everyone at Baobab Safari Resort!
