Limited guest access to hotel facilities.
There has been a rather unsettling situation. During Ramadan, the hotel offers group dinners, mostly attended by outsiders who come with family and friends. On the one hand, this creates a somewhat noisy atmosphere, as every day more than 50 people would gather on the hotel terrace. Since the rooms are located facing the pool, this is honestly not the cozy environment one would expect from a hotel of this kind. That said, it is also a pleasant celebratory event.
The problem is that access to enjoying dinner on the terrace or watching the sunset by the pool is restricted for hotel guests, as the entire terrace is fully booked for Ramadan dinners. To my surprise, on the first night when I asked for dinner (and there was a free table on the terrace), the bar staff told me I could not dine there as that area was just for the propuse of the Ramadan dinner and would have to stay either in the reception area or in my room.
After a week of this dynamic (having to leave the hotel for sunset because it effectively turned into a restaurant every evening, leaving no space for guests), we decided to ask the hotel if there was any way we could join one of the buffet-style dinners—both respectfully and as a way to feel more included in an activity the hotel itself offers.
However, the system under which the buffet is organized is directly exclusionary for hotel guests, as it requires you to be part of a group of 10 people.

One of the hotels to stay in Karimunjawa. It is located slightly above in the hills, so you get to see the stunning views of the sunset and the sea from the communal area of the hotel. The hotel has a swimming pool as well. They have plenty of seatings, and also a mini playground for kids. The hotel is quite neat and the area is clean.
We stayed in the family villa, which consists of 2 bedrooms, with 2 bathrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. The room is actually the best part during our stay. It is very spacious, quite clean, and neatly arranged. The beds are quite comfortable as well. The bathrooms are quite clean. The towels are also clean, although one of the towels we had smell slightly bad. This room type is located directly in front of the views of the sea, so you get to enjoy the sunset directly from the patio of the room. As for the kitchen, it is quite spacious and they have plenty of utensils and equipments, although also noticed that some of the utensils are slightly stained. We also tried some of their foods, overall they have good quality. They also have a good breakfast, although it would also be better if they could add more variety to it.
As for the service, the staff here are friendly. The foods took quite a while for it to be prepared, and the service could be faster as well. But overall the staff are very communicative as well. Definitely a great place to stay in Karimunjawa.

Unfortunately we were disappointed with our stay here. Due to the really good reviews we decided to spend our Christmas here and we were really glad due to how stunning the island is however the hotel let us down slightly.
Not everything was bad, for example:
— The bed was comfortable.
— Most of the staff were welcoming.
— The pool area is lovely and kept quite clean.
— The view is stunning from the communal areas however if you’re on the bottom floor as we were (room 2) you don’t have much of a view however we didn’t mind.
— The breakfast and restaurant was good.
Unfortunately though when we arrived we realised the bathroom had not been cleaned properly, with there being marks on the mirror, and tiles near the sink and toilet. Also the toilet lid is a bit off putting due to the dark black/grey marks as shown in the picture. The shower area was aso stained with rust and the water was running brown and smelt of iron/metals. We did go and ask the staff member at the front desk about this and he said it was due to the rainy season and to maybe use bottled water instead to brush our teeth for hygiene. I can understand the run off into the water due to rainy season however that does not explain the rusty smell or solve the issue of us not being able to use the shower or tap to properly to wash our faces or brush our teeth. It’s quite an inconvenience to try and use a bottle of water for 5 days with no other solution.
Next the Wi-Fi also did not work in our room on our TV or phone.
