I stayed at Gardena for a week while I was diving with Diver's Paradise Komodo right next door. It's located on the main street (you need to climb up a few stairs), very close to harbour and many dive shops and restaurants. It feels quiet since their cottages are above the main street surrounded by trees and top cottages get beautiful view of the harbour. I stayed at a budget cottage with double bed, mosquito net, toilet and shower (no sink — just a bucket but it didn't bother me. ) It's very basic but clean and comfortable. Breakfast is ok, there's fried rice with cucumber salad, sometimes banana pancakes and fresh fruit — papaya or water melon, plus coffee and tea. They have Wi-Fi but it works best in the breakfast area. Stuff is very friendly and helpful and speaks good English. I had a really good stay here. Overall good value for money.
Only hotel in Labuan Bajo with last minute availability. The rooms near the top have a nice view but otherwise the lodging and the service are very basic which is probably reflected in the price (no pressure in shower, lights not working properly, very light breakfast…).

Be prepare to a lot of steps, I mean, a lot! Especially if you stay in standard room. But the view up there is spectacular. The room is very basic, no sink in the bathroom and no flushing toilet. No pressure and cold water for the shower. The breakfast in composed of rice, cucumber and tomatoes salad and japple (banana toasted sandwich wich seems to be common in indonesia). The staff is smiley and polite but they dont have a clue about what your asking (tours, transportation, etc. )
